YouTube's algorithm is incorrectly placing age restrictions on Balatro videos, apparently.
The issue was highlighted by a prominent YouTube channel, Balatro University, which has nearly 90,000 subscribers. Due to recent terms of service change enacted on March 19, YouTube now penalizes "depictions or promotions of online casino sites or apps" by age-restricting videos with those things in them. That makes a ton of sense, broadly speaking, but it's a little unreasonable for Balatro, which is essentially an arcade game that is vaguely tied to the rules and aesthetics of poker. There is no way to win or lose real money in Balatro.
SEE ALSO: Nintendo exec explains $80 price of 'Mario Kart World,' what it means for Switch 2 gamesIf you don't know, age restrictions are a bit of a nightmare for YouTube creators because it makes it a lot harder for videos to show up in users' algorithmic feeds. That's a big problem for anyone who makes money off of a YouTube channel, so ideally, this would never happen to content that doesn't deserve it, as it appears to have happened here. Balatro creator LocalThunk even weighed in on Bluesky, taking a jab at YouTube for restricting videos of his game while letting kids freely watch videos of loot boxes being opened in Counter-Strike.
If you haven't checked out Balatro, we named it one of the 10 best games of 2024. It's $15 and is available on any device that plays video games. Feel free to check it out, but don't blame us if it consumes your entire life for a while.
Get your first look at director Wes Anderson's upcoming film, The Phoenician Scheme.
The Academy Award winner behind Asteroid City and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar returns with a tale of international intrigue, family reunions, and nuns with knives. Benicio del Toro leads The Phoenician Scheme as Zsa-zsa Korda, one of the richest men in Europe (with a penchant for getting into plane crashes).
According to The Phoenician Scheme's first trailer, Zsa-zsa has nine sons and one daughter, a nun named Liesel (Mia Threapleton). In his first meeting with Liesl in six years, he informs her he's made her the sole heir to his estate, and that she may just come into all that money sooner rather than later.
"I have my reasons," Zsa-zsa tells a skeptical Liesl.
"Which are what?" she asks.
"My reasons? I'm not saying," Zsa-zsa counters. "I'm saying I'm not saying."
The trailer is full of such charmingly recursive dialogue, as well as other visual Anderson trademarks like painstaking symmetry, tracking shots, and intricately crafted sets. It also reveals Korda's master plan: Korda Land and Sea Phoenician Infrastructure Scheme, the most important project of Zsa-zsa's lifetime.
Zsa-zsa will face opposition from other industry heads, so he's bringing Liesl and their tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera) along on the journey to bring his plan to fruition. What follows promises to be a madcap tale of nightclub robberies, hand grenades, and Tom Hanks sinking three-point shots.
In addition to del Toro, Threapleton, and Cera, The Phoenician Scheme features a sprawling all-star cast, many of whom are returning Anderson players. They are: Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis.
The Phoenician Scheme hits theaters May 30.
Sometimes it's not the big twists or deaths that make a show great, but the quieter moments.
This was the case with The White Lotus Season 3 finale, which contains both a brutal full circle moment for Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) and a truly poignant speech about friendship.
The speech comes courtesy of Laurie (Carrie Coon), who opens up to her longtime friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Kate (Leslie Bibb) over dinner on their final night.
SEE ALSO: 'The White Lotus' Season 3 gave us a huge clue to the Ratliff's fate back in episode 1 What does Laurie say about friendship in the Season 3 finale? After a tumultuous week of differences, fallings out and apologies, Laurie, Kate and Jaclyn share a final meal together on their last night at the hotel. Kate and Jaclyn, both in a good mood, talk about how fun and meaningful they've found their week together. When it gets to Laurie's turn, though, she makes a speech that's equal parts honest, raw, and, ultimately, a very poignant insight into the power and complexity of longterm friendships.
Here's what Laurie says, in full:
"It's funny because if I'm being honest, all week I've just been so sad. I just feel like my expectations were too high, or...I just feel like, as you get older you have to justify your life, you know. And your choices. And when I'm with you guys it's just like...so transparent what my choices were. And my mistakes. I have no belief system, and I...well I mean I've had a lot of them, but...I mean work was my religion for forever, but I definitely lost my belief there. And then, and then I tried love, but that was just a painful religion that made everything worse. And then even for me, just like being a mother, that didn't save me either. But I had this epiphany today: I don't need religion or God to give my life meaning. Because time gives it meaning. We, we started this life together. I mean we're going through it apart but we're still together, and I, I look at you guys, and it feels meaningful. And I can't explain it, but even when we're sitting around the pool talking about whatever inane shit, it feels very fucking deep. I'm glad you have a beautiful face. And I'm glad that you have a beautiful life. And I'm just happy to be at the table."
