NYT Connections today: Hints and answers for October 10

Connections is the latest New York Times word game that's captured the public's attention. The game is all about finding the "common threads between words." And just like Wordle, Connections resets after midnight and each new set of words gets trickier and trickier—so we've served up some hints and tips to get you over the hurdle.

If you just want to be told today's puzzle, you can jump to the end of this article for October 10's Connections solution. But if you'd rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.

The NYT's latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with helping to create the new word game and bringing it to the publications' Games section. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer.

Prime Day deals you can shop right now

If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

With the announcement of Prime Big Deals Day returning on Oct. 8 and 9, fellow retailers are taking this as a sign to kick off the holiday shopping season. If your eyes just rolled, we're right there with you. Target was among the first to announce its competing event, with the news of Circle Week returning Oct. 6 through 12. The deals are now underway, delivering discounts on Apple, Shark, and more.

Amazon's "October Prime Day" runs just two days on Oct. 8 and 9, but Target is hosting a whole week of deals. Target's last Circle Week ran July 7 through 13, conveniently just before Amazon's July Prime Day. We're sensing a pattern...

Similar to Prime Day, Target Circle Week requires a membership to shop, but unlike Prime, Circle membership is free to join. In a press release, Target says Circle Week will feature deals on fall and holiday favorites as well as everyday essentials. Plus, they're bringing back the Deal of the Day program, an array of one-day-only deals available throughout Circle Week.

Beyond the sales, Target will be offering holiday-exclusive partnerships. The brand is the "premier retail destination for Universal Pictures' Wicked" offering both merchandise and "experiences" around the heavily-anticipated film. NYT Strands hints, answers for October 10

If you're reading this, you're looking for a little help playing Strands, the New York Times' elevated word-search game.

Strands requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There's always a theme linking every solution, along with the "spangram," a special, word or phrase that sums up that day's theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.

This time, it's Prime Big Deal Days, the retailer's members-only "October Prime Day" sale on Oct. 8 and 9, which has brought dramatic price drops across Apple's lineup ahead of a possible M4 refresh.

With Prime Big Deal Days underway, things have gone as expected: Amazon has discounted most MacBooks across the M2 and M3 generations, and two of our favorite models are currently sitting at record-low prices. Prime Big Deal Days (aka Prime Day part two) is in its final day, and we're tracking all the best deals. As in years past, Amazon came through with early price drops on major categories, including Apple Watches, weeks ahead of the big event. And now that the sale is officially underway, prices on Apple smartwatches are dropping even further.

We started seeing price cuts on the Series 9, Ultra 2, and even the brand-new Series 10 last week. Prices on those models have largely remained the same for day two of the sale. That's not a bad thing, of course. A $100 price cut on the Series 9 watches is welcome, and we'll likely see them get phased out after this fall shopping season, making it a good time to pick one up. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE just got an extra $30 price drop in multiple configurations, dropping most models to new record-low prices.

We'll be keeping an eye out for further price drops as Prime Big Deal Days continues. Be sure to check back for updates throughout the sale (and even after since Apple Watch deals often run beyond the official end of Prime Day).

At just one year old, the Series 9 is hardly outdated. It comes with the same 18 hours of battery life as the Series 10 and many of the same fitness features. While you'll get a slightly larger display with the newer Apple Watch and a sleep apnea sensor, you'll save $100 on the Series 9 because it's the "old" Apple Watch.

Both series have the same 2,000-nit max brightness, which Mashable Senior Editor Stan Schroeder said was one of the best reasons to grab the watch. Overall, if you've never bought into the Apple Watch ecosystem and want to save some cash, this Series 9 deal is a decent bang for your buck. If $299 is still out of your ideal price range, the Apple Watch SE makes a great alternative – Amazon price history shows this model is at an all-time low.

Prime Day is here yet again — the bi-annual shopping event (this time known as Prime Big Deal Days) is coming up on Oct. 8 and 9, and Amazon’s already offering discounts on countless products across all categories. One category you might not expect to see a lot of deals on is books, but that's exactly what we're seeing on Amazon's website right now. (Amazon did start as an online bookstore, so it kind of makes sense.)

We’ve found tons of book titles from a wide variety of genres that are currently on sale, from bestselling novels to nonfiction and children's books. Kindle and e-book editions are up to 80% off their typical list prices, while hardcover and paperback books are seeing discounts of up to 50% off.
