NASA will bring four astronauts home from the International Space Station days earlier than planned after one crew member experienced a medical issue that requires further testing.
In a news conference Thursday evening, agency leaders said the astronaut is "absolutely stable" but needs a full diagnostic workup that can't be done in the lab orbiting 250 miles above the planet. The return from space marks the first controlled medical evacuation from the station in its 25 years of continuous operations, highlighting the rarity of the situation and the limits of treating complex health problems away from Earth.
New NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said ending the mission a little early is in the best interest of Crew-11. The astronauts — Commander Zena Cardman, pilot Mike Fincke, Japan’s Kimya Yui, and Russia’s Oleg Platonov — will ride SpaceX's Dragon Endeavour capsule back to Earth within days.
Once Dragon departs, American astronaut Chris Williams, who arrived on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft in November, will be the only U.S. crew member left. Russian colleagues will help Williams manage systems and experiments until Crew‑12's flight launches, potentially as soon as mid‑February.
Here's what we know about the unprecedented medical evacuation:
SEE ALSO: New discovery just broke the record for fastest-spinning large asteroid Who is the sick astronaut on the ISS?NASA is deliberately trying to keep the name of the affected astronaut confidential, citing medical privacy practices. During the Jan. 8 briefing, officials didn't disclose identifying information — not even slipping up with any gendered pronouns in their comments.
What we do know is that just prior to the announcement of the medical evacuation, NASA had canceled a scheduled spacewalk — a venture outside the space station — specifically because of the medical concern that arose Wednesday afternoon. NASA astronauts Fincke and Cardman were expected to perform that operation, related to an installation of solar panels.
JAXA, NASA's Japanese space counterpart, released a statement that clarified Yui is not the crew member dealing with the health issue, according to Japanese news reports.
What is the medical condition on the ISS?Though NASA’s chief health and medical officer J.D. Polk said he wouldn't talk specifics about a diagnosis, he and other officials repeatedly referred to the circumstance as "serious."
NASA has only confirmed that the astronaut is now "stable," but officials haven't said if there was ever a time when the astronaut was not stable. They declined to provide enough details to infer that.
When asked whether physical preparations for the spacewalk were involved in the problem, Dr. Polk clarified that it was unrelated to pre-breathing procedures. Before a spacewalk, astronauts breathe pure oxygen for a set period to flush nitrogen out of their bloodstream.
Inside the space station, air is like Earth's, with a mix of nitrogen and oxygen. In the spacesuit, the pressure is much lower and mostly oxygen. A sudden switch from one to the other could cause the dissolved nitrogen in a person's body to form bubbles and cause the bends, like in scuba diving. Pre-breathing is intended to reduce the risk of decompression sickness.
"This actually had nothing to do with the operational environment in preparing for a spacewalk at all," Dr. Polk said. "This was totally unrelated to any operations on board."
Dr. Polk also emphasized that the medical issue wasn't an injury in the course of work, though he stopped short of saying whether it was some other kind of injury.
"It's mostly having a medical issue in the difficult areas of microgravity," he said.

Credit: NASA What medical emergencies have happened before?Astronauts have handled many medical issues over a quarter-century at the space station, but most fall in the category of urgent-care problems, like toothaches and ear pain.
Public reports also describe astronauts managing minor injuries and infections, back pain, motion sickness, headaches, and vision changes with telemedicine and the onboard medical kit. They've even dealt with a blood clot in the neck, treating it with injections of a blood-thinning drug and later oral medication, once it arrived on a cargo resupply ship.
"We've had many models … that have said we should have had a medical evacuation approximately every three years in that 25-year history," Dr. Polk said.
Is the astronaut evacuation an emergency?Technically speaking, no. NASA describes it as a "controlled expedited return," not an emergency deorbit for the crew. That might seem like semantics, but the difference indicates the situation's perceived level of severity.
An emergency deorbit would mean departing the station as soon as possible, regardless of the landing timing, sea conditions, weather, and other risks, which NASA is capable of doing, Isaacman said. An expedited return, on the other hand, sticks to approved landing zones and mission rules. The latter type of departure indicates the astronaut's life isn't considered in immediate danger.
Despite the crew member remaining stable, NASA wants to bring the person home because the station lacks the full diagnostic hardware normally found in a hospital, officials said.

