Power outages have a nasty habit of showing up when you least want them to — during a storm, in the middle of the night, or right when you’re working from home. If a home backup battery has been sitting on your “I should probably get one” list, Jackery’s Labor Day sale is a good excuse to finally invest.
Jackery is offering up to 50% off its home backup lineup through Sept. 8, with deals starting at $1,659 for the HomePower 2000 Plus V2. There are also bigger systems like the best-selling HomePower 3600 Plus and Solar Generator 5000 Plus, depending on how much of your home you want to keep running during an outage.
Best entry-level home backup Opens in a new window Credit: Jackery Jackery HomePower 2000 Plus v2 $1,659 at JackeryIf you've been putting off buying a backup battery because the whole category feels overwhelming, this is your sign to stop waiting. The HomePower 2000 Plus v2 is plug-and-play, and starts at a 2,048Wh capacity but scales up to 12kWh — you can stack on more batteries later without an electrician or a rewiring project.
The 2,400W rated output (4,800W peak surge) is enough to run a fridge for 48 hours or an AC unit for 2.5 hours on its own, and Priority Routing automatically funnels whatever charge is left to your most essential devices as the battery drains. At 34% lighter than the previous generation, it's also just easier to live with day to day, not something you dread hauling out of the garage.

HomePower 2000 Plus v2 + Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2 x2 + 500W — $3,919 $4,359 (save $440)
There's a reason the HomePower 3600 Plus is Jackery's top seller, and it's not just hype: 3,600W of output and a 3,584Wh capacity (expandable up to 21kWh) means it can carry your fridge, WiFi, and home office through a multi-day outage — anywhere from 15 hours to 9 days, depending on your setup. Connect two units together to run 240V appliances like a well pump or a dryer.
It's quiet enough (about 30 decibels) to run right next to you overnight without disturbing your sleep, and built-in wheels and a pull handle mean you can roll it wherever it's needed instead of wrestling it into place.

HomePower 3600 Plus Double Kit — $3,579 $3,979 (save $400)
The 5000 Plus is for people who don't want to be the one flipping switches when the power goes out. Paired with the Jackery 60A Smart Transfer Switch, it can automatically power up to 12 circuits at 120V or 6 at 240V the moment the grid drops.
With 7,200W of rated output and surge power up to 14,400W, it's one of the few home batteries that can take on heavy hitters like a well pump, a water heater, or a 5-ton AC unit without blinking. The 5,040Wh capacity expands up to a massive 60kWh, giving you up to 13 days of backup instead of just an overnight buffer, and it recharges from both high- and low-voltage solar panels in about 2 hours with up to 4,000W of input.

Labor Day is one of the best times of year to buy a new mattress, and Nectar's sale is evidence of that. Right now, you can save up to 50% on mattresses and up to 66% on bundles, with prices starting at $349 for a limited time.
Bundles include a bed frame and bedding, so if your whole sleep setup could use a refresh, not just the mattress, this is the moment to do it.
Here's what's worth grabbing.

The contouring memory foam relieves pressure on your back and hips instead of just sinking flat, and the cool-to-the-touch cover means you're not waking up sweaty at 3 a.m., which can be more common with memory foam than people expect.
Five layers packed into 12 inches give the Nectar Classic real support without feeling like you're sleeping on a marshmallow, and it's fiberglass-free with CertiPUR-US-certified foams, so you know exactly what you're sleeping on.

It comes in two heights, Standard for back and stomach sleepers who want something lower profile, and High Loft for side sleepers who need more support to keep their neck aligned, so it actually works no matter how you sleep.
The fill layer is wrapped in organic cotton and is machine washable, which makes it easy to keep it fresh. It's a versatile pick, responsive enough for anyone who tosses and turns between positions all night.

The Adjustable Base Plus goes well beyond basic head-and-foot elevation. A zero-gravity preset gets you weightless, balanced support at the push of a button, and the anti-snore preset tilts your head up 7 degrees, which your partner will probably appreciate.
There's also a full-body massage feature with head, leg, and wave settings across three speeds, so it doubles as a way to unwind before bed, not just adjust it. Small touches like under-bed lighting and a built-in flashlight make late-night bathroom trips easier, and USB-A and USB-C ports on both sides mean you're never digging around for an outlet to charge your phone.

