Home Depot's 12-foot skeleton is getting even more upgrades as part of its huge Halloween drop

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 16:56

Hope you still have cash left over after Amazon Prime Day: The Home Depot will release its jam-packed 2024 Halloween collection online early Thursday morning.

After teasing the drop on social media last week, the home improvement retailer shared the first full look at its spine-chilling lineup Wednesday — including new add-ons and upgrades for its viral 12-foot skeleton ($299), which returns for its second restock of 2024. Shoppers will be able to spruce up "Skelly" with a new sharp-toothed Scary Head ($79.98) and a new accessory kit ($49.98), complete with a purse, shoes, and Wednesday Addams-esque wig. An LED Lighting Kit ($29.98) for its ribcage, which sold out quickly when it first went on sale last summer, will be on sale as well.

As if one 12-foot skeleton wasn't enough, the Home Depot is also set to launch two other versions of Skelly as part of Thursday's drop. One is a new limited-edition "Servo Skelly" ($379), a 12-footer with a moving, motorized head. The other is a three-foot "Mini LED Skelly" ($39.98), another returning hit from 2023. The 12-Foot Home Depot Skeleton Extended Universe knows no bounds.

This year marks the fourth coming of Skelly, which was refreshed for 2024 with customizable LCD "LifeEyes." Those who own an older Skelly model purchased between 2020 and 2023 will be able to buy an Eye Kit ($29.98) to update its peepers.

That's just the tip of the Home Depot Halloween iceberg; shoppers can expect to see a wide range of old and new faces in the upcoming launch. Leading the pack are the new 7 Ft. Skelly's Dog ($199), 12.5-Ft. Inferno Deadwood Skelly ($379), and 7-Ft. Animated Frankenstein's Monster ($279), which made their initial appearances with Skelly in the Home Depot's limited "Halfway to Halloween" drop this past April. Other new props featured in the launch include:

  • 12. Ft. Giant-Sized Animated LED Levitating Reaper ($299), a glowing cloaked skeleton armed with a scythe

  • 8.5 Ft. Animated Knight Dullahan ($379), a skeletal headless horseman

  • 7 Ft. Animated LED Captain Cuts ($249), a gruff-voiced pirate with a parrot pal

  • 5.5 Ft. Animated LED Fear Valley Wolf ($199), a rabid canid covered in fur and festering wounds

  • 7 Ft. Animated Victorian Vampire ($199), a Nosferatu wannabe

  • 9 Ft. Giant-Sized LED Murderous Maple ($249), a haunted light-up tree

  • 7 Ft. Animated Plague Doctor ($199), a moving medieval monster

  • 3.5 Ft. Animated Chucky Doll ($199), an almost-too-accurate Good Guy replica made

  • 7.5 Ft. Animated LED Trickster Trio Stack ($199), a pile of creepy clowns

Mashable can also confirm the fate of the 12-foot Inferno Pumpkin Skeleton ($379), Skelly's gourd-headed friend from the past three years: After going MIA this spring, it will indeed be included in Thursday launch, per a representative for the Home Depot. A new three-foot mini-me ($39.98) will be up for grabs, too.

We'll update this story early Thursday morning when links go live. In the meantime, shoppers can preview select items in the collection on the Home Depot's X/Twitter and Instagram accounts.

If you miss out on any of your favorite props in this week's drop, start popping by your local Home Depot between now and Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2). Most of the company's Halloween collection will be available in stores by then — save for the Servo Skelly and 12-foot Inferno Pumpkin Skeleton, two online exclusives.

The Home Depot isn't the only retailer fleshing out (boning out?) its Halloween collection for 2024. Target re-launched its eight-foot, TikTok-famous Lewis the Pumpkin Ghoul ($180) online this week alongside four new friends.

Now is a good time to buy any Halloween prop you might have your eye on, as they tend to sell out well before October. For their part, we expect many of the Home Depot's offerings to fly off its virtual shelves in mere hours, if that: Skelly's new 7-foot dog sold out in under 60 minutes during that first launch this spring.

Save big on the new AI-packed Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE at Best Buy

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 16:52

Today is the last day that you can save on the new Acer Chromebook deal with Best Buy’s Black Friday in July sale.

The big-box retailer is topping their previous sale for the Google Chromebook released earlier this year, which slashed the price by $70, with a $100 off deal on the new Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE

Best Buy’s Black Friday in July sale is competing with Amazon Prime Day and their slightly more expensive retail price for this device with a temporary price tag of $549.00

This cloud gaming laptop has a great display, RGB keyboard, a better processor than previous versions, and is packed with AI features intended to make the user experience a breeze. It's designed to meet the maximum requirements for cloud gaming apps like Nvidia GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Mashable’s Brittany Vincent previously reported:

Google's newly-released Chromebook Plus line comes with new-and-improved specs and souped-up AI features," Vincent said, before adding that its 256GB SSD has "plenty of space to store all your docs, photos, and more."