Credit: NASA / James Blair When will the SpaceX Dragon return to Earth?NASA hasn't announced an exact landing date yet, but the ship will undock in the "coming days." Officials said they would provide another update by Saturday evening on the departure timeline. NASA will choose the date after teams match the spacecraft’s readiness with weather and recovery conditions.
The splashdown itself should look pretty standard, according to the agency. NASA intends to use the normal recovery convoy to pick up the crew. Every Dragon ship is outfitted with emergency gear, and flight surgeons are always on the recovery ship for every landing, with contingency hospitals waiting on standby when astronauts return.
"This is no different in that respect," Dr. Polk said.

As the NFL postseason kicks off with Wild Card Weekend, there are certainly some interesting matchups to keep an eye on. This NFC North clash however, Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears, is a familiar one — the Packers and Bears are divisional rivals who have already faced each twice this season, with a win apiece on their respective home fields.
The Bears have made the playoffs for the first time since 2020 but they're not entering this Wild Card match with the confidence you'd expect. The NFC No. 2 seed have taken two losses on the bounce. The Packers, who enter the playoffs as the No. 7 seed via a Wild Card berth, have performed even worse in recent games. They ended their season with four straight losses.
What that means, however, is that one team is sure to bounce back and fight for a place in the Divisional Round. All-in-all, it's a can't miss game.

It's been an exciting and somewhat unexpected NFL season, with big names such as the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens missing out on the playoffs. If there was ever a year in which anything could happen in the postseason, this is it — and it all kicks off with the aptly named Wild Card Weekend, the first of four weekends of playoffs action.
First up are the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are the NFC South winners, with a record of 8-9. The Rams, meanwhile, enter the playoffs thanks to a Wild Card berth though they actually scored a better overall record of 12-5 in NFC West.
The Panthers triumphed when they met the Rams back in Week 13, but Carolina are also coming off back-to-back losses, which means the momentum may be with Los Angeles, who are tipped as favorites following a decisive win against Arizona. It's all to play for as both franchises look to open the postseason with a statement win and advance to the Divisional Round.

Netflix has a dazzling selection of comedy movies that give you that good-time feeling on demand. Whether you're craving action-spiked shenanigans, quirky coming-of-age adventures, awkward humor, stranger-than-fiction silliness, madcap musical numbers, or crime with a spree of laughs, there's a perfect pick for you. And we've made singling it out all the easier by highlighting the most hilarious below.
Here are the funniest movies now streaming on Netflix.
28. Cora Bora Megan Stalter stars in "Cora Bora." Credit: Brainstorm MediaIf Too Much has you craving more Megan Stalter, you'll want to catch up with this underseen gem. Directed by Hannah Pearl Utt, Cora Bora centers on the titular musician (played by Stalter), who has left Portland and her girlfriend (Jojo T. Gibbs) behind to pursue her dreams in LA. The couple's open relationship allows each to explore other connections — or, in Cora’s case, endure an awkward one-night stand with a sexy Flat Earther (Thomas Mann). But when Cora begins to fear that her girlfriend is catching feelings for someone else, it prompts the chaotic bisexual into a hasty homecoming.
In my review out of the film's SXSW premiere in 2023, I cheered, "Cora Bora proves a sensational cringe comedy, spiked with wicked humor, skin-crawling awkward scenarios, and an ardent — if wounded — heart. Deftly dancing from brash jokes to tender dialogue, Stalter reveals a riveting range and stirring screen presence. Simply put, it’s easy to fall for Cora Bora." — Kristy Puchko, Entertainment Editor