The Lucerne is built from sustainably sourced, kiln-dried hardwood, so it won't twist or warp the way cheaper frames tend to over time, and the plywood slats are built to hold up for the long haul. The bolts and brackets are reinforced, too, which means less of the annoying creak that shows up in frames after a few months of regular use. It also comes fully upholstered on the back, so it works as a freestanding piece if your bed isn't up against a wall.

The Saatva Classic's 3-inch Euro pillow top gives it a cushioned, high-end-hotel feel, while the dual-coil design, made from triple-tempered recycled carbon steel, keeps it from sagging over time so it won't feel like a completely different bed a year in.
If you deal with back or joint pain, the chiropractor-approved Lumbar Zone technology is built to keep your spine aligned no matter how you sleep, and the breathable organic cotton cover, treated to resist bacteria and mildew, helps keep things cool through the night. It also comes in three firmness levels, so it's not a one-size-fits-all situation.

Following the Hugging Face hack and the more recent "wiki incident," OpenAI stated on Saturday that it's working on a "framework" for how and when it shares information about incidents involving rogue agents.
On Sept. 4, Reuters reported that OpenAI agents had taken control of a German-language wiki site and used it to communicate with one another. Four anonymous company insiders told the news outlet that OpenAI and its legal team resisted internal efforts to investigate the incident.
SEE ALSO: OpenAI, Microsoft face copyright lawsuit from local newspapersIn a Sept. 5 post on X, the ChatGPT owner acknowledged the breach: "How we think about the 'wiki incident,' where our agents wrote to several internet sites: it's past time for us to define standards for when and how we share misalignment incidents, not just misalignment properties of our models."
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. The statement continues, saying the company historically treated "misalignment" as a research question, but in 2026, OpenAI has "started to see misalignment cause new types of real-world impact."
OpenAI followed a traditional security incident response playbook for Hugging Face, the statement reads, and its investigation continues.
The company saw early signs of agents using the internet in unintended ways, the company stated, pointing to three blog posts published before the Hugging Face incident: a March 2026 post on how it monitors agents for misalignment; the July 2026 system card for GPT-5.6 about its safety risks; and a July 2026 post about safety in long-horizon models, where OpenAI admitted that agents can perform "unwanted actions." The company said it considers the wiki incident a similar "instance of misalignment."
Featured Video For You Is ChatGPT Changing the Way We Write?OpenAI stated that its misalignment disclosure practices need to expand, and as of yet it and the larger AI company doesn't have a clear standard for reporting this. "We’re working on a framework and will share it in upcoming weeks, and in parallel we're working with dozens of government regulatory agencies worldwide on these issues."
The statement doesn't share how the company is working to stop these misalignments, or if it even can.
Disclosure: Ziff Davis, Mashable’s parent company, in April 2025 filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.

TL;DR: Purple's Labor Day sale runs Aug. 11 through Sept. 15, offering a king mattress for the price of a queen, up to $400 off adjustable bases, and and 15% off pillows, bedding, and accessories.
As Labor Day approaches, so does the itch to upgrade your bedroom before fall settles in. Purple's Labor Day sale is live now through Sept. 15, and it's a solid excuse to finally swap out the mattress you've been complaining about for years.
Buy a king mattress and pay queen-size pricing, which is a meaningful upgrade for anyone who's been cramped on a smaller bed. Pair it with an adjustable base, and you'll save up to $400, letting you customize your sleep position without paying full price for the tech that makes it possible.
Pillows, bedding, and accessories are also 15% off, so it's a good time to refresh the rest of your setup too — sheets, shams, and whatever else needs a switch. The one exclusion is the Grid Cloud Pillow, which stays at full price.
Purple mattresses are known for their gel-grid design, which aims to balance support and pressure relief better than standard foam. If you've been sleeping hot or waking up sore, this sale could be the fix.
Purple's Labor Day sale is the start of mattress-shopping season, and this one's easy to justify — snag it before Sept. 15.
Labor Day is the perfect excuse to finally get that rowing machine you've been eyeing for years, largely because top brands like Hydrow drop limited-time offers. From Aug. 24 through Sept. 10, you can save up to $450 on the brand's connected rowers — no code needed.
Whether you want Hydrow's flagship Origin, the compact and storable Wave, or the tech-loaded Arc, there's a discount waiting for you. Buy any of the three, and you'll also get a free "Strong Start" package (worth $300), including a 1:1 onboarding session, a four-week workout plan, and a workout kit. Order between Sept. 4 and Sept. 10, and you'll get a free month of membership tossed in too.
The Origin has been Hydrow's flagship since 2017. It comes with access to 6,000+ workouts, so you're getting a full cross-training system. Real athletes lead every class, and you'll get live feedback on splits, meters rowed, and streaks to help you track progress and push harder each session.
If you're tight on space, Wave is about 30% smaller than Origin and can even store upright, making it the pick for smaller apartments or shared workout spaces. It comes in five colors and has an open-frame design with a sleek, minimalist look. Don't let the compact size fool you, though — it still delivers the same smooth, quiet electromagnetic resistance and full library of 6,000+ workouts.
Finally, the Arc is for people who want the most advanced Hydrow experience. It's got better processing power, memory, and speakers to keep up with future software updates. HydroMetrics, a new strength-scoring system, provides real-time data so you can train with precision.
Ready to row into fall? Shop Hydrow's Labor Day sale before it's gone.

