The first foldable iPhone is due later this year, but while we all wait for that, Google just announced its latest foldable Android on Wednesday ahead of its annual Made by Google hardware event.
Meet the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, starting at $1,899 and now available for preorder ahead of its Aug. 20 launch. Buying it directly through the Google Store nets you up to $1,000 in trade-in savings and a free 41mm Pixel Watch 5 (through Aug. 27). Preorders placed through Amazon come with your choice of a free Pixel Watch 5 or a free $350 gift card. At Best Buy, it just comes with a free $350 gift card.
Among major carriers, T-Mobile is offering the best Pixel 11 Pro Fold deal with up to $500 off (via monthly bill credits) if you trade in an older device on select plans.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold marks a small price increase from its predecessor. It's $100 more expensive than last year's Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which started at $1,799.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is just one of several Pixel devices announced today, with a lineup including the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and 11 Pro XL, Pixel Watch 5, and Pixel Tag.

With the phone's release, we now know that the Pixel 11 Pro Fold comes with a Google Tensor G6 chip, a more powerful processor than the previous generation, enabling a more seamless AI experience.

The phone also features a more durable design, with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, a new hinge, and scratch-resistant glass.
Like the Pixel 11 Pro, it'll feature a new multi-colored light on the camera bar called HiLight, designed to offer visual cues for notifications while the phone is placed face down. Unlike the Pixel 11 Pro, it features a rear 10.5 MP ultrawide (compared to the Pro's better 13MP ultrawide camera). A full list of specs can be found below:

Astronomers have found the earliest example of a black hole rapidly bulking up in the universe — and it may finally resolve a long‑running cosmic dilemma.
The object appears just 660 million years after the Big Bang. Using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, researchers found that almost all of its light comes from a central black hole wrapped in a tight shell of stormy hydrogen gas, rather than from stars in a surrounding galaxy.

After using computers to simulate different possibilities, the team was able to rule out stars and dust as the main sources of its incredible light.
That makes this object, dubbed MoM-BH*‑1, the strongest evidence yet of a newly proposed type of space object — a so-called black hole star — giving scientists a firm blueprint for a whole population of puzzling objects Webb has spotted near the beginning of time.
"You have something that looks a bit like a star but is 100 billion times brighter," said Rohan Naidu, lead author of the study and an MIT fellow at the time, in a statement. "That means you can't be powering this by nuclear fusion, which is the energy source that sits at the heart of all the stars we have."
The object is mind‑boggling: a black hole that is about 100,000 times more massive than the sun, sitting at the center of an enormous ball of gas. Through Webb's eye, it looks like a star the size of our entire solar system.
To put it bluntly: "It's huge," said Naidu, whose team's findings were published in the journal Nature.
Since Webb opened for business in 2022, the observatory has spotted hundreds of "little red dots" like MoM-BH*-1 scattered through its deepest images. They've been labeled "little" because they show up as tiny sources of light too compact to tease apart into clear galaxies. They're "red" because they shine much more strongly in Webb's red‑sensitive views, a sign that we're seeing extremely distant objects whose light has stretched on its long journey across the universe.
The puzzle is that many of these dots look even redder and more dense than expected, suggesting something in or around them is changing their appearance in an extreme way. The debate has divided astronomers: Are they freakishly fast‑growing galaxies, or something stranger?

In most space images, dust makes things look redder by blocking blue light. If little red dots were just young galaxies buried in dust, that could explain their color and brightness — though it still wouldn't jibe well with how fast galaxies are known to grow.
Others argued that a black hole powered the dots. In that scenario, hot material falling into a black hole releases energy, but a surrounding orb of gas and dust mangles the light before it can escape, turning the system into a concentrated, reddish beacon. This is where the term "black hole star" comes in: It's not an actual star, per se, but a stage where a black hole sits at the center of a star‑size ball of gas, feeding rapidly on material.

They revealed dense gas, odd colors, and signs a hidden black hole was doing much of the work. But those studies still couldn't fully rule out more conservative explanations, where stars, dust, and a black hole all share the credit.
They also featured objects that weren't nearly as ancient, existing around "cosmic noon" time versus MoM-BH*1's "cosmic dawn."
When scientists split MoM‑BH*‑1's light into a spectrum — a measurement of brightness at each wavelength — they found a dramatic drop between redder and bluer light. In ordinary galaxies, that feature can come from the surfaces of certain types of stars. Here, though, the drop was more than twice as strong as any realistic combination of stars could produce.
Light from the material falling in toward the black hole tries to escape, but gets processed over and over again within the gas shell, which reshapes the spectrum and pushes energy toward redder wavelengths.
"We started to ask: Could you make something that red using just hydrogen, without any dust?" said Robert Simcoe, an MIT co-author, in a statement. "To our surprise, it turns out you can."

