If you’ve been wanting to upgrade your aerial photography setup, this week might be a great chance to do so. Amazon has DJI’s Mini 5 Pro on sale for almost a third off its list price, which is a pretty good deal. The Mini 5 Pro is an excellent sidekick for outdoor adventurers, aerial photography hobbyists, and professionals who want a compact, portable device.

The drone is palm-sized when folded and fits easily into a pocket. This model comes replete with 42GB of internal storage, so you can film your adventure or venture entirely uninterrupted. Its portability and compactness do not compromise its ability to capture high-quality video, either. As previously mentioned, the drone records 4k footage with a 60fps (frames per second) frame rate. DJI claims this drone will render your content in crisp, clear, highly defined detail.

The drone also comes with the DJI RC 2 (the remote control) that has a large screen in the center to see what you’re filming in real time.

TCL releases RayNeo Air 4 Pro AR smart glasses for $299: Save $50 at launch

TCL has finally released its RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses, alongside two limited-edition Batman-themed models. These AR glasses are the world's first smart glasses with an HDR display, and they're designed for watching movies and playing video games. While most smart glasses are priced at $500 or more, the new RayNeo AR glasses are priced at $299, which could shake up this emerging market.

On top of that, early buyers can also save $50 when they purchase the glasses from TCL or Amazon, bringing the price to $249 for a limited time.

When TCL showed off its RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses at CES 2026, I was impressed, and I wrote at the time that competitors like Xreal should be worried. Despite the relatively affordable price tag, the glasses have super-bright OLED displays that support HDR10, something never seen before in smart glasses. TCL describes them as "head-mounted TVs," and that's what they feel like.

I've been testing the glasses over the past few weeks, and overall, I'm still impressed, despite their quirks. Like other AR glasses, you connect them to a compatible laptop, smartphone, or gaming device via the included USB-C cable.

The RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses launched today. The base version is priced at $299, but TCL also released two limited-edition, Batman versions of the glasses, the Limited Justice and Limited Chaos Editions. The Batman glasses come with additional accessories like a Batman cowl that attaches to the frames; they have an MSRP of $319, though they're also discounted at launch to $269.

The RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses have an impressive list of specs. While they're priced like a pair of budget smart glasses, they have a premium display.

  • Style: Augmented reality smart glasses

  • Display: 0.6-inch micro-OLED display

  • Screen size: 201 inches

  • Brightness: Up to 1,200 nits

  • Resolution: 1920x1080 (3840x1080 for 3D)

  • Refresh rate: Up to 120 Hz

  • Color accuracy: ΔE

  • Sound: Bang & Olufsen surround sound (4 speakers)

Using a Vision 4000 processor and dual OLED displays, the Air 4 Pro glasses can create a virtual screen up to 201 inches in size. I wore them to watch Mad Max: Fury Road and The Hobbit (not to mention countless YouTube videos), and the display is gorgeous, though it has some problems, too. As I noted in my initial review, the display has a flickering problem and lacks the 3D features Xreal recently introduced.

SEE ALSO: These color-changing sunglasses are like something out of a sci-fi movie Are the RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses worth it? These AR/XR glasses have a huge price advantage over their rivals. Credit: TCL

If you're an early adopter looking to try out AR glasses, it's hard to argue with the $299 price tag. For reference, Xreal recently launched a more affordable version of its glasses called the Xreal 1S, priced at $449.

There's no doubt that the RayNeo Air 4 Pro smart glasses have a better display. The Xreal 1S has a peak brightness of 700 nits, compared to 1,200 with the RayNeo. In addition, the micro-OLED displays on the Air 4 Pro are noticeably more vibrant, ideal for watching movies and gaming.

However, before you get too excited, Xreal glasses still have some big advantages. First off, Xreal can project much larger virtual screens. You can also control the screen distance and angle for optimum viewing, and set the display to anchor in a specific spot in your eyeline or move with your head. There's no anchor feature with the RayNeo glasses.