The final shots of the three friends are of them having fun together on their final night, and then of them bonding on the boat as they leave the island together.
At least we got one happy ending.

As you may have heard, Nintendo showed off a bunch of Switch 2 stuff this week. As you may have also heard, not everyone is as hyped about it as you might expect because of pricing concerns.
For one, the console itself starts at $450...for now. On Friday morning, Nintendo announced that U.S. pre-orders for the console have been delayed indefinitely due to concerns over "tariffs and evolving market conditions." A price hike is not necessarily guaranteed, but it's certainly on the table. At the very least, though, $450 is not far off from what people expected from Switch 2's hardware. The more surprising problem is in game pricing, specifically with the flagship launch title, Mario Kart World, selling for a standalone price of $80.
We only just recently entered territory where some big-budget games retail for $70, and now Nintendo is trying to charge $80 for a non-deluxe edition of a game. I got to talk to Nintendo of America VP of Player & Product Experience Bill Trinen after the Switch 2 premiere, and, in a wide-ranging interview, he gave me some insight as to why Mario Kart costs as much as it does.
"Mario Kart is a tremendous, tremendous amount of content," Trinen said. "The way that world is so interconnected...I can literally drive across the continent. I'm sometimes racing through six different tracks on something like Knockout Tour, and racing in between them, and it's all seamless and interconnected."
SEE ALSO: Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on: First impressions of 'Mario Kart World' and 'Donkey Kong Bananza'Trinen also pointed out that there is a separate Nintendo Direct livestream for Mario Kart on April 17 at 9 a.m. ET that will shed more light on what is included in the game. Even if you accept the premise that there is $80 worth of content in the game (and there very well may be), it will still undoubtedly be a difficult pill to swallow for consumers who have been used to a $60 price point for Nintendo games for more than a decade. And while it's true that video game prices were often much higher than that in the 1990s, it also wasn't possible to dump 2,000 hours into Fortnite for free back then.
Another thing Trinen mentioned is that there is a $500 bundle of the Switch 2 console with Mario Kart World, which would amount to $30 in savings if the price holds. Perhaps the more significant concern is whether or not future first-party Nintendo Switch 2 games will cost $80. One piece of information I didn't have in front of me during the interview is that some of the upgraded "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions of older Switch games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, will also retail for $80 if you don't already own the Switch version. If you do, you must purchase a substantially cheaper "upgrade pack."
Having said that, the other flagship early Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong: Bananza, is a relatively more reasonable $70. According to Trinen, some titles being $80 is not necessarily a sign that many others will be, and Nintendo is taking it on a case-by-case basis. He also cited Tears of the Kingdom launching for $70, while subsequent Switch games stayed at $60.
"The approach that we take is we look at what the game is, what the content is, what the experience is, and then we say, 'What is the value of that?'" Trinen said. "On the flip side, we will see other games that might not be at the same price as Mario Kart."
Lastly, Trinen pointed out that some people might be more willing to fork over $80 once they get their hands on Mario Kart World, perhaps at one of the many public hands-on events Nintendo is holding globally in the coming months.
"The other thing is you have a lot of people that haven't been able to go hands-on with the games here today, so there's an initial reaction," Trinen said. "But what we're seeing is people who are...playing the games here today are coming away really impressed with the quality of the value offered there."
Again, we will see how true that is once these things are on store shelves — if that happens when it's supposed to happen on June 5, anyway.
There were a lot of dramatic endings in The White Lotus Season 3 finale, but one of the most impactful was also one of the most subtle.
Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), despite taking a bit risk in her negotiations with Greg (Jon Gries), finally manages to secure $5 million in exchange for her silence — and as soon as the money is in her account, she goes and has a difficult conversation with hotel worker Pornchai (Dom Hetrakul).
But what exactly does she say, and how does it link perfectly back to what happens between her and Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) in Season 1? Let's unpack.
SEE ALSO: 'The White Lotus' Season 3 gave us a huge clue to the Ratliff's fate back in episode 1 What happens between Belinda and Pornchai in the Season 3 finale?Earlier in Season 3, Belinda and Pornchai discuss the possibility of going into business together, and Belinda's sudden windfall makes that seem like it could be a possibility after all — until Belinda goes to see him to tell him she's getting out of town asap.
