The 5 essentials in my bag as I get ready for VidCon 2026

Mashable - Tue, 06/23/2026 - 04:55

VidCon 2026 is nearly here, and it's time for me to pack my bags.

Though I'll be spending June 24 to 27 asking creators all about what's in their bags, naturally, I have to come prepared with some gear of my own.

SEE ALSO: Why VidCon still matters in 2026

So what does a reporter bring in preparation for the biggest content creation meetup of the year? Obviously, my work-issued laptop is an essential, but I have a few other tech and lifestyle favorites to round out my packing list as I head to the convention for the second time.

Noise-cancelling headphones

As a headphones reviewer, I get my pick of the lot when deciding which pair to bring with me to VidCon. The Sony WH-1000XM6s stand out because they have excellent noise cancellation, are comfortable enough to wear during hours of listening back to interviews and locking in for writing, and the ear cups fold up, making them a great portable option.

$459.99 Save $61.99   Shop Now A portable charger

I could fight for an open outlet in the Anaheim Convention Center. Or I could have a way to charge my laptop, charger, headphones, and a colleague's device all at the same time within arm's reach at any moment. The latter is by far the more appealing option, which is why I'm bringing along the Anker laptop power bank.

  Shop Now My trusty Owala

Where I go, my Owala FreeSip goes, and VidCon is no exception. Trust me when I say this is not a water bottle that's pure internet hype — in fact, it's a Mashable shopping team favorite. The FreeSip lid that allows you to use it as both a straw and an open-mouth bottle is the exact versatility I look for in a bottle. Though the 32-ounce bottle is a little on the large side for taking on the go, it does mean that I won't have to go looking for a new source of water all that often.

  Shop Now A notebook

I have one of those brains that requires me to write with pen and paper in order to organize my thoughts. (I literally wrote out this very list in a notebook before I got to typing.) As a lifelong stationery lover, I am picky about which notebooks I use. For VidCon, I'll be bringing along my B6 Stalogy, which lies flat, has ultra-smooth paper, and is compact enough to take on the go, without being too small as to make the writing experience cramped. The light blue version I have is currently sold out at JetPens, but it is available in black and red.

Opens in a new window Credit: Stalogy Stalogy Editor's Series 365Notebook (B6) $29.50 at JetPens
  Shop Now Kobo Libra Colour

Though not necessarily an essential for covering VidCon, an e-reader is a travel must-have for me. After owning it for nearly two years, I can definitely say the Kobo Libra Colour has bewitched me, body and soul. Don't believe me? I bought this e-reader for myself after reviewing it back in 2024, and my colleague, Samantha Mangino, calls it the best color e-reader on the market. I'm personally a fan of having buttons to change the pages (which none of the Kindle models do), and the shape is the perfect ergonomic fit. And when I'm winding down from a long day and am simply too tired to hold my e-reader, the Kobo remote works perfectly.

While testing tablets, I've learned a few things. Yes, iPads really are that good, but also, Android tablets are vastly underrated. With Prime Day almost here, running June 23 to 26, I'm focused on which tablets will go on sale. Usually, iPads take big price cuts. Plus, I want to see premium Android tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra reach new all-time low prices.

But what's on sale now? Not much. Ahead of Prime Day, we're tracking tablet deals and found some deals to shop ahead of time. These deals are just OK, but if you're eager to shop now, these are the best tablets on sale at the moment.

Everyone knows that Amazon loves to discount its own devices during its Prime Day events. So far, though, the early Prime Day tablet deals are a little thin on the ground, at least where Amazon's Fire Tablet line is concerned. There's one excellent standout right now, and it's the Amazon Fire 7 Kids tablet at 50% off, which is a solid drop on a family-friendly pick anyone could use.

Beyond that, most of what we're seeing on Fire tablets is bundle-based rather than straight markdowns, so the value you'll get per bundle depends on whether you actually want the extras. But you can expect the selection to widen dramatically as we get closer to the main event.

Mashable's team of shopping experts is tracking the best early Prime Day Fire tablet deals as they land. We'll likely see even more pop up in the next week or so, so keep an eye out for additional savings.

Amazon Prime Day is almost here once more, and the retailer has started the savings early for anyone with a Nintendo Switch on their wishlist. Several of our favorite Switch and Switch 2 games and accessories are already discounted ahead of the main event, and you can shop them right now.

The four-day sale doesn't officially begin until June 23, but early deals are live as of June 16. The console itself is the exception, though. The Switch 2 turns one this month and is set for a price increase to $499.99 on September 1 rather than a cut. The real savings you'll find right now are on games and accessories.

If you'd rather not wait, these are some of the best Prime Day Nintendo Switch deals here worth grabbing now. We'll keep this guide updated as the sale gets closer, but for the moment, the best Switch and Switch 2 discounts so far are below.

While technically not a "deal" in the sense that you'll save money for Prime Day, this bundle is a good way to pick up both a Nintendo Switch 2 and the game of your choice out of a decent selection. You get the console itself, Joy-Con controllers, and games like Pokémon Pokopia, Mario Kart World, and Donkey Kong Bananza with the bundle, so you can get started playing right away. With a 7.9-inch LCD touch screen, three play modes, and backwards compatibility with most Nintendo Switch titles, it's well worth picking up, especially given the price hike coming in September.

65-inch TVs on sale for Prime Day: 2026 mini LED TVs at record-low prices and free gifts

You may have not needed a new TV during Black Friday, or even during Amazon's Spring Sale. June through August is the most popular time to move on a TV, so Prime Day is a super convenient time to buy.