If you're looking for AR glasses that can be used as a productivity tool, giving you an extra screen while you work, then Xreal is by far the better choice. But for entertainment, the Air 4 Pros are going to be hard to beat, especially for the price. If money is no object, then check out the ROG Xreal R1 AR Gaming Glasses.

A radio telescope just took this giant picture of the Milky Ways core

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 05:00

Gas streams gush into the Milky Way's center and pile up into thick clouds, but for some reason, those ingredients don't materialize into as many stars as astronomers would expect.

An international team has mapped nearly the entire 650 light-year span of the galaxy's core to try to figure out why. Using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile, the researchers took the most detailed image of its kind — and the facility's largest mosaic picture to date. The effort, called the ALMA Central Molecular Zone Exploration Survey, traces the cold gas and dust that fuel star birth in space.

The survey targets the so-called Central Molecular Zone, which contains tens of millions of times the sun's mass in dense material, surrounding the supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*. The region runs warmer and far more chaotic than most of the Milky Way's disk. By standard estimates, that much dense gas should produce stars at a steady pace. Instead, the region forms them about 10 times slower than predicted.

That mismatch has puzzled astronomers for years. Getting answers would inform how researchers understand galaxies more broadly, and the heart of the Milky Way offers the only galactic center close enough for this type of intricate study.

"It's a place of extremes, invisible to our eyes, but now revealed in extraordinary detail," said Ashley Barnes, a European Southern Observatory astronomer who helped obtain the new data, in a statement.

SEE ALSO: NASA no longer plans to land on the moon in the next Artemis mission

The researchers' findings are laid out in five papers accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, with a sixth on the way.

The new survey stands out because prior ones forced a tradeoff. Some covered wide areas but blurred the small structures that matter most. Others zoomed in on a handful of clouds but lost sight of how those clouds connect to the bigger picture.

But the ALMA survey, called ACES for short, accomplishes both in one fell swoop. It reveals structures small enough to pinpoint dense clumps that could host developing stars — while still spanning almost the entire star-forming gas supply in the core.

The team also measured more than 70 chemical fingerprints in the gas, such as silicon monoxide, methanol, and acetone. Each responds to different physical conditions, so by comparing them, researchers can assess density, temperature, and motion, and identify where shocks ripple through clouds or where young stars add energy.

Those measurements allow scientists to trace how gas flows inward, where it bunches up, and where it finally collapses into stars. Or, where it fails to.

"The [core] hosts some of the most massive stars known in our galaxy, many of which live fast and die young," said ACES leader Steve Longmore, an astrophysics professor at Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, in a statement.

Several ALMA antennas in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile point toward the central regions of the Milky Way above. Credit: ESO / B. Tafreshi

Some of those enormous stars end their lives in hypernovas, sometimes called super-supernovas, Longmore said, releasing more than 10 times the energy of a normal supernova. Those colossal star explosions usually collapse into black holes and are thought to produce long gamma-ray bursts, the universe's most powerful explosions.

Don’t miss out on our latest stories: Add Mashable as a trusted news source in Google.

The researchers paired the observations with computer simulations that follow gas as it streams along the galactic bar, forms clouds, and reacts to radiation and explosions. They turn those simulations into mockups and compare them directly with the survey data to test which scenarios best match what they actually see.

Armed with the full data, the team will now probe where star formation switches on and off along the gas stream, whether certain orbital points trigger collapse, and how gravity and other factors compete to control the rate of star birth.

"We believe the region shares many features with galaxies in the early universe," Longmore said, "where stars were forming in chaotic, extreme environments."

Heel review: Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough reveal a twisted tale of parenting gone wrong

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 05:00

Beware: This English thriller brings dark humor to a setup that is absolutely the stuff of trashy true crime shows.

Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough star as a married couple who, at a distance, might seem to have a blissful life in rural England. On their remote estate, a strong metal gate keeps the mad modern world at bay. Their big home has room enough for a master bedroom with a towering canopy bed, space for their young and lovely son nicknamed "Sunshine," a guest room for a live-in maid, and a roomy basement, perfect for doing laundry and crafting special projects. However, what former cop Chris and his fragile wife Kathryn are working on in the basement is anything but charming.