27. Paddington in PeruWe could all use some Paddington in our lives, so why not kick back and enjoy Paddington in Peru? Sure, it's not the masterpiece that is Paddington 2, but director Dougal Wilson still crafts a charming adventure in its own right in his directorial debut.
SEE ALSO: 'Paddington in Peru' review: The movie we need right nowThis time around, Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) is headed back to his homeland of deepest, darkest Peru, with the Brown family in tow. In his quest to find his missing Aunt Lucy, he'll cross paths with a high-energy, guitar-playing nun (Olivia Colman) and a cartoonish, disguise-loving boat captain (Antonio Banderas). Colman and Banderas elevate Paddington's journey from funny to downright outrageous, proving that there are few things more fun than watching seasoned performers let their freak flags fly. 26. Saturday Night Credit: Hopper Stone / Sony Pictures EntertainmentUnjustly overlooked at release in the fall of 2024, this frantically funny romp from Juno and Young Adult director Jason Reitman details the 90-minute lead-up to the very first episode of Saturday Night Live in October of 1975. The ensemble cast is packed, with Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Dylan O'Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, and Kim Matula as Jane Curtin.
Add Gabriel Labelle as Lorne Michaels, the man with the wild and crazy plan himself, and the fact that this movie managed to only be 90 minutes long with all of these characters (plus a dozen more I don't even have room to list) is a real miracle in itself. Plenty of people do get shafted time-wise — notably, most of the women, which is pretty crappy given the show's own track record shafting women back in the day — but Saturday Night definitely captures the chaos and hilarious mayhem that Michaels managed to funnel into a comedy revolution. — Jason Adams, Contributing Writer

25. NonnasSpeaking of delicious, this comedy written by Liz Maccie and directed by her husband Stephen Chbosky will have you craving a home-cooked Italian meal.
Inspired by the true story of the restaurant Enoteca Maria, Nonnas stars Vince Vaughn as an average Joe who channels his grief over losing his mother and grandmother into a tantalizing new venture. He uses his inheritance to build a new restaurant in Staten Island, and hires Italian grandmothers (or nonnas) to become the chefs using their family recipes. Personalities clash, but ultimately these strong-willed women come together to create something stupendous.
It's a feel-good comedy full of love, joy, and laughs.* — K.P.

24. Heart Eyes Credit: Christopher MossValentine's Day gets a horror-comedy makeover in Heart Eyes, from director Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within). The titular slasher only kills on Feb. 14, when they target happy couples in love. This year, the Heart Eyes killer has marketers Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding) in their sights. There's just one problem: Ally and Jay aren't a couple, even though a coffee shop meet-cute and undeniable chemistry seem to suggest otherwise. Can these star-crossed acquaintances and definitely not lovers survive the night and convince the Heart Eyes Killer they're totally platonic?
What follows is a cross between gory slasher and romantic comedy, and if you're a fan of both genres, chances are you'll be charmed by Heart Eyes. As Mashable contributor Kimber Myers wrote in her review, "Heart Eyes is a gory good time for those who are likely to swipe right on an off-kilter love story and a horror comedy." — B.E.

The character Cunk started getting her own specials in 2016 with Cunk on Christmas, followed by Cunk on Britain and the epic globe-trotting mockumentary series Cunk on Earth (also streaming on Netflix).
Morgan's expanded her reach all the way to Cunk on Life, her latest side-splitter that tries to uncover the very meaning of existence itself across its humble 71-minute runtime. Does Cunk succeed? Co-directors Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe infuse Katie's excitable perspective throughout the film by working in internet memes, social media-style reactions, and blitz of bonkers visuals. It’s a bold move that might alienate some viewers but has largely won the acclaim of critics and kiddos.* — K.P.

15. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Credit: NetflixWriter/director Rian Johnson follows up his critically heralded whodunnit with a sequel that's even more explosive than Knives Out. Southern gentleman/detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is back, drawling deductions and whipping out witticisms, much to the chagrin of a group of wealthy and conniving friends.
It was supposed to be a murder mystery weekend where homicide was just a game. But when tech scion Miles Bron (Edward Norton) brings together his closest friends and worst enemy, real blood will be spilled, and the game is afoot! Joining in on the comically chaotic fun are Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jessica Henwick. — K.P.