The best Bose headphones I've tested are just $10 away from their lowest price ever

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 15:56

SAVE $80: As of July 17, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones are just $349 at Amazon for Prime Day, saving you 19% on their usual $429 price tag.

As Mashable's shopping reporter on the headphones beat, I've tested out my fair share of headphones, from the high end to the budget friendly.

While testing, I tried to avoid calling one pair of headphones the definitive best, especially as a person's headphones experience can rely so heavily on personal preference. However, if what you're looking for is headphones designed for all-day wear, I'd say without contest that the most comfortable ones I've ever tested are the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones. And for the second day of Prime Day, they're on sale for $349 at Amazon, knocking $80 off their usual price.

SEE ALSO: The best Prime Day headphones and speaker deals we've found are right here

Obviously, not everyone is working with the same head shape — again, preferences are important. But as someone who's tried Sony's flagship line, JBL headphones, Bowers & Wilkins headphones, and two additional headphones from the QuietComfort line (the QC 35 II and QC 45 headphones), the QuietComfort Ultra headphones feel the lightest, squeeze the least, and have the softest ear cushions. I've worn them for entire workdays and on flights while wearing glasses without any issue.

Mashable Shopping Reporter Sam Mangino also tested the headphones, and said in her review, "These are absolutely the most comfortable over-the-ear headphones I've tried."

Comfortable as they are, they're not without their faults. The Bluetooth pairing can be inconsistent, especially with multiple devices paired, which feels like a glaring issue at their price point. They don't support passive playback without being turned on (kind of defeating the point of having a wired connection), and could offer better spatial audio (though this is Bose's first attempt at offering it on their headphones).

All that said, their noise-cancelling is top-notch — these headphones were a godsend to me when I worked from home right across the street from a large construction project. Their battery life holds up, even with ANC turned on, and their ear cups fold in for travel (which can't be said for the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones).

At $349, the trade-offs could well be worth it for you, especially if you've been on the hunt for the most comfortable over-ear headphones possible.

Take 20% off the foldable DJI Mini 4K drone this Prime Day

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 15:48

SAVE $60: The DJI Mini 4K drone is on sale for $239, down from $299, at Amazon for Prime Day. That's 20% off.

Drones are incredibly fun, but not everybody wants a big electric bird. That's exactly why the DJI Mini 4K exists, and it's now on sale as part of Amazon's Prime Day discounts. It's a nifty little 4K drone that's small and foldable and still promises up to 31 minutes of recording.

As of July 17, the DJI Mini 4K drone is on sale at Amazon for $239. That's $60 off the list price of $299, a 20% discount for Prime Day. It's one of the best drone deals you can get this Prime Day, and a record-low price for this tiny drone. Amazon also has the DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo bundle with two batteries, a shoulder bag, and a charging hub on sale for the record-low record price of $359.

SEE ALSO: The best drones for beginners

The DJI Mini 4K is a pretty capable drone, with a three-axis gimbal that makes it easier to capture stable footage in 4K while flying at high speeds. It also has level 5 wind resistance, which means it can handle a bit of resistance from the weather, despite being so small. It can also transmit HD video over six miles, so you won't lose this easily.

Trello leak: Over 15 million email addresses exposed. How did this happen?

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 15:18

Trello is a popular project management tool that's well-known for its kanban-style list format.

On Tuesday, the private data connected to 15,115,516 Trello user profiles was shared on a popular forum for hackers, as first noticed by the cybersecurity news website Bleeping Computer. It appears that a single hacker discovered a flaw in Trello's system and was able to extract sensitive private user data.

While much of the data connected to a Trello account is public information, not all of it is. By far, the most concerning part of the breach for Trello users is the email address data.

Over 15 million Trello users now have their private email addresses associated with their Trello profiles exposed to the public.

How did this happen?

The Trello data breach and subsequent leak can be traced back to earlier this year. Bleeping Computer first noticed in January that the hacker, with the moniker "emo," was selling the Trello data on the hacking forum before providing greater access to it this week.

Both Trello's parent company, Atlassian, and "emo" (the hacker), have since shared more information about how this leak came to be.

According to a forum post by the hacker, they discovered that "Trello had an open API endpoint that allows any unauthenticated user to map an email address to a trello account." In a correspondence with Bleeping Computer, the hacker further explained that once they discovered the flaw, they put together a list of hundreds of millions of email addresses and cross checked them with the Trello accounts in the API. From there, "emo" was able to link those email addresses with Trello accounts and create a user profile for more than 15 million accounts.

