The next Pro-level iPhone might be the beginning of the end for Dynamic Island.
According to a rumor posted by the Chinese site MyDrivers (via Wccftech), the iPhone 17 Pro might feature a downsized Dynamic Island. The pill-shaped front camera module that was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro has been a reliable and useful replacement for the hated notch, thanks to its ability to animate and show many different kinds of notifications. However, if this rumor is true, it'll be downsized on the 17 Pro, and as Wccftech pointed out, Apple could eventually ditch it altogether as it pursues a potential future "all-screen" iPhone. That, of course, would have to happen in 2026 at the earliest.
SEE ALSO: Apple reportedly cancels plans for iPhone subscription serviceMyDrivers also claimed the borders around the iPhone 17 Pro display will be smaller than they have been previously in the same report. Aside from that, details on the iPhone 17 Pro are scarce and murky. The Pro will theoretically be joined by a regular iPhone 17, as well as the heavily rumored iPhone 17 Air. The Air model is supposed to be the thinnest iPhone ever (in case the name didn't make that clear), but a recent report suggested Apple was having a difficult time accomplishing that due to battery size constraints.
If you love the Dynamic Island, make sure to hold it close as long as you can. It may not be long for this world.

The new year is nearly upon us, and whether or not you're big on setting resolutions, there is something about the blank slate of the start of the year that can make finally starting a new habit feel a little more accessible.
If you're looking for some structure and accountability, signing up for classes in whatever skill you're looking to improve can be a help, and luckily, there are course subscription deals in most topics you could think of, thanks sales from three separate services: Babbel, Coursera Plus, and MasterClass, with the latter two options offering 50% discounts, and the former offering up to a 65% discount for a lifetime subscription.
Among these three services, your bases in what you can learn, from language to professional development courses to cooking and tennis — if there's a skill you've been looking to work on, odds are there's some version of a class in one of these services. Below, you can find more info on each deal, from pricing, to course offerings and the deal terms.
Best deal for language learning: Babbel Opens in a new window Credit: Babbel Babbel $199.00Learning a language, or getting back into one, can feel like a daunting task, but Babbel seeks to make it easier. Upon sign up, users can start from the beginning of courses designed to get you speaking within weeks, or take a placement test if they have prior experience with a language. Babbel offers 13 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Norwegian, Danish, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian, Turkish, Dutch, and Polish. It's a fairly limited number, but as PCMag (our sister site also owned by Ziff Davis) noted in their review, each language's lessons feel tailored to the language itself so you can actually learn relevant information (versus than the same exact lesson plan that merely swaps out the languages).
If you've seen information about Babbel's live classes with an instructor, this deal does not include those classes. Instead, you'll have to pay for a Babbel Live subscription, which run for $99 per month for group classes or $149 for private classes, with the option for you to take as many classes as you want while your subscription is active.
As for the Babbel subscription that is actually on sale, there are slightly different discounts for separate tiers, but the greatest discount is for the lifetime subscription, which at full price is $599. PCMag noted that this price drops down to $299 relatively often, but with this New Year's deal, it drops even lower to $199.
Best deal for professional development: Coursera Plus Opens in a new window Credit: Coursera Coursera Plus annual subscription $199.00As PCMag notes in their review, Coursera has an expansive free course list from universities all round the world. We say it's the best option for developing professional skills out of these three options, and it does offer tons of courses in business, data science, leadership and management, with some courses even granting professional certificates. That said, Coursera also offers you a wide array of classes in other subjects, including social sciences, health, math, arts and humanities, and even language.
Opting for a Coursera Plus subscription means you'll come into contact with less paywalled classes, as every course tagged "Included with Coursera Plus" is free for paid users to take. At the sale price of $199, you'll be saving $200 a year, or 50% off the total price. If you need some time to think on it, no sweat — this deal is live until Jan. 27.
Best deal for everything else: MasterClass Opens in a new window Credit: MasterClass MasterClass Save 50% on standard, plus, and premium tier subscriptions Get Deal Why we like itIf you're looking for a wide expanse of classes and want to be taught by a celebrity, MasterClass is the service for you. They offer courses in categories like art and design, community and government, music, writing, sports and athletics, and science and technology. In other words, you have options.
And as we mentioned, those options are taught by people who are often very visibly at the top of their field — Simone Biles teaches gymnastics fundamentals, Martin Scorsese teaches filmmaking, and R.L. Stine teaches writing for young audiences, to name a select few. When reviewing the service for PCMag, contributor Jill Duffy found that the content, quality, and production value of the classes offered was hard to beat, writing, "The question I kept asking myself was, 'Could I find this content online for free if I really wanted it?' and the answer was 'no.'"
If you've been curious to test it out, the standard, plus, and premium subscription tiers are all marked down by 50%. While each tier includes all 200+ classes available, the standard tier only allows for you to watch on one device at a time without an offline mode, but it'll cost you only $5. A little pricier at $8, the plus tier allows for two devices to be used concurrently, plus an offline viewing mode. Finally for $10 a month, the premium tier ups the ante to six devices, also with an offline viewing mode. You'll want to act quick though — according to MasterClass, this offer ends today, Dec. 27.