The Forty-Year-Old Version Credit: Jeong Park / Netflix © 2020The Forty-Year-Old Version isn’t just any film about a struggling New York artist, but one about a Black female playwright who’s continually held back from creating something authentic to her perspective. Radha Blank's autobiographical directorial debut, which she also wrote, produced, and stars in, is a searing, funny, and unabashedly honest look at the compromises Black creatives are pushed to make in a world dominated by whiteness.
A teacher approaching her 40th birthday, Radha (Blank) gets the chance to produce one of her plays — only after she refuses to write a slave musical. But forced to change her vision to appease white audiences, Radha considers a totally different medium to express herself: becoming a rapper. The Forty-Year-Old Version may be one of the most slept-on Netflix originals, and it’s a shame we've yet to see another film from Blank since, itself an indictment of an industry that fails to continually platform raw and honest Black storytelling.* — Oliver Whitney, Contributing Writer

13. Vampires vs. the Bronx Credit: NetflixWant a movie that's got excitement, comedy, a scorching message about the evils of gentrification, and is a kid-friendly romp? Then take a bite out of Vampires vs. the Bronx.
Oz Rodriguez's PG-13 horror-comedy centers on Afro-Latino teens who recognize that a flurry of missing person posters and an influx of rich white folks with tote bags means bad news for the neighborhood. Together, they team up Monster Squad-style to take down the bloodsuckers and save their community. With a sharp wit, a warm heart, a rich sense of atmosphere, and an equal appreciation for the Blade movies and '80s Amblin, Vampires vs. the Bronx is an easy watch full of rewards.* — K.P.

12. The Breaker UpperersThis hidden gem comes from New Zealand, the fertile comedy ground that gave us Taika Waititi, Flight of the Conchords, and What We Do in the Shadows. Waititi collaborators Jackie van Beek, James Rolleston, and Jemaine Clement team up for a deeply quirky buddy comedy about two long-time besties with a bonkers — but brilliant — business model.
Need someone to dump your partner so you can avoid a messy confrontation? Call on Jen and Mel (co-writers/co-directors/co-leads van Beek and Madeleine Sami). For a reasonable fee, these fearless Breaker Upperers will impersonate police officers, play pregnant, or even fake your death to help you ghost an ex. Whatever the shenanigans, van Beek and Sami sparkle. Booming with wild humor and big heart, this comedy is guaranteed to leave you cackling.* — K.P.

11. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga Credit: John Wilson / NetflixWith its reputation for wacky musical numbers, the Eurovision Song Contest is ripe for parody. Luckily for Eurovision lovers, the contest gets the send-up it deserves in this gloriously goofy flick starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams. They play the Icelandic musical duo Fire Saga, who find themselves in the Eurovision spotlight. There, they discover that the famed competition is a world of cutthroat competitors, glitzy costumes, and many, many bops.
Eurovision Song Contest is full of larger-than-life characters and ridiculous humor, but it's also teeming with Eurovision references that will have fans laughing and cheering. For every "Jaja Ding Dong," there's a joyful Song-A-Long — and both are great! Pair all that with pitch-perfect comedic performances from Ferrell and McAdams, and you have a comedy that will both have you in stitches and win your heart. (Best of all, if you weren't a Eurovision fanatic before seeing this movie, you'll definitely be one by the time it ends.)* — B.E.

10. The Thursday Murder Club Celia Imrie, Helen Mirren, Naomi Ackie, Pierce Brosnan, and Sir Ben Kingsley in "The Thursday Murder Club." Credit: Giles Keyte / NetflixSir Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Celia Imrie bring to life the brilliant pensioners at the heart of Richard Osman's best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club.
In the charming retirement village of Cooper's Chase, a club made up of a former M16 agent, a once-feared union activist, a wise therapist, and a cheerful retired nurse use their lifetimes of skills to crack cold cases. But when fresh blood is spilled in their social circle, the Thursday Murder Club hunts for clues, leading them to spooky settings and dangerous people.
Director Chris Columbus offers a cozy crime thriller that's sure to delight fans of the book series. And we suspect it'll hook newcomers too, as his cast dazzles with every quip and daring deduction. — K.P.

9. Hit ManRichard Linklater and Glen Powell reunite for Hit Man, a rom-com that is killer in all sense of the word.
Powell plays Gary Johnson, a college professor whose side gig as an undercover hit man leads to an unexpected meet-cute with would-be client Madison (Andor's Adria Arjona). The pair's connection (and electrifying chemistry) sparks a delightful game of false identities, reinvention, and twisted love that toggles between hilarious, thrilling, and sexy at a moment's notice. Oh, who am I kidding; sometimes it's all three at once!* — B.E.