Atlassian confirmed the issue with Bleeping Computer in a statement, saying that the Trello REST API was intended to allow Trello users to invite guests to public boards through email. The company has updated the Trello API to preserve this feature while preventing its misuse by bad actors.

"Given the misuse of the API uncovered in this January 2024 investigation, we made a change to it so that unauthenticated users/services cannot request another user's public information by email," Atlassian said in its statement. "Authenticated users can still request information that is publicly available on another user's profile using this API. This change strikes a balance between preventing misuse of the API while keeping the ‘invite to a public board by email’ feature working for our users. We will continue to monitor the use of the API and take any necessary actions."

Fixing the issue is certainly a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the leaked data that was obtained through this method is still out there. And if one wonders exactly what can be done with this data, "emo" the hacker shared exactly why the Trello leak is useful to bad actors in their forum post.

"This database is very useful for doxing," wrote emo, who explained one can simply match the email address to a full name or alias attached to a Trello account using the stolen data.

Trello users should be aware that this sensitive data is out there.

The best Prime Day beauty deals, from a beauty tech reviewer

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 15:11

As a shopping and reviews editor, I've hands-on tested my fair share of products, including headphones and e-readers, but my bread and butter is beauty tech. I've been obsessed with skincare, makeup, and hair tools for most of my life. And yes, I even went through eyebrow blindness in 2016 — it's a rite of passage.

Whether I'm reviewing a product for work or just trying out a tool for my daily routine, I love to get my hands on beauty devices to see if they do what they promise (and are worth the money) or are overhyped. I've certainly come away with some favorites, some of which are on sale for Prime Day. I'm here to save you the trouble of poring through user reviews by telling you exactly which beauty products on sale are actually good deals and worth buying.

TheraFace PRO Opens in a new window Credit: Therabody TheraFace PRO $299.00 at Amazon
$399.00 Save $100.00 Get Deal

The TheraFace PRO is probably my favorite skincare device I've ever used, and it turned me into a TheraBody Beauty stan. I use it almost every day to wash my face, employing the facial cleansing attachment. And while I typically use the TheraFace Mask for my LED therapy now, the PRO is still my go-to for the microcurrent, massage, and hot and cold tools.

This is an investment with an MSRP of $399 and an additional $99 for the hot and cold rings, but if you live and breathe skincare, it's worth it. The battery lasts so long and it truly is an all-in-one device. I've even used it for non-beauty purposes when I have headaches and need a little temple massage.

During Prime Day, the TheraFace PRO is on sale for $299, or $100 off, at both Amazon and Therabody direct. The hot and cold attachments are also discounted by $20.

Solawave 4-in-1 Radiant Renewal Wand Opens in a new window Credit: Solawave Solawave 4-in-1 Radiant Renewal Skincare Wand $109.85 at Amazon
$169.00 Save $59.15 Get Deal

Before there was TheraFace PRO, there was Solawave. It felt like every celeb was using the LED device during their pre-event routines. I was totally influenced to buy it when it went on sale for Black Friday a couple of years ago. Note that I own an older model than what Solawave is currently offering.

I love the Solawave device because it's small enough to be thrown in whatever bag, wherever you go. I don't travel with my TheraFace because I'm the queen of never checking a bag and shoving everything I can into a carry-on duffle bag. But the Solawave has such a slim profile, that I never mind making room for it.

I do prefer the TheraFace Mask for all-over LED light therapy, but I absolutely love my Solawave for targeting my under-eyes. It's also so lovely for a little massage between my eyebrows (an area that also happens to house some gnarly scowl lines that could benefit from red light therapy).

The Solawave skincare wand is on sale for 35% off at Amazon and 40% off with code PRIME40 at Solawave while supplies last.

Shark FlexStyle Opens in a new window Credit: Shark Shark FlexStyle with 6-piece accessory pack $237.99 at Amazon

When the Dyson Airwrap came out, I thought no way in hell would I ever spend $600 on a hair tool. And I still stand by that. But credit where credit is due, Dyson created a dope ass product. Which is why I love the Shark FelxStyle so much: It's the perfect dupe.

My hair is short, just above my shoulders, so I can't create the gorgeous blowouts I see across TikTok, but the FlexStyle does still help me with cute, voluminous styles. It's also become my favorite hair dryer by a long shot. I love rough drying my hair without any attachments, then adding the round brush attachment to give my fine, pin-straight hair some lift.

The Shark FlexStyle is already a more affordable Dyson Airwrap dupe, and during Prime Day it's dropped down another $82.

iPadOS 18 public beta: How to install it

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 14:53

The iPadOS 18 public beta dropped earlier this week, giving us a sneak peek into iPad's next big update ahead of iPadOS 18's official release later this year.

