Mashable's RJ Andersen appreciated this tablet for its "impressive 12.4-inch LCD display" and called it a "well-made, beautiful tablet that's even dust- and water-resistant." It boasts a 20-hour battery life, an S Pen included in the package, and it's great for just about any purpose you want to assign it, whether that's taking notes, checking out your favorite shows and movies, or getting some work done on the go.

Andersen appreciated how "natural" the S Pen felt in comparison to using an Apple Pencil, as well as its powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip that made it appropriately zippy. Way back in Aug. 2020, music superstar Billie Eilish performed a two-song set for NPR's Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series. Mozilla has removed the "Do Not Track" option from Firefox, but it's not because the company has abruptly abandoned all of its privacy principles. The setting was practically useless.

According to Windows Report which first spotted the change, Firefox browser settings with the latest Version 135 no longer have the ability to send websites a Do Not Track request. Instead there's a note saying Firefox no longer supports the option. Mozilla explained the change on the feature's help center page, saying "many sites do not respect this indication of a person's privacy preferences, and, in some cases, it can reduce privacy."

But this doesn't mean Firefox users are suddenly exposed to tracking from websites and third parties. Instead, Mozilla recommends an alternative signal called Global Privacy Control. GPC is an initiative founded by privacy-minded browsers including Mozilla, Brave, DuckDuckGo, and organizations like the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "GPC is respected by increasing numbers of sites and enforced with legislation in some regions," said the help center page. In some jurisdictions like California with the CCPA act, data privacy rights are legally protected.

In place of the Do Not Track setting with the latest version of Firefox, users can select the option that says, "Tell websites not to sell or share my data." This setting will turn on the GPC signal.

Folks who made unwanted purchases in Fortnite can still cash in.

Epic Games reached a $520 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over allegations that parents, gamers, and others were tricked into making purchases. Around half of that sum, $245 million, was set aside to refund customers affected by the in-game purchase allegations.

The deadline for applying for a settlement, however, is quickly approaching. You have to file by Jan. 10, 2025, which you can do on the FTC's website.

There are some stipulations to getting a refund. The FTC said, in a statement, that you could apply for a refund if any of these things are true:

• You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022

• Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018

• Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges

You have to be at least 18 years old to file a refund claim. You can file that claim at www.fortniterefund.com/file-a-claim. To make the claim, you'll need a claim number or your Epic Account ID. Those who have a claim number should've received an email with the information. Again, the deadline to file a claim is Jan. 10, 2025.

The FTC said in a statement this month that it was sending out 629,344 payments totaling more than $72 million to folks who filed a valid claim by Oct. 8, 2024. The FTC is still reviewing claims made after Oct. 8 and onward.

The FTC had alleged that Epic Games made it easy for users to make unexpected charges, including by letting underage players rack up in-game purchases.

The ACLU is sounding the alarm on the nation's police forces increasingly leaning on artificial intelligence.

In a six-page white paper released Dec. 10, the nation's largest civil rights group warns that the implementation of popular generative AI tech, like chatbots and drafting tools, is an overstep of technological advancement and poses a threat to American civil liberties.

The organization specifically singles out the use of Draft One, a controversial generative AI tool that assists police officers in drafting reports based on body cam audio and relies on OpenAI's GPT-4 model. Several police departments around the nation have gradually tested AI tools over the last year, including Draft One. That number is on the rise, with cities around the U.S. pitching generative AI features as a solution to budget and staffing constraints.

Experts have criticized the implementation of this tech, citing the essential role police reports play across judicial decision making, from investigation and discovery to sentencing.

"The forcing function of writing out a justification, and then swearing to its truth, and publicizing that record to other legal professionals (prosecutors/judges) is a check on police power," wrote law expert Andrew Guthrie Ferguson in one of the first law reviews of AI-drafted police reports. The ACLU outlines four major areas of concern in its white paper, including the necessary accountability process of human-written reports Ferguson describes. In its analysis, the organization emphasizes the uncertainty stoked by biases and hallucinations inherent to the tech itself, and questions the transparency of these processes to the public at large — not to mention its data privacy implications. According to the organization, relying more on the interpretation of generative AI tools than human memory and a police officer's subjective observations is to the detriment of a fair judicial process.

If AI is the next frontier for police officers, the ACLU urges, it should be used only after human memory has been recorded. AI tools could transcribe audio-recorded verbal narratives created by the officers involved, the organization explains, which could be submitted in tandem for review.

But, contrary to the recommendations of civil rights groups, AI's leaders are steadily investing in police and military applications of their technology.

"Police reports play a crucial role in our justice system. They are central to the criminal proceedings that determine people’s innocence, guilt, and punishment, and are often the only official account of what took place during a particular incident," the ACLU writes. "AI report-writing technology removes important human elements from police procedures and is too new, too untested, too unreliable, too opaque, and too biased to be inserted into our criminal justice system."