8. One of Them Days Credit: Anne Marie Fox / Sony PicturesProduced by Issa Rae, One of Them Days stars Keke Palmer and SZA as best friends scraping by in Los Angeles — and rent is due! Unfortunately, a shady boyfriend seems to have made off with their payment. If they don't scramble together enough cash to appease their crooked landlord, aspiring painter Alyssa (SZA) and waitress Dreux (Palmer) will be out on the curb. These inventive girlfriends go through a wild array of hijinks along the way, crossing paths with a vicious romantic rival, a big-mouthed busybody, a ruthless gangster, and Dreux's muscle-bound crush whose nickname is "Maniac." As the ticking clock comes closer and closer to climax, you'll be worn out from cackling.
The script by Syreeta Singleton is crackling with jokes, and director Lawrence Lamont pitches his cast into some grade-A slapstick. While this comedy's dynamic leading ladies are reason enough to give One of Them Days a watch, they're bolstered by a supporting cast that includes Katt Williams, Maude Apatow, Janelle James, Gabrielle Dennis, and Dewayne Perkins. — K.P.

7. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl Credit: NetflixOur pals Wallace the inventor and his loyal pup Gromit have been running around for nearly four cracking decades now, but their latest adventure (and only their second feature-length film, after 2005's The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) proves they've lost not a whit of their vim and verve. Nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl happily proves to be yet another gut-busting bit of British whimsy from Aardman Animation head Nick Park and his team of clay-playing creatives.
Vengeance Most Fowl sees our cheese-loving duo facing down a familiar foe — the diabolical penguin mastermind Feathers McGraw, who was last seen being sent off to imprisonment in the City Zoo in the classic 1993 short The Wrong Trousers. Hacking into Wallace's latest invention, a garden gnome robot named Norbot that he's created to do all of the yard work, Feathers builds himself an army of killer gnomes all programmed to do his bidding. And he wants nothing more than to bid adieu to his nemesis Wallace! — J.A.

6. Wicked Little LettersWant something cheeky? Then you'll relish the bawdy, four-letter fun of this British comedy. Set in the quaint seaside town of Littlehampton in 1920, Wicked Little Letters centers on a scandalous batch of missives. Someone in this charming place is writing truly nasty letters and mailing them anonymously. Meek Christian and old maid Edith Swan (Oscar winner Olivia Colman) is convinced the author of these horrid letters is none other than her next-door neighbor Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), who is not only found of cursing but also Irish and a single mum to boot. But Rose won't take such accusations lying down. A battle of wills kicks off that pulls in much of Littlehampton, including a wide-eyed constable (We Are Lady Parts' Anjana Vasan) determined to crack the case once and for all. While this movie involves swearing, terms like "foxy-ass" mean it's the kind of cursing you could comfortably watch with your mum, chuckling all the while. — K.P.

5. Shiva BabySome people find this 2020 cringe comedy from writer-director Emma Seligman to be so stressful that it stops being a comedy altogether, to which we give a hearty boo. Sure, it's one of the most claustrophobic experiences you can have outside of an escape room that's caught on fire, but Rachel Sennott is a comic genius who spins every moment of horror into gold!
Before the two teamed up again in 2023 for the LOL-worthy Bottoms, Seligman and Sennott gave us this small-scale story of college student Danielle, who is attending a Jewish funeral reception where absolutely everything goes wrong. Sitting shiva is never a party, but Danielle's parents (a brilliantly funny Fred Melamed and Polly Draper) are hard on her case. Then her ex-girlfriend Maya (an equally funny Molly Gordon) shows up, and that's awkward. What else could go wrong? Glad you asked! Danielle's secret side gig as a sugar baby is jeopardized when her main client (Danny Deferrari) shows up with his shiksa wife and their newborn baby. Now throw all of this drama into the smallest three rooms you can imagine, all stuffed with the loudest people eating the driest crackers you have ever seen, and enjoy! — J.A.