If you're not sure what size TV to get, the internet will probably tell you that 65 inches is the most palatable size. That's big enough to be seen from 10 feet away, but not so massive that you'll get a headache in a close-knit living space. A 65-inch TV is also more likely to fit comfortably on the average TV stand than if you bumped up to 75 inches.

Prime Day TV deals are typically so good that you should even be able to snag a 65-inch TV for the typical price of a smaller model. Before Prime Day 2026 officially starts on June 23, I've found more than 10 worthwhile deals on 65-inch TVs already live. Many are 2026 models that just came out in the spring, already on sale at a new record-low price.

Just released in April 2026, the TCL Q8ML is the successor to TCL's popular QM8K TV. The single letter change in the title doesn't quite cover the difference in lighting tech here. The SQD Q8ML series features "super quantum dot mini LEDs," which are essentially an extra-bright version of regular quantum dots that are able to reproduce 100 percent of the BT2020 color spectrum. In dark rooms, the 4,000 local dimming zones packed into the Q8ML provide much sharper contrast than a regular mini LED TV.

If you're curious, you can snag the 65-inch TCL Q8ML for $1,799.99 at Amazon ahead of Prime Day — nearly 30 percent off its debut price of $2,499.99. Your purchase of any TCL SQD TV also unlocks a free 55-inch QLED TV from TCL worth $318.

Amazon gives its own Fire TVs a good amount of attention during Prime Day, of course. Despite the discounts, Amazon Fire TVs typically still aren't the best bang for your buck compared to 4K TVs from other brands. However, the early Prime Day deal on the 65-inch Amazon Ember Artline is actually really good value for money.

Only recently released, the Amazon Ember Artline is Amazon's version of a matte art TV. The big deal here is that the Ember Artline comes with a frame color of your choice: Choose from 10 options including Walnut, Ash, Black Oak, Fig, Graphite, Matte White, Midnight Blue, Pale Gold, Silver, and Teak. (Without paying extra, The Frame locks you into black and the Hisense Canvas locks you into teak.)

Mashable - Tue, 06/23/2026 - 03:51

Amazon’s Prime Day sale is fast approaching, with deals on popular trading cards like MTG and Pokémon already live.

Mashable regularly tracks the best deals from Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon, plus other collectable cards like One Piece and KPop Demon Hunters. And this sale season is no different — we’re expecting more deals to go live as we get closer to Prime Day’s official launch date of June 23.

These are the best early Prime Day trading card deals we’ve found.

This set isn't even out yet, and it's already at its lowest-ever price according to price tracker camelcamelcamel. It's such a good deal (31% at the time of writing) that we could see preorders sell out. We've already seen other discounts disappear due to high demand — so don't miss out.

It comes with 24 Jumpstart Booster packs, which works out at just $4.79 per pack. Each Jumpstart Booster pack contains 20 cards.

We're just a few hours away from one of the biggest shopping events of the year.

This year, Amazon decided to launch into Prime Day a bit early, and we're in for big savings between June 23 and 26. But I've been covering Prime Day deals for nearly five years now, and I can tell you with certainty that those dates are merely suggestions. You can find plenty of great deals before the sale starts, and others that linger on into the days after the sale.

SEE ALSO: Shop the best Nintendo Switch deals ahead of Prime Day 2026

Anyone who's looking for gaming upgrades is likely in for some treats from Amazon. Before the sale starts, I've spotted some excellent gaming deals that are already live. Since I'm not one to enjoy strong mid-day summer sun, you can find me inside gaming until it's time for dinner in the backyard.

If you're shopping ahead of the sale, these are the top gaming deals to grab before Prime Day hits.

Best gaming monitor deal Opens in a new window Credit: Samsung 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G5 $189.99 at Amazon
$329.99 Save $140   Get Deal Why we like it

A gaming monitor has the power to change the whole gaming experience. Go curved, and you'll never go back to a dull, flat screen. Lucky for us, the 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G5 has a 1000R curve, and it's on sale for a massive 42% off ahead of Prime Day, coming in at just under $190 instead of the list price of $329.99. It's also worth noting the 27-inch model is on sale for about $200, which makes the cheaper price on the 32-inch model a fantastic snag.

The Samsung Odyssey G5 comes with game-worthy specs like a 165Hz refresh rate, AMD Radeon FreeSync, and a glare-free display.

Best gaming-worthy TV deal Opens in a new window Credit: TCL TCL 65-inch ClassQM6K QLED TV $527.99 at Amazon
$799.99 Save $272   Get Deal Why we like it

We often think of gaming as an expensive hobby, but it doesn't have to be if gaming items are multi-functional. For example, the 65-inch TCL ClassQM6K QLED TV can serve as your gaming display as well as your TV. Pair this with the sale price of $527.99, and things are looking a lot more realistic, price-wise.

The TCL has a native refresh rate of up to 144Hz for crisp and quick gaming. The refresh rate is also excellent if you're sitting down to enjoy watching World Cup games this summer. TCL has the list price for the 65-inch ClassQM6K QLED TV set at $799.99, but Amazon's early Prime Day sale takes 33% off.

Best Nintendo Switch deal Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Nintendo Switch 2: Choose Your Game Bundle $499 at Amazon
Get Deal Why we like it

This Nintendo Switch 2 bundle may not technically be an actual Prime Day deal, but it's still worth picking up if you're looking to buy the console. Not only do you get the Switch 2 itself as well as a pair of included Joy-Con controllers, but you also get a game of your choice. You can select from titles like Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, and Pokémon Pokopia, which can save you some additional cash. It's cheaper to buy this bundle than the Switch 2 base console and a game, and we can vouch for all three titles as excellent starter games. And if you're going to buy a Switch 2, now's the time to do so: it's raising in price from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1.