One of the most highly anticipated features of iPadOS 18, as evidenced by the "most replayed" portion of Apple's WWDC 2024 YouTube livestream, is Math Notes. Screen sharing is another eye-catching feature, allowing users to employ informal technical support methods with tech-confused loved ones.

To try these features, though, you'll have to install the iPadOS 18 public beta.

How to install iPadOS 18 public beta

Keep in mind that iPadOS 18 is still a bit rough around the edges. To protect your device, I highly suggest backing up your iPad. If you have an extra iPad lying around that supports iPadOS 18, I recommend you use that instead of running the public beta on your daily driver iPad.

Now that you're aware of the risks, let me show you how to install iPadOS 18 public beta.

  • Go to Settings.

  • Under General, tap on Software Update.

  • Tap on Beta Updates followed by iPadOS 18 public beta.

  • Hit the back button (on the top left) to head back to the Software Update page.

  • Tap on Update Now.

You may be prompted to type in your passcode. A progress bar will appear, getting your iPad ready to install iPadOS 18 public beta. It should only take a few minutes before the "Install Now" button appears.

As mentioned at the outset, the official release date of iPadOS 18 is some time in the fall, perhaps alongside the launch of iPhone 16.

The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ (Series II) speaker is just $195 for Prime Day

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 14:46

The tech deals during Prime Day can often bring great value. This year is certainly no exception. If you're in the market for a high-end portable speaker, then this deal on the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ (Series II) Bluetooth speaker could be for you.

It's going for $195 on Prime Day Wednesday, an all-time-low price. That represents a 41% discount, and $134 in savings, on its typical list price of $329. That's nothing to scoff at.

It's got all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a premium portable speaker, including water resistance, a 17-hour battery life, and great sound. Price is a typical complaint with Bose products, so now might just be the time to get the high-end speaker.

Apple Watch Series 9 sees its biggest discount yet for Prime Day

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 14:42

SAVE $119: The 45mm model of the Apple Watch Series 9 with GPS is at its lowest price that we've seen on Prime Day. It can be had for $309.99 on Amazon, a $119 drop from its $429 sticker price.

Apple Watch Series 9 (GPS, 45mm) $309.99 at Amazon
$429.00 Save $119.01 Get Deal

If you have an iPhone and you're in the market for an Apple Watch, one of the latest models is pretty steeply discounted for Amazon Prime Day.

For just $309.99, you can get the 45mm model of the Apple Watch Series 9, released last year. Our reviewer Stan Schroeder called it "a robust and elite wearable device – the best Apple has ever made," thanks to its strong suite of health-focused features and powerful hardware. Its display has double the peak brightness of the Series 8, making it much more suitable for use in bright sunlight, too.

Between all of that and a new chipset powering the device to provide faster performance, the Series 9 may be the best Apple Watch you can get right now.

'Challengers' is dirt cheap, and 4 other Prime Day deals our film critic thinks you need to know about

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 14:34

In the age of streaming, it can feel like everything is at the tip of your fingertips. But in the words of beloved cinema brat Dakota Johnson, "That's not the truth, Ellen."

Let me warn you — as Mashable's chief film critic and entertainment editor — at any moment your favorite show or movie can just be gone. Nowhere to be streamed! We can't anticipate the whims of studios like Max and Disney seeking tax breaks by killing movies or pulling shows from their streaming services. So, when you see a deal on your faves, treat yourself (and save future you some infuriation).

This very morning, I did exactly this to secure some of my personal favorites, either through digital purchases on Prime Video or old-school physical copies. So the streaming wars can literally pry these from my cold dead hands!

You can search Amazon for various movie/TV deals, exclusive to Prime Members. But here are my personal favorites:

Best movie of 2024 Opens in a new window Credit: MGM / EPK "Challengers" $8.99 at Amazon
$19.99 Save $11.00 Get Deal

One of the best — and most talked about — movies of the year comes from Luca Guadagnino, the master of steamy romance, whether it be the swoon-worthy food journey of I Am Love, the lusty summer love found in Call Me by Your Name, or the cannibalistic coming-of-age that was Bones and All. Yet the hottest of all, hands-down, is Challengers.

Sure, on the surface, this movie is about tennis (much to the chagrin of pope of trash John Waters). But just beneath its very sweaty surface is a triangle of regret, jealousy, and desire that throws Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O'Connor into intense scenes that are scintillating and sublime.

Plus, on Prime Day, this digital purchase is less than the cost of a movie theater ticket, and way less when you consider its leading lady Zendaya insists this hot hit needs to be seen at least three times to be fully appreciated. So buy it and watch it once for every side of this intense love triangle. You'll be a better person for it.