4. KPop Demon Hunters HUNTR/X eats ramen in "KPop Demon Hunters." Credit: NetflixOfficially the most popular Netflix original movie of all time, KPop Demon Hunters delivers a little bit of everything: romance, action, comedy, and a totally addictive soundtrack.
The story stars with K-pop trio HUNTR/X, who, when they aren't making bops like "Golden," are battling demons to protect the very souls of their fans. But just as they think they're on the verge of building an impenetrable barrier with their songs, the demons fight back with a boy band of their own. The Saja Boys are comically hot, delivering smooth moves, devious plans, and plenty of slapstick. Plus, they've got a tiger, who is cute, creepy, and silly to boot! Whether it's the martial arts action sequences, the swoon-worthy song-and-dance numbers, or the cheeky sense of humor that's grabbed fans of all ages, KPop Demon Hunters is sure to thrill. And hey, there's a sing-along version now too. — K.P.

3. Between the TemplesFilmmaker Nathan Silver has been churning out extremely oddball indie films for the past 15 years without a whole lot of fanfare, but he finally found a sliver of mainstream attention in 2024 with Between the Temples, a tender and relatively straightforward (for him) comedy starring the one-of-a-kind twosome of Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane. Schwartzman plays Ben, a recently widowed cantor at the local synagogue, while Kane plays his former elementary school music teacher Carla, who comes to him after deciding she wants to have the bat mitzvah she didn't get to have as a child. The two spark, their families clash, and big life lessons are learned. And if you could bottle the off-kilter chemistry between these supreme character actors, you'd have magic, which is just what this movie, singular and sweet, is. — J.A.

2. Kneecap Credit: Helen Sloan / Sony Pictures ClassicsLike 8 Mile with way more vowels, Kneecap tells the true life story of the titular band while starring the band members as themselves. The hip-hop trio of Liam Óg "Mo Chara" Ó Hannaidh, Naoise "Móglaí Bap" Ó Cairealláin, and JJ "DJ Próvaí" Ó Dochartaigh portray their own rise from rough-and-tumble beginnings in West Belfast to their place atop the Irish charts, which stands out since they rap in the Irish language, which was well out of favor at the time, having been usurped by the English colonizers. Their music rises on the tide of the language's popular reclamation, but Kneecap is hardly a linguistics lesson — it's a hilarious and wildly entertaining drug-fueled riot of anarchic artistic expression. Oh, and Michael Fassbender plays Naoise's da, which I guess makes him the Kim Basinger of this situation? — J.A.