"Pornchai, I've really loved getting to know you," she says. "But, some things have changed for me and I'm going to be leaving Thailand tomorrow."
"Leaving tomorrow?" responds a crestfallen Pornchai. "What about starting a business? You, me."
"Maybe. But circumstances have changed for me, and I just can't commit to anything right now," Belinda says. "I'm so sorry."
Credit: Fabio Lovino/HBOBelinda wants to leave Thailand to get as far away from Greg as possible, but her interaction with Pornchai is also a full circle moment: It's almost the exact same exchange that she has with Tanya in Season 1, back when she's on the receiving end of someone abruptly changing their mind.
What does Tanya say to Belinda in Season 1?Back in Season 1, Tanya comes close to funding Belinda's business dreams until she meets and falls for Greg. Once that happens she goes to the spa to visit Belinda, and has an "it's not you it's me" conversation with her that feels very familiar.
"Anyway, about the business," says Tanya. "I really need to think about it. I mean, you're so talented and I so want to do this for you, but I'm realising I'm getting back into this pattern again, where I latch on to somebody and then I use my money to control them. And see, right now, the last thing I need in my life is another transactional relationship. You know, it's just...it's not healthy. For me."
The look on Belinda's face is horribly similar to the look on Pornchai's face after she breaks the news to him in the Season 3 finale. Although her character has different motivations to those of Tanya, it's a brutal full circle moment that says a lot about the power money holds over us and those around us.

Best performing Radeon RX 9070 XT PC: As of April 7, this custom MainGear RUSH PC is available for $3,425. It’s equipped with an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 32GB of RAM, and a panoramic Mk. IV chassis that’s almost too clean to touch.
Opens in a new window Credit: MainGear MainGear RUSH Radeon RX 9070 XT $3,425 at MainGearI didn’t need a custom PC built around AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. But I wanted it. And not just any build — I wanted a showpiece. Something that made me stop mid-game, look over, and think, “Damn, that’s mine.” So I built it with MainGear.
This RUSH configuration cost me $3,425, and I regret nothing. Built inside the RUSH Mk. IV case with a full panoramic glass wrap, it’s basically the architectural digest version of a gaming rig. You can see everything — no cables awkwardly draped, no zip-tie abominations. Just clean lines, diffused RGB lighting, and enough power to incinerate frame drops.
SEE ALSO: Apple announces WWDC 2025 datesAt the heart of it is the new AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, which I think might be the best high-end GPU for folks who want ridiculous visual fidelity without NVIDIA tax. Paired with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 32GB of T-Force Delta RGB RAM, this setup is futureproof in a way that lets me sleep at night—well, after the RGB lights stop pulsing like a synthwave nightclub.
The SSD is a 4TB WD_Black SN850X, which means I don’t have to play the “which game do I uninstall this week” dance. Everything is fast. Everything is fluid. And yes, the whole thing is powered by a beefy 850W MSI PSU and kept chill with a MAINGEAR Epic 360 AiO cooler.

I didn’t pick every premium add-on either. No extra storage drives, no PCIe extras — but that’s kind of the point. This is my build. I wanted elegance, power, and quiet confidence, not RGB overload and power-supply flexing for no reason.
MainGear’s build quality is just on another level. No bloatware, tuned BIOS and a USB stick with helpful files in case I ever need to do a fresh install. I didn’t just get a box of parts — I got a system someone actually cared about while building. That’s worth more than a few bucks in my book.
Got a pile of old phones and tablets collecting dust in a drawer? Planning to upgrade to the new iPhone and need to get rid of the old one? Good news: You can turn them into a tree.
AT&T and insurance company Assurant are teaming up to support the Arbor Day Foundation’s forest restoration program, assisting areas hit by the devastating California wildfire season. During the month of April, for every device turned in through AT&T's online and in-person trade-in program, a tree will be planted in the Placerville Nursery for California Wildfire Reforestation, the only forest service nursery in the state. The companies will be planting 75,000 new trees by the end of the month.
"AT&T has been connecting Californians for 145 years, and we are committed to helping our communities as we rebuild together – which is why this year’s Tree for Trade-In initiative with the Arbor Day Foundation and Assurant was especially important," Roman Smith, AT&T’s director of global environmental sustainability, told Mashable.