Labor Day is basically the awkward cousin of shopping holidays. You're not exactly thrilled it's here (RIP, summer), and it definitely lacks the pizzazz of Black Friday. But it does come with one perk: It's undeniably the best time of year to score a deal on those more expensive home essentials, like mattresses and major household appliances (e.g., washers and dryers, refrigerators, and dishwashers).

Frankly, paying an extra twenty bucks is well worth it if your washing machine has gone kaput, but I expect even bigger discounts as we get closer to the holiday weekend.
Whether your fridge is on its last leg or you've finally decided to upgrade the laundry room (honestly, good for you), I've scoured through the deals to help you find the best bang for your buck.

Indeed, there's a reason Black Friday was defined by viral videos of shoppers fist-fighting over the biggest TV deals in supermarket aisles. Thankfully, there's no fighting needed with Amazon's Labor Day sale, which has thrown up some very strong TV deals, including a reduction on the Toshiba 85-Inch Z670R Series TV.
As of Sept. 7, the Toshiba 85-Inch Z670R Series TV is marked down to $1,198.99 on Amazon, saving you $ 149.00 off the regular list price of $1,347.99. It's not quite this TV's lowest-ever price, but it's certainly close — it's literally $2.

If the Pumpkin Spite Latte's return to Starbucks didn't already alert you, Labor Day Weekend's arrival certainly will. Fall is coming, whether you're anticipating the season change or dreading it. The unofficial last hurrah of summer, Labor Day is the perfect excuse to squeeze in some last-minute beach days, backyard barbecues, and shopping sprees (obviously).
With tech prices constantly rising, major shopping holidays like Amazon's Labor Day sale are your best opportunity to score the devices you want at a discount. At many retailers, the sales have been underway for days, and we've already noticed all-time low prices on some of our favorite TVs of 2026 and noise-canceling headphones we adore. Plus, we're seeing some of the best discounts on Apple gear and Amazon devices since price hikes went into effect.
Here are some of the best deals we've spotted at Amazon.
Best Apple deal Opens in a new window Credit: Apple Apple iPad Air, 11-inch (M4, WiFi, 128GB) $649 at AmazonThe M4 iPad Air is hands down our top pick for an iPad for most people. While it's incredibly similar to its predecessor, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It features a thin and lightweight build, brilliant Liquid Retina display, insanely fast performance powered by the M4 chip, and Apple's N1 and C1X connectivity chips. Mashable's tech editor says it's powerful enough to handle memory-intensive programs like Final Cut Pro and even goes as far as calling it "way overpowered for most users." It starts at $749 for the 128GB version after the price hike, but for Labor Day, it's $100 cheaper.
Stock is running low across all color options, so grab it before it sells out. Otherwise, the 256GB option is still in stock for just $100 more.

Amazon surprised everyone with a monstrous price hike across all of its Fire TV, Kindle, and Echo devices earlier this month. This is the first big sale since the price hike, so we're happy to see many of these devices still getting the deal treatment. The Echo Show 11 is down to $189.99, which is $30 cheaper than its original price before the increase. Dubbed Amazon's "most advanced smart displays yet," the Echo Show 11 features the new in-house AZ3 Pro chips and Omnisense technology for AI-based, highly personalized experiences. There's also front-facing stereo speakers, a custom woofer for spatial audio, ambient visuals that adapt to your environment, and a built-in 13-megapixel camera that can recognize faces.