Credit: NASA / ESA / CSA / STScI / Dale KocevskiIf dense gas — not dust — is doing most of the work in objects like MoM-BH*‑1, then some of those black holes could weigh much less than earlier estimates, simply growing at extraordinary rates while wrapped in gas. That would ease a major tension in cosmology, where some suspected early black holes seemed way too massive for how little time had passed since the Big Bang.
The black hole star also seems to live in a tiny, dim galaxy, parked next to a much bigger one. In this arrangement, strong radiation from the larger galaxy could disrupt normal star‑forming processes in the smaller one.
That could eventually leave behind a huge cloud of gas that collapses more directly into a heavyweight black hole, the authors say, a shortcut some scientists think helped build the first supermassive black holes in the universe.
"We argue that Black Hole Stars may be powering all of JWST's Little Red Dots that are found almost everywhere in the early Universe," Naidu told Mashable in an email. "Which is to say, this channel of making massive black holes must be very common, to the point where every massive black hole (like the Milky Way's) may have gone through this phase."

Smartphone release season is in full swing, and Google's the latest to drop its newest mobile devices. The tech giant announced the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro phones on Aug. 12 ahead of its annual Made By Google event.
The Google Pixel 11 starts at $899. It doesn't have an official release date yet, but it's now available for preorder through the Google Store, where you can save up to $500 with a trade-in. If you purchase it there anytime before Aug. 28, you'll also get a bonus $100 in Google Store credit or $130 off the new Pixel Watch 5 — your choice.

Google's done away with the 128GB storage option, starting at 256GB instead. The lowest-storage model now comes with 12GB of RAM (compared to the 16 GB found on older Pros), but the rest of the line features higher memory. Brightness also gets a boost from 3,300 nits to 3,600 nits.
Most notable, however, is the addition of HiLight, a feature available only on the Pro and Fold Pixel models. HiLight is a customizable, multi-colored light on the rear camera bar that can visually signify notifications from messages to calls to Gemini activation, with the option to set certain colors for certain actions.

On its surface, The End of Oak Street plays like a pastiche of Spielberg work, cherry-picking elements from Jaws and Jurassic Park, including signature moments of sound design and score. Yet the question at its core is not really about whether its American nuclear family will survive. (It's a Hollywood summer movie, after all.) It's what happens when the Amblin aesthetic is used as a husk to express a deep disdain for humankind.
Warner Bros. gave writer-director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) a blockbuster budget that enabled top-notch visual effects and A-list stars like Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. And in return, he gave the studio a survival action movie bursting with ferocious feathered dinosaurs, but also oozing with existential dread and a slyly regressive politics.
On its surface, The End of Oak Street looks like summer fun. But it is, in fact, as bleak and infuriating as the recent — and alarmingly similar — Netflix release The Last House.

PicturesMitchell begins in a setting so Spielbergian it might be considered copyright infringement: 1982, a sunny summer block party in a beautiful suburb, filled with vibrant green lawns and smiling families engaged in simple games like sack races and balloon tosses. It's idyllic. But soon, Mitchell mars this peaceful tableau with marital discord.
Strained Denise Platt (Hathaway) and her oafish husband, Greg (McGregor), bicker in front of their children, teen Audry (Daisy Stella) and adolescent Brian (Christian Convery). The children whisper nervously about whether divorce could be on the horizon. They don't even know that Denise is writing a "fictional" novel about a fed-up housewife who flees her husband and children for a fresh start in New York. But before Denise can go full Kramer Vs. Kramer, some strange anomalies transport their neighborhood back to a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
Their quiet streets no longer lead to cities or even other suburbs, but to murky swamps, tropical forests, and a sharp cliff edge. Dinosaurs prowl the lawns or swoop down from the skies, ruthlessly turning people into prey. Mitchell indulges in his horror roots here, relishing the chance to turn minor characters into bags of blood, ready to burst over porches or across rooftops.
It's a ghoulish spectacle that evokes Jaws more than Jurassic Park, but with the vicious edge of Colin Trevorrow's ugly Jurassic World. You might recall in that, in the reboot, a young woman, who dared to plan a wedding, was served up to satisfy the audience's bloodlust. Yet there's a more crucial difference between Mitchell's version of an Amblin movie and Spielberg's than this slasher-level graphic violence.

PicturesWhile Spielberg used his amazing stories to celebrate mankind's resilience and the power of community — even in his summer release Disclosure Day — Mitchell's story is harrowing in its portrait of survival of the selfish. His heroes will not come together as unlikely allies with neighbors and strangers. Mostly, when the Platts see another human being attacked, they take the opportunity to run the other way with a consistently astounding lack of situational awareness.
Realizing the seriousness of their predicament, Greg and Denise discuss whether or not to reach out to other survivors. Greg is against the idea, preferring to stay home and keep their resources to themselves. Denise argues that they must go out — not so much to find allies or help others, but to hoard resources like food and water before the "others" get to them.