SEE ALSO: How 'cozy gaming' is taking mindfulness mainstreamThe program adds to AT&T's disaster response initiatives in the wake of southern California's wildfire outbreak. Teaming up with first responders and local organizations to keep people connected on the ground, AT&T provided public WiFi and charging stations at designated evacuation zones and deployed its Mobile Connectivity Center (MCC) to provide Malibu residents with free Wi-Fi, device charging, and computers. The company also provided credits to customers in impacted areas and donated $2 million to relief efforts, Smith explained, mobilizing "one of the industry’s largest disaster response programs to provide additional connectivity support during the fires."
As the climate warms, wildfires and other weather phenomena are intensifying — just two degrees of warming has led to historic, unseasonable periods of burn, caused by dried out vegetation.
Global e-waste, meanwhile, poses a different, but related, set of problems. Millions of devices are traded in to telecommunications giants each year. Millions more are simply discarded or thrown away — over the last few decades, it's become the fastest growing solid waste stream facing the planet. Complicating the matter: the questionable efficacy of electronic recycling programs and the finite nature of the important metals used in electronic batteries. Sustainability advocates, trying to reconcile the e-waste problem, and electronic companies, investing more in a circular economy, find common ground with device trade-in and recycling programs.
"We’re proud to join with AT&T for nearly 15 years to help realize their sustainability objectives through circularity. It’s a collaboration that has created a measurable impact in reducing carbon emissions and electronic waste,” said Biju Nair, EVP and president of Assurant Global Connected Living.
In 2024, AT&T ran a similar trade-in program, planting more than 50,000 trees across forests in Oregon and Florida. "This Earth Month," said Charlene Lake, AT&T chief sustainability officer and senior vice president of corporate responsibility, "our Tree for Trade-In initiative with the Arbor Day Foundation and Assurant symbolizes the power of collective action, as each returned device helps plant a tree, fostering renewal for communities affected by the California wildfires."
BEST PERFORMING RTX 5090 PC: As of April 7, MainGear MG-1 Ultimate (Intel) is available for $5,649. A top-tier gaming PC with an RTX 5090, Intel Core Ultra 285K, and zero bloatware.
Opens in a new window Credit: MainGear MainGear MG-1 Ultimate (RTX 5090) $5,649 at MainGearAt $5,649, MG-1 Ultimate isn’t the kind of PC you casually “add to cart.” It’s the kind of machine you daydream about while pretending to care about whatever someone just said on your Zoom call. This thing is a full-blown performance warlock in a tasteful RGB robe—and I’m seriously tempted.
I’ve built my own gaming PCs. I’ve spent hours squeezing cables into cases not meant for human hands. So when I look at this build and see that MainGear has not only routed every cable perfectly, but also thrown in custom GPU supports and magnetic faceplates like it’s no big deal, I get a little emotional. The MG-1 Ultimate isn’t a pre-built—it’s an ego-safe flex.
SEE ALSO: Apple announces WWDC 2025 datesUnder the hood, you’re getting an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, paired with Intel’s brand-new Core Ultra 285K. That’s an unholy alliance of power and efficiency that should laugh in the face of 4K gaming, modded hellscapes, and literal game development pipelines. The default loadout gives you 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB Gen4 SSD, but if you want to double those for even more absurdity, go ahead and hit the “Boost” button. At this price point, you’ve already passed the point of restraint.

Cooling? Covered by MainGear’s Epic 360 AiO with a disco of RGB fans. Power? A 1200W Platinum-rated PSU. Connectivity? Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and enough USB ports to connect your entire peripheral museum. And the OS is bloatware-free, with BIOS settings tuned out of the box for maximum performance. No post-setup headaches, just pure gaming indulgence.
In my opinion, this is for the gamer who wants to skip the endless compatibility spreadsheets and jump straight to bragging rights. If the MG-1 Platinum is MainGear showing off its polish, the Ultimate is it firing on all cylinders. It’s excessive. It’s glorious. And it might just be my next terrible financial decision.
"We're gonna win so much, you may even get tired of wining," said Donald Trump at one of his pre-election speeches. A couple of months later, it doesn't really feel like winning.
After two devastatingly tough days for the U.S. stocks and cryptocurrencies, with the S&P 500 dumping more than 10 percent over Thursday and Friday, many market participants were likely hoping for some relief on Monday. However, major indices are down hard once again in premarket trading, with S&P 500 diving below 5000 for the first time since April 2024.
Big tech stocks are having a particularly bad day so far, with Apple down to $180 per share in premarket trading, Nvidia at $89.4 per share, and Tesla at $222 per share. For Tesla alone, whose stock price reach an all-time-high of $489 per share in December 2024, this is a 55 percent decline.