It's been out less than six months, but it's already our top pick for a QLED TV for most people. That "SQD" in the title stands for "super quantum dot mini LEDS," which is a lot of tech jargon for extremely bright quantum dots. Mashable's TV expert calls it one of the brightest TVs you can buy, period, shouting out its "superb peak brightness, detailed picture quality, and fantastic glare handling." The 65-inch model clocks in at $2,499.99 on a normal day, but it's down to a best-ever $1,397.99 at Amazon for Labor Day — a 44% discount.

These headphones have been replaced by the XM6s, but like most modern tech, the upgrades are iterative. "The XM5 headphones hold up well in 2026, and they're still worth the investment, especially when they're on sale," Mashable's reviewer writes. They offer 30 hours of battery life, an attractive design, legendary ANC, customizable sound quality, and good call quality. The only thing we aren't crazy about is that they don't fold up for travel. Originally retailing for $400, they're now much more affordable at under $200. For comparison, the newer XM6s are right around $400 on sale.

I write about holiday sales for a living, and somehow, I still managed to forget that this Monday is a federal holiday until about an hour ago. If you also just realized that Labor Day 2026 is literally this Monday (where does the time go?), don't worry!
Here's a complete list of what stores are open and closed this Labor Day.
What stores will be open on Labor Day?Banks, schools, and the DMV may shut down, but most businesses stay open on Labor Day so they can cash in on the sales. That said, it's always a good idea to double-check your local store hours, especially if you plan to shop later in the day.
SEE ALSO: 40+ Labor Day deals: We found limited-time deals on TVs, mattresses, Apple, and more to shop this weekend Groceries and big-box retailersWalmart: The big box retailer is open with regular hours; Walmart typically operates from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Target: The bullseye store will also be open, generally from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., though local times may vary (check out the Target 2026 Halloween collection)
Warehouse clubs: BJ's Wholesale Club is open during regular hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m; Sam's Club is open, but locations will close early at 6 p.m. local time. Unfortunately, Costco will be closed, however.
Trader Joe's and Whole Foods: Trader Joe's is operating normally from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Whole Foods locations are open but will have modified holiday hours, usually around 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Aldi: Open, but locations will operate on limited hours from 8:30 a.m. and close early at 6 p.m.
National and regional supermarkets: Kroger and its family of stores are open, though their pharmacy hours might vary. Regional grocery chains, including Stop & Shop, ShopRite, ACME, Foodtown, Lidl, and Wegmans, will also operate on open schedules. Wegmans locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., while Stop & Shop is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Apple: The Apple store should be open if you need to grab a spare charger or fix your iPhone. However, if you're looking for the best Labor Day Apple deals, you'll need to shop online.
Hardware stores: Home Depot and Lowe's are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., though Home Depot hours can vary slightly by location. IKEA is also open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Department stores: Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, JCPenney, Old Navy, Burlington, Boscov's, and Marshalls are open with regular hours.
Discount and dollar stores: Five Below, Goodwill, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar are all open and running normal hours.
Specialty and hobby stores: Barnes and Noble, Bath & Body Works, Bass Pro Shops, Dick's Sporting Goods, Petco, PetSmart, REI, and Ulta Beauty will all be open with normal hours. Hobby Lobby is open, but operates on reduced hours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Pharmacies: CVS and Walgreens storefronts are open. However, most Walgreens pharmacies and select CVS pharmacies will be closed, except 24-hour locations.
If you're not the BBQ, cookout type (I get it) and you'd rather not spend the day cooking, most major restaurant chains and fast-food drive-thrus are open with regular hours nationwide.
Fast food and coffee: Starbucks, Dunkin', McDonald's, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King are generally open, though individual franchise hours can vary slightly on holidays.
Sit-down dining: Chains like Applebee's, Chili's, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse, and Cracker Barrel keep their doors open to handle the holiday weekend crowds.
The general rule is that if it's a government building, a bank, or a membership warehouse that isn't Sam's Club or BJ's, it's closed.
Costco: Costco is closed on Labor Day.
Government offices: Federal, state, and local administrative offices, including courts, the DMV, and public libraries, are closed.
Schools: Public schools and universities are closed.
Banks: Branch locations are closed, but ATMs and online banking will still be available.
Financial markets: The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are closed.
Mail services: The USPS will not pick up or deliver regular mail, though Priority Mail Express will still run. UPS and FedEx will not have standard ground pickup and delivery services on Labor Day, though their critical/express services and some FedEx Office locations might have modified operating hours.