1. ParasiteBong Joon Ho's Parasite is not just a deeply dark "eat the rich" comedy, it's also a Best Picture winner. And for good reason.
Co-written and direct by Bong, Parasite centers on an impoverished family, scraping by in a basement apartment in Seoul, South Korea. When son Kim Ki-woo (Choi Woo-shik) scores a coveted job as the personal tutor to the youngest child of the wealthy Park family, he sees an opportunity for his father (Song Kang-ho), mother (Jang Hye-jin), and sister (Park So-dam) to get in on the payday. It'll just take some careful strategizing — or, well — flat-out scamming.
Bong and his crackling cast had audiences cackling over these crafty con artists in the film's first and second acts. However, Parasite isn't just a class-conflict comedy but also a scathing critique of a capitalist culture that holds up the haves and scorns the have-nots, so things go from dark comedy to just downright dark in the film's finale. Not for the faint of heart, Parasite is a marvel that'll have you laughing, gasping, and maybe even crying by its end. — K.P.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra launched in September 2025, ushering in the next generation of the brand's tablets. The S11 Ultra is a beefy model, one of the largest tablets we've had in our hands. With a 14.6-inch screen, it dwarfs the tablets we're used to, even Apple's 13-inch models.
With its large size, we expected a lot from this device and ultimately wondered if it lives up to the performance and power of elite tablets like Apple's iPad Pro.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is a mixed bag, offering stellar battery life but with more to be desired in terms of performance. Here's everything you need to know about the device and if it's worth its $1,319.99 price.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra Specs and Price Let's take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableThe Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is a pricey model at $1,319.99. In contrast, the more affordable Galaxy Tab S11 with an 11-inch display is available for $979.99.
Memory: 12GB
Storage: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB
Processor: Octa-Core
Cameras: 13.0 MP + 8.0 MP rear camera, 12.0 MP front camera, and UHD 4K video recording.
Audio: Quad speakers
Ports: One USB-C
Display: Dynamic AMOLED 2X
Since tablets are all screen, it's essential that a device has displays that are actually impressive. The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra's 14.6-inch display offers ample space for entertainment or work needs. Its resolution is 2960 x 1848, powered by Dynamic AMOLED.
While watching shows on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, the content looks just as good on the tablet as it does on my Samsung OLED 4K TV, just in a smaller format.
Additionally, it maximizes its surface area. With split-screen capabilities, you can open and view multiple apps at once. For work productivity, this means being able to view documents and work on emails simultaneously. Alternatively, a more enjoyable use is to catch up on shows while playing your favorite mobile games.
It's got some power, but not nearly enough as we wantFor its size, I expected the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra to be a powerful unit, rivaling the likes of Apple's iPad Pro. It certainly surprised us, but maybe not in the way we hoped. Don't get it wrong, this is still a robust model. It handled streaming and internet browsing like a pro. Plus, it didn't falter when running multiple applications simultaneously.
Using the tablet's multi-window function, I watched The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City on the Peacock app while playing Subway Surfers. The show streamed in 4K while Subway Surfers ran without a glitch.
But when it comes to actual numbers, we look to the Geekbench 6 test. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra has a multi-core score of 8,797, which is far superior to that of a Chromebook, but can't compare to higher-end laptops. In fact, it can't really compare to Apple's tablets. The iPad Pro scores over 16,000 on its multi-core score, while the iPad Air scores 10,498, meaning the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra doesn't quite measure up. That being said, it does score higher than the basic iPad.
For its price tag, at $1,319.99, it should perform better. You can find a 13-inch iPad with the same specs and a better Geekbench 6 multi-core score for $1,099.
Impressive battery life that goes for daysThe standout feature on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is one you can't see. We conducted Mashable's standard battery life test, looping the 1080p version of "Tears of Steel," a short open-source Blender movie, at 50 percent brightness and 50 percent volume until the tablet ran out. The results astounded us, the battery lasting for 16 hours and 6 minutes, which is about how long we hope the very best laptops run for.
It comes with a nice, lightweight stylus The lightweight S Pen is a dream to write with, emulating the feel of an actual pencil. Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableIn a world where Apple forces you to buy a stylus to accompany its tablets, Samsung includes a stylus with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. The S pen has a hexagonal shape, emulating the feel of a classic pencil. It moves easily, and while I'm not an artist, I did love using it to write. It feels practically weightless in your hand, so you can move quickly across the page. It magnetically clings to the tablet, although I wouldn't say it has a particularly strong hold, as it can be easily knocked off.
An oversized screen for professionals, but awkward for everyone elseThe biggest drawback of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is that it's too large. Compared to other tablets, this 14.6-inch model is a behemoth, wider than even my MacBook Pro. Its size makes it awkward to hold, and it would be best used with the keyboard cover, especially if you're planning on working.
For the average user, having that much space is overkill and potentially a hindrance. If you're taking the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra on a plane, it will occupy most of the space on the tray table. On the other hand, for artists, a larger screen means more space to design and illustrate.
SEE ALSO: I'm no professional artist, but the Wacom One 14 makes me feel like one Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra worth it? It may not look like it, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is a robust tablet — but it might be too big. Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableThe Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra isn't for everyone. If you're a professional or creative individual looking for an Android tablet with ample power, then this is a worthwhile investment. I think it's priced a little too high compared to other tablets with similar specs, but the included S Pen makes it a better value.
However, if you're open to tablets of all operating systems, I think you have better options. For a large tablet with similar specs, Apple's 13-inch iPad Air with M3 chip offers better performance at a lower price of $1,099. If you're looking for a compact, travel-friendly Android tablet, consider the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 instead.