SEE ALSO: Stephen Graham gives emotional acceptance speech for best actor at 2025 Emmys

Helmed by Polish filmmaker Jan Komasa, Heel has plot points in common with Pedro Almodóvar's disturbing psychological thriller The Skin I Live In, with the comedic cheek of a midnight movie. The result is something gnarly, but not quite great.

Wait, what's Heel about?

As teased in the film's first promo image (up top), Heel follows the rehabilitation efforts Chris and his family inflict on Tommy (Anson Boon), a 19-year-old hooligan who's been exposing his reckless exploits on social media with no apparent consequence.

Before we meet Chris' cozy and unconventional family, Heel thrusts us into Tommy's chaotic lifestyle. Across a night of partying, the blonde party boy indulges in clubs, drugs, public sex, and violence with a devil-may-care attitude that's less exhilarating and more nauseating. As he limps home, wobbly from embracing damn near every vice, a car lurks behind him, and someone dashes out to grab him.

From there, Heel leaps to another figure who'll fall into this family's realm. An immigrant from Macedonia, Rina (Monika Frajczyk) is considering taking a cleaning job at Chris' home, even though his questions for her include whether or not she has any "distinguishing marks."

A flash in her eyes acknowledges this red flag, but her willingness to brush over it suggests she's got little other choice. From the moment she arrives at Chris and Kathryn's home, she becomes the audience surrogate, guiding us through the house and its more curious aspects, like the boy chained up by his neck in the basement.

Don’t miss out on our latest stories: Add Mashable as a trusted news source in Google.

Anson Boon is fascinating as the central bad boy.

There's a trace of Trainspotting in Tommy, specifically his "choose life" attitude that embraces debauchery over civility. Though chained up like a bad dog, he won't make it easy on his captors. Where Rina could be an ally, he's quick to spook her, which sparks a stern talking to from Chris.

Who Tommy is to Chris and Kathryn is not immediately made clear. Their mission, however, is to break the boy until he's "good." Their methods range from the horrific to the comical. Sometimes Tommy's training involves watching videos about good etiquette created by Chris and his Sunshine (Kit Rakusen). Other times, violent means like a stun gun are brought into play. Acting as if he's being electrocuted is just the edge of the physicality demanded by Boon's role. And he gives every moment a feral intensity.

As the family grows to trust in Tommy's slow but steady progress, they begin to literally lengthen his leash. This means Boon is sometimes battling the bondage, and other times finding ways to make it work for him. There's an alertness to his eyes that reveals he's not yet broken, even when he's playing nice to appease his captors. Tommy is ferociously alive, and through this, he influences all in the house to embrace something wild in themselves, be it rediscovering their sex drive, their joy, or their curiosity of a world beyond the gates.

Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough make an odd couple forged in hell.

Graham is a fantastic bit of casting, as the English actor has played an array of tough guys in productions like Gangs of New York, This Is England, Public Enemies, and A Thousand Blows. More recently, however, he wowed critics and audiences by playing the heartbroken and volatile father in Netflix's harrowing crime mini-series Adolescence. Now, in Heel, Graham is doggedly gentle — until he's not.

Chris certainly prefers the carrot to the stick when it comes to discipline. But the very casting of Graham warns the audience that wielding the stick is inevitable. This threat of violence is echoed in the trembling eyes of his son, whose cheerfulness can snap to terror like a light switch. What's happened in this house before Tommy's arrival may not be spoken, but through the interactions of father and son, it's clear enough.

Yet Riseborough's role is even more unnerving. At the film's start, she has a boy in her basement and a young woman cleaning her family's mess while she stares out a window, silent and dressed like a Victorian ghost in long, silky white nightgowns. But as Tommy progresses, she blooms like belladonna, donning more modern attire, speaking up, and even delivering her own brand of parenting in soft but stinging tones.