Best buy for animation fans Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon "Avatar" & "Legend of Korra" Complete Series Collection on Blu-ray $27.99 at Amazon
$37.65 Save $9.66 Get Deal

This box set includes all three seasons of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender, meaning books Water, Earth, and Fire, and all four seasons of Avatar: The Legend of Korra, meaning books Air, Spirits, Change, and Balance

Sure, with the Netflix live-action remake, you may have recently revisited this fan-adored franchise from Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. But with one buy, you'll have these Blu-rays for anytime the urge hits to revisit this sensational series. Or, hey, introduce it to the next generation, who will revel over the antics and adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Korra, Bolin, and many, many more.

Plus, the special features include behind-the-scenes featurettes, animatics, shorts, commentaries from the cast and crew of Korra, and more. Get it for yourself, or get a jump on holiday shopping for the animation lover in your life.

Best binge-watch Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon "Ghosts" UK $4.99 at Amazon
$14.99 Save $10.00 $4.99 per season Get Deal

This madcap series from the sidesplitting comedy troupe that brought us Horrible Histories is basically a workplace sitcom about a bunch of unhinged ghosts bound across ages to the same English estate. So, when a living couple comes in looking to renovate the grand house on the edge of ruin into a bustling bed-and-breakfast, there's a lot of paranormal activity, all of it absolutely hilarious.

Forget the American version. The UK original is absolutely outstanding, featuring a superstitious cave man, a comically uptight World War II captain, a fussy Grey Lady from the Edwardian era, a bubbly Georgian noblewoman, a Stuart peasant who is still spooked from being burned as a witch, a pantless politician (who died in flagrante delicto), a hopelessly romantic poet/sex pest from the Regency age, and an indomitably chipper scout leader from the 1970s. Fish out of water in the modern age of their living roommates, they offer stories that are edged with dark humor, but radiant in physical comedy, gleeful absurdity, and keen observational humor.

Over the years, Ghosts has become my go-to comfort watch, even as it bounced from Max to Paramount+ to nowhere. So, when I saw you can snag all five seasons at a discount (each is just $4.99 right now), you better believe I added them to my cart without a second thought.

Best romance deal Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon "Pride & Prejudice" $6.99 at Amazon
$14.99 Save $8.00 Get Deal

Before there was Bridgerton, there was Jane Austen’s most beloved enemies-to-lovers novel. And while there are some stellar adaptations out there (from the divine miniseries starring Colin Firth to Bridget Jones’s Diary starring Colin Firth), Joe Wright’s sweeping Regency-era epic is my personal favorite.

Keira Knightley stars as the spirited and sometimes sarcastic Lizzie Bennett, who first loathes then comes to love the socially chilly yet warm-hearted Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen pre-Succession). Their chemistry alone is intoxicating (and that bit with his tensed hand — swoon!). But this flushed and flirty Pride & Prejudice also boasts splendid performances from Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, Jena Malone, and Donald Sutherland — as well as deliciously repulsive turns from Tom Hollander as the creepy Mr. Collins and Dame Judi Dench as his ruthlessly snobby patron, Lady Catherine de Bourg. Simply put, this 2005 hit is utterly timeless in its pleasures.

And while I’d recommend buying it, you could alternatively take advantage of the Prime Day subscription deals, getting your first two months of Starz for just $0.99.

Best thrill-seeker cinema Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection $54.99 at Amazon
$99.99 Save $45.00 Get Deal

If you love Fast & Furious, you’re family. So embrace the high-speed heists and absolutely outrageous rescue missions of Dominic Toretto and his crew by snagging all 10 of their movies: The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, Fate of the Furious, F9: The Fast Saga, and Fast X. (Hobbes and Shaw not included.)

With these absolutely epic action movies at your fingertips, you can come up with your own Fast & Furious ranking. You can marvel at the most ridiculous stunts, from Dom fighting helicopters from his car to Tej and Roman shooting into space. And — maybe best of all — you can expand the Fast family by introducing your loved ones to the pulse-pounding plot twists and bonkers family tree that’s kept this blockbuster franchise going strong.

If they need convincing, tell them Christopher Nolan loves these movies. Or mention how sublimely bonkers Jason Momoa is as the latest Fast villain. There's still time to catch them up before Fast X Part 2 comes to blow our minds in 2026. And at this price, each movie comes in less than the cost of a medium popcorn.

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 14:30

If you've been wanting to watch Showtime hits like The Curse and Yellowjackets or Paramount+ originals like Criminal Minds Evolution or Evil (the best show you're not watching), now's your chance to do it on a budget. For an extremely limited time — like, today only — you can sign up for Paramount+ with Showtime for 50% off for two months.

Usually, Paramount+ with Showtime costs $11.99 per month, but on July 17, you can sign up for just $5.99 for your first two months. That's the same price as the Paramount+ Essential tier, which doesn't allow you to watch Showtime hits or your local CBS station live. Plus, it's ad-free. In other words, it's a total steal.