Cryptocurencies aren't having a great day, either, with Bitcoin trading at $76,130, and Ethereum trading at $1486 at writing time. It's worth remembering that Bitcoin was trading above $109,000, and Ethereum above $4,100, just four months ago.
The culprit is obvious: The tariffs that the Trump's administration imposed on nearly ever trading partner (and some penguins) were far more radical than the market expected, with basically the entire world being suddenly thrown into a potentially devastating trade war. In just one example, there are already calculations that Apple might increase iPhone prices by up to 43%, with the cheapest iPhone 16 going from $799 to $1,142.
SEE ALSO: Trump's China tariffs reportedly tanked the TikTok dealOf course, no one knows exactly what will happen due to potential deals being brokered between the U.S. and its trading partners, but therein lies the rub: The markets don't like uncertainty, and the current situation is as uncertain as can be.
It's not just Wall Street that's unhappy with Trump's idea of fixing America. In a Saturday rally in Washington, DC and other U.S. cities, thousands gathered to protest some of the moves the Trump administration has made so far.
BEST VALUE RTX 5070 PC: As of April 7, MainGear MG-1 Platinum (AMD) gaming PC is available for $1,999 at MainGear. That includes an RTX 5070 GPU, Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and clean-as-a-whistle cable work that puts DIY builds to shame.
Opens in a new window Credit: MainGear MainGear MG-1 Platinum (RTX 5070) $1,999 at MainGearA good pre-built gaming PC should make you feel like someone else did all the hard work and had the decency to do it properly. That’s exactly what I think MainGear nails with the MG-1 Platinum. It’s not just a case of stuffing parts into a box and calling it a day. This is a rig where someone actually gave a damn.
At $1,999, it comes loaded with an RTX 5070 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D —two parts I’d pick myself if I were building from scratch. You get 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a speedy 1TB Gen4 SSD out of the gate, but the "Boost" button lets you double both and flip to Windows 11 Pro, just in case you want to feel fancy. Personally, I think the base spec is already strong enough for 1440p ultra gaming without breaking a sweat.
SEE ALSO: Apple announces WWDC 2025 datesBut what really sells me on it is the sheer polish. I’ve had an MG-1 for over a year, and I’ve been through a fan controller swap and some upgrade tinkering. Every time, their support was clear, human, and helpful. Diagrams, instructions, no attitude — just actual customer service like it’s the 2000s again. And I’ve never once opened the case and thought “Who routed this like that?” It’s clean, it’s careful, and yeah, the RGB is tasteful. You can even swap the magnetic front panel to match your mood or game of the week. It’s little stuff like that that makes this feel like it was made for gamers, not just marketed to us.

There’s no bloatware. The BIOS is tuned for your config. Extra cables are neatly bundled. You get a USB stick with tools for fresh installs. It’s the PC you think you’ll build yourself, but somehow better. In my opinion, this is one of the few pre-builts that’s worth the price without caveats. It’s custom without the chaos — and that’s rare.
The White Lotus Season 3 characters have all been on such intense journeys, that sometimes it's easy to forget none of this happened by accident. The signs were there for a while, in some cases from the very first episode.
Case in point? The Ratliff family and the poisonous fruit of the pong-pong tree, which plays an (almost) devastating role in the series' finale. The thing is, though, the so-called "suicide tree" didn't come out of nowhere. The clue was there in episode 1.
SEE ALSO: 'The White Lotus' Season 3 ending explained: Who died? What happens in The White Lotus Season 3, episode 1?Shortly after we're first introduced to the Ratliffs, hotel worker and "health butler" Pam (Morgana O'Reilly) gives them a tour of their villa. A bored Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), irritated at the hotel ban on phones in public spaces, wanders off and picks up a green piece of fruit from the ground.
"What am I supposed to do here all week without my phone?" he pouts. "Eat a bunch of fruit?"
"We do have a lot of amazing fruit here, but I wouldn't eat that," responds Pam. "That is the fruit of the mighty pong-pong tree, and the seeds of the fruit are toxic."
"Yeah? Could it kill you?"
"Yeah it could, actually. It's very poisonous."
The fruit doesn't come up again until the finale, but it's a great example of showrunner Mike White giving us a very early hint to the conclusion of the Ratliff family's arc.
The other hint at the future, that comes when they're deciding who's going to share a room with who? Saxon saying that Lochlan (Sam Nivola) can't share with his sister Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) because "that'd be weird." Oh dear.