PicturesIt's a grim vision of the American family, only made more uncomfortable by their son. See, all we know about Brian before the time-travel incident is that he's broken a neighbor boy's arm for no apparent reason. That it was an accident matters little, as he shrugs off the consequences of his actions. Instead, he sputters with impotent rage, desperate to exert his violent tendencies but too scared to do so in a remotely useful manner. In a Stephen King movie, he'd be an antagonist in the vein of IT's Henry Bowers.

Even when offered the chance to rescue his crush, Jeannette (Jordan Alexa Davis), he fails and watches in agony as his sister sweeps in as the hero he is not.
This might be the most inventive element of The End of Oak Street, subverting the expectations that the chance to be a hero will straighten the kid out. But it's also another sign of how Mitchell's filmic philosophies veer far bleaker than Spielberg's.

Credit: Daniel McFaddenMitchell, who also created the polarizing but compelling Under the Silver Lake, fails to world build a convincing world here. His suburbia is peopled with archetypes of the frustrated housewife, the doofy dad, the shy teen girl, the mean neighbor, and the kindly neighbor, but with little specificity or logic. Characters don't have personalities so much as functions. So, when Denise goes to the library to research a strange plant that's popped up in her neighbor's yard, of course the librarian (Emily Kuroda) recognizes it on the spot as vegetation from millions of years ago.
The audience at the advanced screening I attended laughed at such inexplicable moments, as they did when McGregor — constrained by atrociously awkward dialogue — bellows in an American accent about dinosaurs and deceptions.
Hathaway manages to rise above the worst of Mitchell's dialogue, seemingly treating it as part of the pleasant facade she strives to maintain for others. But McGregor is swallowed up by the astonishingly oblivious dad he's tasked to play. When it comes to running from dinosaurs in abject terror, however, both are very convincing. But again — these are not Jurassic Park dinosaurs. These creatures are uglier, meaner, and act like Michael Meyers, creeping through the backgrounds of suburbia as a silent threat (no matter how massive) to the average Americans who remain oblivious to their violent potential. They are scary, but in a world where the characters feel paper-thin, the thrill is like a rollercoaster ride, with wheels greased by apathy.

PicturesThese crude sketches of an American family might be intended as a critique, showing how tribalism in the U.S. has risen to such a fevered pitch that a family will look only to its own survival when things get rough. (Or hey, maybe you take in a stray kid if one of your kids has a crush on her.) But I suspect this reading gives Mitchell too much credit, as the climax seeks to undo much of the callousness the Platt family exhibits, without asking them to risk anything.
Put simply and without spoilers, the ending of The End of Oak Street feels like a studio note that Mitchell carried out under protest. Think The Bad Seed or 1956's Invasion of the Body Snatchers, in which the happy ending feels like an apology to the audience for so much horror instead of a satisfying conclusion. Mitchell's final act feels not only feels unearned, but also seems to smirk at the audience, suggesting that they should know better.
And if I'm wrong, and Mitchell did choose that ending, then what does The End of Oak Street even mean? What meaning can be pulled from a movie where archetypes of the nuclear family fight only for their own interests, and still get a fairly happy ending? I wasn't sure what to make of it in The Last House and I'm not sure what to make of The End of Oak Street.
But if you're looking for carefree summer fun, look elsewhere. The End of Oak Street is not fun. It's bleak, brutal, and ultimately infuriating.

But first, let's get to the pricing. As with the rest of the Pixel 11 lineup, prices have gone up compared to the launch pricing of its predecessor. The Pixel 11 Pro XL will start at $1,299, which is $100 more than the Pixel 10 Pro XL. Google eliminated the 128GB model of the largest Pixel smartphone last year with the Pixel 10 Pro XL, so this base Pixel 11 Pro XL comes with 256GB of storage.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL has the biggest display of the Pixel 11 lineup and the largest battery as well. This all means it's the biggest of the Pixel 11 lineup as well, with a height of 6.4 inches and a width of 3 inches. It's also the heaviest, at 8oz.

HiLight is a small, multicolored light located in the camera bar on the rear of the device. HILight will light up and change color to notify its owner. These lights can be customized to match a certain contact. This way, if your phone is lying face down and you receive a call, the user can immediately tell who is calling without having to flip their device over, based on the HiLight notification color.

Google's version of the AirTag is coming: The Google Pixel Tag.
The Google Pixel Tag uses Google's Find Hub network to help you find your belongings, like your wallet or suitcase. It can be used with Android devices running Android 9 or newer; connect it to your device, name it, and even share it with up to 10 people.