According to 9to5Mac, watchOS 11.2 hit the streets this week, and it can be downloaded by anyone with a modern Apple Watch now. Another splashy superhero movie is hitting theaters, and with it, parents less versed in comic books might well be wondering if it's age-appropriate for their kids. Or hey, maybe your kids are a bit older, and can handle some more mature content? I'm not here to make that call for you. After all, you know your kids better than I, random internet film critic.

I'm just here to let you know what's in store in Kraven The Hunter, with the lightest spoilers possible.

The latest in Sony Pictures Spider-Man spinoffs, Kraven The Hunter, is rated R.

For context, other R-rated superhero movies include Logan, Kick-Ass, Watchmen, Punisher: War Zone, and all the Deadpools 1-3, including Deadpool and Wolverine.

How violent is Kraven the Hunter?

Well, remember how the red-band trailer showed the titular anti-hero biting the nose off a guy and spitting it at another? That gives a good sense.

The violence in Kraven is often brutal, inventive, and bloody, employing hand-to-hand combat, a tiger tooth as a killing tool, and an array of very gruesome booby traps, including a bear trap to the face. Notably, director J.C. Chandor rarely lingers on the gore. But it's definitely a bloodier film than the Dark Knight trilogy.

Nothing notable.

While the movie centers on a murderous vigilante who plays by his own rules, Kraven as a character is very chaste. His relationship with lawyer Calypso (Adriana DeBose) is friendly, but only very, very vaguely romantic.

While the film is absent of sex, it has sex appeal. Kraven is a big fan of popping his top off, displaying his rippling abs. And the cinematography recurringly leers at the actor's brawny bod.

By my count, three uses of the F-word, including Calypso dropping a mother— you get the idea. Otherwise, the characters swear casually. But for a movie that involves a lot of gangsters, there are way less F-bombs than the average Martin Scorsese movie.

This Spider-Man spinoff is a gleefully violent and pretty gory action movie, involving a vigilante who takes justice into his own hands to kill bad guys. Along the way, drugs will be mentioned — as he battles a pair of nefarious drug kingpins. But most of the horrid crimes of his prey are kept offscreen, save for some poachers cruelly chopping the horns off slaughtered wildebeests.

Kraven the Hunter opens only in theaters Dec. 13.

Porn site Clips4Sale is back with its annual fetish of the year. Pegging ruled in 2023, and giantess stomped on 2024 — but what about 2025?

Chastity — the denial of pleasure — is growing in popularity, so much so that Clips4Sale can't keep it under lock and key.

"The past twelve months have been full of contradictions when it comes to sex and pleasure," Clips4Sale's blog states. "And from wellness influencers obsessed over semen retention to calls for a global sex strike, a fetish that mines an erotic charge through the renunciation of sexual release seems perfectly fitting." The site refers to several online trends here, both "no fap" (no masturbating, for supposed physical and mental benefits) and the newly-Western interest in the 4B movement (which calls for women to not have relationships, sex, marriage, or children with men).

Along with these trends comes real fears for Project 2025, a far-right wishlist for Trump in his second term. Project 2025 calls for banning porn and threatens abortion access — two outwardly unsexy measures. Perhaps it makes sense, then, that forced abstinence is the fetish du jour.

The core of the fetish, Clips4Sale states, is orgasm denial. Anyone of any gender can participate, and doesn't require a locked cage, but that's certainly a bonus. Chastity play can last for hours or longer, like a whole "locktober." On Clips4Sale the term has grown 193 percent since 2020, and 71 percent this year alone.

Runners-up for the fetish of the year are gooning, or masturbating and edging for hours, and cuckolding, usually a man watching his wife have sex with another man. The latter was named one of Clips4Sale's 10 fetishes that defined the last 20 years — but in 2025, porn viewers will lock it up.

The Critics Choice Award nominations have been announced, and several much-talked-about movies have gotten a slew of nods. But there's also some astonishing commissions.*

Both the humanely hilarious Anora and the polarizing body-horror offering The Substance scored seven nominations. The universally praised drama The Brutalist received nine nominations, while the controversial musical Emilia Pérez and the epic Dune: Part Two earned 10. And tied for most nominations at 11 is the box office smash that is Wicked and the sensational (and slyly funny) thriller Conclave.

Notable snubs include Babygirl, Halina Reijn's torrid thriller that won Nicole Kidman the Volpi Cup out of the Venice International Film Festival, Problemista, Julio Torres' critically heralded comedy about the red tape of immigrating to America, and Love Lies Bleeding, Rose Glass' harrowing and gnarly thriller.

It's that time of year again, folks. The Game Awards are upon us.

Geoff Keighley's hybrid awards show and announcement livestream is back in its usual mid-December slot. As always, it'll be a celebration of the best games of 2024 for part of its runtime, and a series of trailers for both known quantities and big surprises for the bulk of its runtime. Some of 2024's heaviest hitters like Astro Bot, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Black Myth: Wukong are up for the big Game of the Year award, so you'll want to tune in to see who gets the big prize.