SEE ALSO: Amazon's Prime Day TV deals are really good

Sure, you'll have to pay full price once your first two months are up, but you can watch a whole lot of stuff before then. It's up to you whether you want to keep things rolling at the full cost per month after that, or cancel altogether. You could also downgrade to the Essential tier and keep paying the same price (although you'll lose access to Showtime and your live local station). It's also worth noting that the price for the Showtime plan is expected to increase to $12.99 per month at the end of August, making this even more of an incentive to grab the deal. Stream as much as you can before the inevitable price hike.

AI PCs have been all the rage in the last few weeks, and now we've got a solid discount on one of the first Copilot+ PCs on the market, making it easier for folks to make a bet on these new PCs.

As of July 17, the HP OmniBook X is available at Best Buy for $999.99. That's $200 off the list price of $1,199.99, a 17% discount as a part of Best Buy's Prime Day counter-sale. The HP OmniBook X is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, an ARM chip like the Apple Silicon found in MacBooks today. The key draw here is the ability to run AI tools efficiently and the excellent battery life, both of which are important features in a new laptop now.

We had the HP OmniBook X in for review very recently, and it got a glowing 4.5 score from our East Coast Tech Editor, Kimberly Gedeon. In the review, she called it the best Windows laptop she's reviewed this year, noting that the processor does, indeed, beat the M3 MacBooks. That's big praise and put together with the 16 hours of battery life on a single charge as our review reported, this laptop is easy to recommend, especially under $1,000.

I review tech for a living, and these are the best Prime Day tablet deals

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 13:33

The best Prime Day tablet deals are difficult to find among the deluge of discounts that are drowning shoppers at Amazon.

Instead of scratching your head over which tablet deal is worth it — and which ones are worth skipping — wouldn't it be nice to simply ask an expert, someone who knows tablets, to help you make sense of it all? As it turns out, you're in luck. I happen to review tech for a living, including laptops, phones, and, of course, tablets.

I know which tablets are worth grabbing (i.e., the iPad Pro), as well as the ones you should pass on (like the new iPad Air). That being said, here are the best Prime Day tablet deals. (While you're at it, check out our Prime Day tech deals hub, which was also curated by an expert.)

This list, curated by a tablet expert (i.e., yours truly), will contain a mix of both iPad and Android tablet deals. Based on my expertise, this list will only contain the best tablet deals.

11-inch iPad Pro (M4)

The latest, newest iPad Pro has dropped down to $919 on Amazon from its original price of $1,000.

The new iPad Pro, but in the 13-inch model. Credit: Joe Maldonado / Mashable

Here are three reasons why I recommend the new iPad Pro, according to my testing:

  • It's the thinnest Apple product ever, making it super light, ultra-portable, and travel-friendly

  • The battery life, tested by Mashable, is out of this world

  • Mind-blowing performance that beats some laptops

To dive deeper into these three points, Apple boasted that its latest iPad Pro is thinner than an iPod Nano. But when I actually got a chance to play with it, as I mentioned in my review, it was like holding the whispers of technology in my palms.

Next, the battery life is incredible. I ran a TikTok rundown on the 13-inch iPad Pro, and to my surprise, it lasted 16 hours and 24 minutes on a single charge. With the 11-inch iPad Pro sporting the same M4 chip, it should offer a similar runtime.

And finally, after running some benchmarks, the iPad Pro has incredible performance, so much so that it even beats some MacBooks and PCs. The only downside I noticed during my testing, however, is that the iPad Pro can run hot while running some intensive tasks (e.g., gaming). Plus, if you want to transform your iPad Pro into a laptop-like setup, I suggest upgrading to the 13-inch model and pairing it with Apple's Magic Keyboard.

$1,000.00 Save $81.00 This is the latest, newest iPad Pro from Apple Get Deal Lenovo Chromebook Duet

This one is an oldie, but a goodie — and it's just $189 at Amazon, as of this writing. Lenovo, by the way, is one of the most respected laptop vendors in the world as the mastermind behind the ThinkPad line.

Lenovo Chromebook Duet Credit: Kimberly Gedeon / Mashable

I own a Chromebook Duet — and it's the one of the best budget tablets on the market, particularly if you often work with the Android ecosystem. Here's why I recommend the Chromebook Duet:

  • It has a budget-friendly price tag of less than $200

  • It has a battery runtime of about 9 to 10 hours

  • Great for Google-focused workflows

The above selling points speak for themselves. The Chromebook Duet won't break the bank, and it delivers killer battery life. But keep in mind that it has ChromeOS built into its system, not Android, so this device is best for users with Google-focused workflows.