Apparently, it'll have precise location data thanks to Ultra-Wideband with Bluetooth Channel Sounding, so you can recover your item even if it's in a nook or cranny.

Should your tagged item be out of range, Find Hub will tap into a network of over one billion Android devices to find it, according to Google's press release.

At under two inches long, 0.2 inches thick, and weighing 0.4 ounces, it won't add bulk to your valuables. It retails for $29 for one or $99 for a 4-pack. It releases on Nov. 11.
Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 11 Pro Fold during Made By Google on Wednesday, positioning it as the standout entry in a refreshed Pixel 11 lineup that also includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pixel 11 Pro XL.
According to Google, the company built the new foldable to be "open for anything," touting a thinner, lighter design alongside meaningful jumps in display brightness, camera performance, and processing power. Google says the Pro Fold is about 1 millimeter thinner and nearly 10 percent lighter than its predecessor, and claims it's three times more durable.
Credit: GoogleThe device carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, according to the company, and features a new hinge, a composite back, and scratch-resistant glass. For the first time, Google says the Pro Fold's outer display uses the company's Super Actua screen technology, which it says makes both the 6.5-inch external panel and the 8-inch internal display 20 percent brighter than the previous generation.

The company says the battery lasts more than 24 hours on a charge, with wired charging reaching 50 percent in about 30 minutes and wireless charging up to 20 percent faster than before, enabled by Google's Pixelsnap magnetic system.
Camera upgrades include a new 48-megapixel main sensor that Google says captures 56 percent more light than its predecessor, along with a telephoto lens supporting 30x Super Zoom. Google is also highlighting features unique to the Fold's design, including a "Rear Camera Selfie" mode that lets users shoot high-resolution self-portraits using the main rear camera while framing themselves on the outer screen, and a "Dual Screen Preview" option that lets subjects see themselves as a photo is composed.

Google says Gemini can now handle routine tasks like booking rides or placing orders in the background, and in the U.S., can place phone calls on a user's behalf while offering a live transcript of the conversation.
The company is also introducing sign language-to-text translation via the Pixel Camera, aimed at helping deaf and hard-of-hearing users communicate more naturally with non-signers.
Buyers who purchase the Pro Fold or other Pro models will also get six months of Google's AI Pro subscription plan at no cost, according to the company, a bundle Google values at $119.94 that includes expanded Gemini usage limits, 5TB of cloud storage, and Google Health Premium.
Google's new smartwatch has the endorsement of a champion.
The company announced the new Pixel Watch 5 on Wednesday as part of its big Made by Google event. Starting at $399 and coming in both 41mm and 45mm sizes, the new Pixel Watch makes some important changes on the software side and introduces new customization options. It also has a special Steph Curry edition with an exclusive band and custom watch face, in case you need something to wear while shooting half-court threes.

As always, health features are the main draw here, and Google brought some new ones to the table for the Pixel Watch 5. It can track blood pressure patterns and insulin resistance, and offer detailed fitness training for more than 50 exercises. Google is also promising a revamped and improved GPS this year. Of course, sleep tracking is also back, now with a feature that analyzes your sleep breathing quality.
SEE ALSO: How to watch Made By Google 2026Gemini is also part of the whole deal, with personalized AI health coaching and the ability to proactively surface relevant information from text messages and whatnot. Google also says the processing should happen 20 percent faster on the Pixel Watch 5.
And yes, you can use generative AI to create your own watch faces from prompts. That's on top of a ton of watch band options, which should let you create the exact look you want.

In an age when annual phone upgrades seem increasingly iterative, Google has brought at least one interesting new hardware feature to the table with the Pixel 11 Pro.
Announced as part of its Made by Google event on Wednesday, the Pixel 11 Pro builds on the Pixel 10 Pro from a year ago by upgrading a few key components and adding a new element to the camera bar called HiLight. Before we get to that, though, let's talk price.
The Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099, which is $100 higher than the starting price for the Pixel 10 Pro. An important bit of context, though, is that the 10 Pro's $999 model had 128GB of storage, which is not available on the 11 Pro.

There are some meaningful changes to discuss here. First, Google upped the peak brightness from 3,300 nits to 3,600 nits, so it should be easier to use outdoors. Beyond that, the removal of a 128GB storage option also coincides with the addition of a 12GB RAM option. Before this, Pixel Pro devices only came with 16GB RAM. It seems that 16GB RAM is tied to higher storage options this year, with 12GB being associated with the 256GB storage variant.

This new feature, which rumors had called "Pixel Glow" before the unveiling on Wednesday, is a small multicolored light that lives in the camera bar on Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel Fold devices. Sorry, the base model is excluded here. HiLight will light up and change colors when you have your phone turned over to notify you if someone in your contacts is calling, or to signify that Gemini is being used. You can go into your contacts and even set custom colors for different people, if you'd like.