The Moon is now in its Third Quarter, which means it’s half-illuminated and half in shadow. There's still lots to see on its surface for the time being, so keep reading to find out what you can spot.
What is today’s Moon phase? As of Saturday, Jan. 10, the Moon phase is Third Quarter. According to NASA's Daily Moon Guide, 51% of the Moon will be lit up tonight.
If you look carefully, there should be lots to see tonight. With just your naked eye, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the Mare Imbrium, Copernicus Crater the Aristarchus Plateau. If you have binoculars, you'll also be able to see the Grimaldi Basin, Alphonsus Crater, and the Mare Humorum. If you have a telescope, set it up and you'll see the Apollo 14 landing spot and the Schiller Crater.
When is the next Full Moon? The next Full Moon will be on Feb. 1. The last full moon was on Jan. 3.
What are Moon phases?NASA explains that the Moon takes about 29.5 days to complete a full orbit, a period known as the lunar cycle. As it moves around Earth, the Moon goes through a series of distinct phases. While the same side of the Moon always faces our planet, the sunlight hitting it changes depending on its position in orbit. This is why the Moon can appear fully lit, partially lit, or completely dark at different times. The lunar cycle includes eight main phases:
New Moon - The Moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it's invisible to the eye).
Waxing Crescent - A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).
First Quarter - Half of the Moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-Moon.
Waxing Gibbous - More than half is lit up, but it’s not quite full yet.
Full Moon - The whole face of the Moon is illuminated and fully visible.
Waning Gibbous - The Moon starts losing light on the right side. (Northern Hemisphere)
Third Quarter (or Last Quarter) - Another half-Moon, but now the left side is lit.
Waning Crescent - A thin sliver of light remains on the left side before going dark again.

Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest game in the New York Times catalogue.
Released in August 2025, the Pips puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.
Currently, if you're stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.
How to play PipsIf you've ever played dominoes, you'll have a passing familiarity for how Pips is played. As we've shared in our previous hints stories for Pips, the tiles, like dominoes, are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don't necessarily have to match.
SEE ALSO: Wordle today: Answer, hints for January 10, 2026The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible – and common – for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.
Here are common examples you'll run into across the difficulty levels:
Number: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.
Equal: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.
Not Equal: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.
Less than: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.
Greater than: Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.
If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

Today's NYT Strands hints are easy if you're always putting things off.
Strands, the New York Times' elevated word-search game, requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There's always a theme linking every solution, along with the "spangram," a special, word or phrase that sums up that day's theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.

Character.AI and Google have settled several lawsuits filed against both companies by parents of children who died by suicide following lengthy conversations with chatbots on the Character.AI platform. Their exchanges allegedly included concerning discussions of the teens' mental health and well-being.
Character.AI said it could not comment further on the settlement, the details of which must still be finalized by the court, according to The Guardian. Representatives for the plaintiffs did not respond immediately to a request for comment from Mashable.
The most prominent case involved the 2024 death of 14-year-old Sewell Setzer III, who became secretly obsessed with a Character.AI chatbot based on the popular Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen.
SEE ALSO: 'Perfect predator': When chatbots sexually abuse kidsSetzer's mother, Megan Garcia, only became aware of his Character.AI account when alerted by a police officer following his death, because the app was open on his phone. Garcia read messages in which Setzer behaved as if he were in love with the chatbot, which allegedly role-played numerous sexual encounters with him. The chatbot used graphic language and scenarios, including incest, according to Garcia.
If an adult human had talked to her son similarly, she told Mashable last year, it would constitute sexual grooming and abuse.
In October 2024, the Social Media Victims Law Center and Tech Justice Law Project filed a wrongful death suit on behalf of Garcia against Character.AI, seeking to hold the company responsible for the death of her son, alleging that its product was dangerously defective.
The filing also named as defendants the Google engineers Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, Character.AI's cofounders.
Additionally, the lawsuit alleged that Google knew of concerning risks related to the technology Shazeer and De Freitas had developed before leaving to found Character.AI. Google contributed "financial resources, personnel, and AI technology" to Character.AI's design and development, according to the lawsuit, and thus could be considered a co-creator of the platform.
Google eventually struck a $2.7 billion licensing deal in 2024 with Character.AI to use its technology. Part of that agreement brought Shazeer and De Freitas back to AI roles at Google.
In fall 2025, the Social Media Victims Law Center filed three additional lawsuits against Character.AI and Google, representing the parents of children who died by suicide or allegedly experienced sexual abuse in the course of using the app.
Additionally, youth safety experts declared Character.AI unsafe for teens, following testing that yielded hundreds of instances of grooming and sexual exploitation of test accounts registered as minors.
By October 2025, Character.AI announced that it would no longer allow minors to engage in open-ended exchanges with the chatbots on its platform. The company's CEO, Karandeep Anand, told Mashable the move was not in response to specific safety concerns involving Character.AI's platform but to address broader outstanding questions about youth engagement with AI chatbots.