Get Deal Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+

If you're a casual artist, or you love to take notes, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE is my best recommendation for you. It's down to just $398 on Amazon for Prime Day from its original price of $600.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ in all of its glory Credit: Amazon

Here are the three reasons I suggest it:

  • It ships with an S Pen

  • Decent battery life (compared to similarly priced tablets)

  • Sturdy, waterproof build

Many tablets out there support styli (yes, styli is the plural of stylus), but they don't ship with an actual pen. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE, on the other hand, does come with the S Pen included, so you don't have to worry about purchasing one separately. On top of that, it's one of the best Android tablets (perhaps next to its pricier Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra sibling).

According to our sister site PCMag (we share the same parent company, Ziff Davis), the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ lasted about 8 hours on a charge (which isn't half bad compared to similarly priced competitors). My only caution is that this is a mid-range tablet, so its performance is not built to support heavy graphics rendering. If you want a turbocharged Android tablet, I suggest getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra instead.

$599.99 Save $201.99 Get Deal OnePlus Pad

I highly suggest the OnePlus Pad, which is down to $369.99 for Prime Day from its original price of $480.

Credit: Amazon

OnePlus is beginning to catch the attention of consumers who often only flock to Apple, Google, and Samsung for their mobile needs. After getting glowing reviews for its smartphone efforts, OnePlus is now getting praise for the OnePlus Pad. Here's why I recommend it:

  • It has a striking, vibrant, 11.6-inch, 2800 x 2000-pixel screen

  • Loud, booming speakers

  • Decent battery life

According to our sister site PCMag, OnePlus lasted about 8 hours on a charge. That's certainly not as long as the 16-hour iPad Pro, but it should be able to last an 8-hour work or school day. It also has a slick Android skin, punchy audio, and a gorgeous display. One thing to consider, however, is that the OnePlus Pad may not be able to keep up with more intensive workflows.

$479.99 Save $110.00 Get Deal Samsung Galaxy A9+ Plus

The Samsung Galaxy A9+ Plus is another tablet I recommend, and it only costs $142.49 on Amazon for Prime Day (down from $220).

Credit: Amazon

Here's why I suggest it:

  • Budget-friendly, giving you a lot of bang for your buck

  • Great software that facilitates productivity

  • Punchy speakers

Despite being less than $150 at Amazon, the software on Galaxy A9+ is seamless for anyone who wants to get light work done on it. As PCMag pointed out, it sports some "productivity boosters," including a hideable taskbar, the ability to use multiple apps at once, and easy sharing of media between other Samsung devices.

If you own a Samsung phone, the Galaxy A9+ Plus is my recommendation if you're seeking a wallet-friendly, smooth-and-seamless Android tablet.

The Ninja Foodi XL indoor grill is just $150 for Prime Day — a new all-time low price

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 12:54

Save $110: The Ninja FG551 Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1 Indoor Grill is steeply discounted for Prime Day. It's on sale for $149.99, a 42% decrease from its usual list price of $259.99.

$259.99 Save $110.00 Get Deal

The Ninja Foodi XL Indoor Grill — which can also be used to air fry, dehydrate, roast, and more — is a useful kitchen tool on sale for $149.99 during Amazon's Prime Day. That's an all-time-low price and $110 in savings from its list price of $259.99.

I've tested a previous version of this grill, and used the newer version at a family member's home, and it's a great kitchen tool, especially for those who live in small spaces. It can get you a good sear and grill marks — it circulates heat like an air fryer — while limiting smoke output via its heavy-duty hood.

Ninja's Foodi line has long competed with Instant Pot, which has a cheaper option, but the Foodi XL grill is definitely a product worth considering, in my experience. And if you're in the market for a cooking gadget Ninja might be the choice for this Prime Day. Mashable has an updated list of the best Ninja deals, which are especially prevalent this Prime Day. As Senior Shopping Reporter Leah Stodart wrote, "Ninja is making sure it catches your eye when you drop it into the search bar on Prime Day."

Not sold by the Samsung Galaxy Ring? Pick up an Oura Ring 3 for up to 19% off on Prime Day.

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 12:45

SAVE UP TO 19%: Oura's third-generation smart ring is between 15% and 19% off on Amazon, depending on your choice of color.

$349.99 Save $67.30 Get Deal

Amazon Prime Day is as good a time as any to load up on health tech. If you've been looking for a wearable that can track your sleep metrics (among other things), the discounted Oura Ring Gen 3 might be right for you.

As one of the many deals available on Prime Day, Oura is selling its latest smart ring for between 15 and 19% off, depending on color. For instance, the silver model is 19% off, coming in at $282.69 rather than the list price of $349. On the other end of the price spectrum, the rose gold model is $444.69 after a 19% discount because it normally runs customers $549.