Bluesky has become the home for users joining in the exodus of X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk bought the platform and subsequently joined the Trump administration. Trending Topics is one of the features that made Twitter so useful for breaking news, finding community, and talking about things in real-time — like TV shows and sporting events.
In a post detailing just how Trending Topics will work, Bluesky wrote that it is the first version of this feature and it will be "iterating" with user feedback.
"You can disable it with the X button or in Settings," the post reads, adding that any words you have muted will also be muted on Trending. It's currently only available in English, but will likely roll out to other languages once the platform tests it more thoroughly.

Our top pick: Amazon Echo Spot Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Amazon Echo Spot $44.99 at AmazonOne of the newest members of the Echo family, the Echo Spot is like a fancy alarm clock that allows you to start and end your days with smart features. It doesn't have a built-in camera, as that would be hella creepy, but it does show you the time, weather, song titles, and more at a glance. Control your smart devices with your voice, ask for the weather, set your favorite wake-up tune as your alarm, or ask it to lull you to sleep with white noise. It comes in three color options and is currently down to its previous record-low price of $44.99 as of Dec. 27. Even better, if you purchase two using the code SPOT2PACK, it'll only cost you $84.98 for two ($42.49 each) — a new all-time low.
Amazon Echo Show 5 Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Amazon Echo Show 5 $44.99 at AmazonThe third-generation Echo Show 5, released last year, boasts an upgraded speaker system that packs double the bass of its predecessor, as well as more clarity for calls, music, audiobooks, podcasts, video content, and more. The reengineered microphone array makes for better Alexa responsiveness, while the Amazon AZ2 Neural Edge makes for a speedier overall experience. The display is still on the small side, at 5.5 inches, but that's what makes it a good fit for a nightstand or desktop. At $44.99 as of Dec. 27, it's just $5 away from its best price ever. That's 50% in savings.
Whoop 4.0 Opens in a new window Credit: Whoop Whoop 4.0 fitness tracker $199.00 at AmazonThe Whoop 4.0 is one of our favorite fitness trackers on the market — particularly for sleep and recovery tracking. It delivers more data points than you could ever hope for in a fitness tracker, including daily activity strain, heart rate, sleep quality, daily recovery score, alcohol and stress impacts, and more. It's screen-free, so it won't add any unnecessary distractions to your day. Our reviewer Sam Stone mentioned that parsing through all the data that Whoop offers was "akin to taking the SAT," but he also adds that the Whoop 4.0 "is a fitness band that is built to create a workout routine that will stick." We wish the membership didn't cost so much ($239 per year), but this discount on the band itself helps bring down the overall cost. Save 17% as of Dec. 27 at Amazon.
De'Longhi Magnifica Plus Espresso Machine Opens in a new window Credit: De'Longhi De'Longhi Magnifica Plus Espresso Machine $705.95 at AmazonThe De'Longhi Magnifica Plus, like most espresso machines, comes with major sticker shock. As of Dec. 27, however, that shock stings a little less with a 41% discount. At $705.95, it's down to its lowest price on record. While that still seems a bit steep, it's actually a really solid deal with a fully automatic espresso machine with a built-in milk frother. It features 18 one-touch and customizable recipes for espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, and more. Plus, there's a built-in conical burr grinder with 13 different settings.
Apple AirTags (4-pack) Opens in a new window Credit: Apple Apple AirTags (4-pack) $69.99 at AmazonWe first saw this ultra-low price pop up during Black Friday, then again right before Christmas. We don't expect it will stick around much longer, so don't miss your chance to score a four-pack of Apple AirTags at its lowest price ever: $69.99. That's a savings of 29% and essentially gets you more than one and a half for free (reg. $29 a piece). These Bluetooth trackers are a must-have for iPhone users who are frequent flyers. As long as there's an Apple device nearby, you'll be able to keep track of whatever you attach your AirTag to — suitcase, keys, purse, guitar case, backpack, etc. You can see where you are in proximity to your stuff with an accuracy of only a few feet.

OpenAI is getting a corporate makeover.
The ChatGPT maker revealed in a company blog post (via The New York Times) that it plans to undergo some changes at the structural level soon. Specifically, OpenAI will become a Public Benefit Corporation, or PBC, a type of corporation in U.S. corporate law that explicitly exists to generate profits and benefit society in some way.
It still has "ordinary shares of stock," per OpenAI. Still, this new structure will incentivize the company to "balance shareholder interests, stakeholder interests, and a public benefit interest in its decisionmaking," in its own words.
SEE ALSO: OpenAI now lets you call ChatGPT on your phonePrior to this, OpenAI had both for-profit and nonprofit arms in its corporate operations. That will still be the case, with the non-profit holding shares in the PBC. However, OpenAI claimed in its blog post that this new structure will give it a greater ability to raise funds than before, though the blog post didn't really say how.
The for-profit arm will run day-to-day operations for OpenAI, while the non-profit arm will "hire a leadership team and staff to pursue charitable initiatives in sectors such as health care, education, and science."
It's not entirely clear how or if this will impact OpenAI's consumer-facing products or the user experience that goes with them in the short term. However, with ChatGPT experiencing a big service outage the day after Christmas, a big new helping of money and resources will probably be very welcome, if that is indeed how this goes down.