But every color is discounted to some extent, which is ideal for wearable shoppers because the very similar Samsung Galaxy Ring is right around the corner at $399. If you want to track your sleep and other health metrics without diving fully into the Samsung product ecosystem, now might be the time.

My mom's favorite gift, the Echo Show 10, is on sale for Prime Day

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 12:26

SAVE $50: The Echo Show 10 makes a fantastic kitchen companion and is on sale for $199.99, down from $249.99 during Prime Day.

I have an Echo Show 10 set up in my living room and I love the thing. I use it daily for music and checking the weather (very high-tech, I know). When my mom came to visit me last year, she became enamored by the Amazon device. She thought it was so cool and would fit perfectly in her kitchen.

So, during Black Friday 2023, I took advantage of a steep discount and bought an Echo Show 10 for my mom for her December birthday. She has, on multiple occasions, told me about a new feature she discovered or that she uploaded her photos to the device to cycle through during our regular phone calls.

Just this morning, she called me to ask me 1) what the device is called, and 2) if it's on sale for Prime Day. She has some friends visiting her for the week and apparently one of them is interested in an Echo Show 10 for herself.

Unfortunately, the 2024 Prime Day deal is not as great as the 2023 Black Friday deal — $50 off this year versus $90 off last year. However, my mom and I both swear by the device and would still recommend buying at the current Prime Day discount.

I find laptop deals for a living, and these are the best ones to buy this Prime Day

Mashable - Wed, 07/17/2024 - 12:05

As one of Mashable's senior shopping reporters, I vet thousands of laptop deals on a very regular basis. This means I'm always hoarse from hollering about how Amazon is the worst place to find them.

Shoppers can be easily misled by the retail giant's myriad incorrect sticker prices, and its selection of laptop brands pales in comparison to that of other retailers (particularly Best Buy); the only models it reliably stocks and discounts year-round are newer Apple MacBooks. Outside of that category, a good chunk of the laptops I encounter on Amazon (too many) are sold by sketchy third-party sellers instead of Amazon itself. Generally speaking, the laptop deals there just aren't worth most people's time — or mine, frankly.

I sing a different tune on Prime Day, though. Once Amazon's flagship summer sale starts (and not a moment sooner), it conveniently decides to list a wider array of legitimately good deals on laptops that it personally ships and sells — that I'm more likely to recommend. Why doesn't it do this year-round? Good question! Regardless, Amazon and I have a peace treaty of sorts for those blissful 48 hours.

A peace treaty... but not an exclusivity agreement. Having scoped out some of the best laptop deals available during Prime Day 2024 (live through Wednesday, July 17), I can tell you that Amazon has some good options for those looking for Apple MacBooks, LG grams, and gaming laptops from Acer and Asus. But I'd also still encourage you to branch out to Best Buy: Its Black Friday in July savings event has shaped up to be some serious Prime Day competition, and smart shoppers would be remiss not to cross-check both sales.

If you don't want to wade through their dueling discounts yourself, I've highlighted three of the very best laptop deals I would snap up in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a new machine.

A big price drop on a MacBook? At Amazon? Groundbreaking. Seriously, though, this is an unprecedented record-low for Apple's latest 13-inch MacBook Air, a Mashable Choice Award-winner (and our current favorite MacBook for most people) that has a peppy CPU, WiFi 6E support, and the closed-lid ability to drive two external monitors at once. Its discount comes thanks to an on-page coupon that drops its sale price by an additional $50, so be sure to tick that box next to the orange flag on its product page before heading to checkout. (The 15-inch model was getting the same treatment at the time of writing, if you want two extra speakers and a bigger display.)

For what it's worth, Best Buy was matching this offer during its Black Friday in July sale, but only for paid members of its My Best Buy program.

For only $50 more, I'd strongly consider buying the M3 Air if you're looking to upgrade from an older MacBook. But if you just want to spend as little as possible, the M2 version is an excellent value at just $799, its own all-time low. It's up for grabs at both Amazon and Best Buy, with no memberships required to access their deals.

The OmniBook X is one of the all-new CoPilot+ PCs powered by a snazzy Snapdragon X Elite chip, and this is the first time I've caught it on sale since it launched in mid-June. (Come to think of it, this is the first time I've caught any CoPilot+ PC on sale.) Mashable Tech Editor Kim Gedeon recently gave it a 4.5/5 rating and a Mashable Choice Award, deeming it "the best Windows laptop I've tested this year" in her review: "It's fun, fast, and fierce," she wrote, commending its MacBook-beating performance and battery life. I'll soon be updating our Windows laptop guide accordingly.

It's not specced to the nines, but it's an awesome, approachable option for casual gamers with an awesome, approachable price — now more than ever. After dropping to $579 at Best Buy last month, it's now on sale there for $549. That's $100 off and its lowest price yet.