So, none of this sounds all that funny, right? Well, Heel's sense of humor is determinedly dark. Its laughs come mostly from where the absurdity of Chris' plan collides with Tommy's no-fucks-to-give attitude. On the whole, the film's more funny as in strange than funny as in humorous.

This becomes a bit of an issue as Komasa approaches the film's wild resolution. The ending, while properly disturbing, feels frustratingly unearned, perhaps because the restrained approach to its visual style doesn't support such an outrageous outcome.

The wardrobe and look of the family and their house are tweaked slightly from standard to seem almost a caricature of a happy family. Chris' hair is meticulously combed, his shirt buttoned, jeans pressed, glasses unsmudged, even as he's just directing the delinquent in his basement. Kathryn's attire, meanwhile, gives a sense of Grey Gardens without the funky whiff of decay. Subtle visual clues hint that this family is freaky. But if Komasa had pushed their strangeness more in visuals, his twisted ending might have felt better suited, instead of a bit of a cheat.

Still, if you're seeking funky and fucked-up entertainment, Heel should scratch that late-night movie itch.

Heel opens in theaters and on demand on March 6.

UPDATE: Jan. 12, 2026, 3:48 p.m. "Heel" was reviewed out of its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. At the time, the film was called "Good Boy." This review has been republished with the updated title and release information.

Moon phase today: What the Moon will look like on March 4

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 04:37

Now that the Full Moon has passed, from our point of view the Moon will appear smaller each night. This is because e have entered the waning part of the lunar cycle.

What is today’s Moon phase?

As of Wednesday, March 4, the Moon phase is Waning Gibbous . According to NASA's Daily Moon Guide, 99% of the Moon will be lit up tonight.

With just your naked eye tonight you can see the Aristarchus Plateau, Copernicus Crater, and the Mare Serenitatis. If you have binoculars, you should also catch a glimpse of the Mare Nectaris, Archimedes Crater and Endymion Crater. A telescope will help you see all this and even more, including the Apollo 15 and 16 landing spots, and the Fra Mauro Highlands.

When is the next Full Moon?

In North America, the next Full Moon is predicted to take place on April 1.

What are Moon phases?

NASA says the Moon takes around 29.5 days to circle Earth, moving through a set of eight distinct phases along the way. Even though we always see the same side of the Moon, the portion lit by the Sun changes as it travels, which is why it can look full, half-lit, or barely visible at different points in the cycle. These changing views are what we call the lunar phases, and there are eight in total:

New Moon - The Moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it's invisible to the eye).

Waxing Crescent - A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).

First Quarter - Half of the Moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-Moon.

Waxing Gibbous - More than half is lit up, but it’s not quite full yet.

Android adds custom caller ID cards, new location sharing features

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 02:54

Google has announced a few new Android features on Tuesday, including custom caller ID cards and further location tracking functionality.

SEE ALSO: Android 17 Beta 1 arrives for Pixel: How to download it

Google has added custom Calling Cards that will appear on compatible Android phones when you call them, so the person on the other end knows who's trying to get in contact. Available now on Android 11+ and arriving soon on Wear OS, Calling Cards require both the caller and recipient's devices to have Phone by Google set as their primary calling app. Fortunately, you can choose to only show your Calling Card to your contacts if you prefer.

Android users can customise their Calling Card to display a chosen photo, as well choose the font and colour of their name. Unlike iPhone's similar feature, Android's Calling Cards don't appear to let you directly choose a representative avatar or emoji rather than a photo. However, you can select images from your gallery, so you may be able to save a photo to your phone for use as a workaround. Just remember to be responsible with it.

Google has also rolled out new features for its location tracking network Find Hub, previously known as Find My Device. Last March, Find Hub added the ability to share both your real-time location and tracked items via its app.

Tuesday's update allows you to share your location directly in Google Messages, which will show the recipient a real-time map pinpointing where you are. Just as in Find Hub, you can set it to automatically stop sharing your location after a set period of time, or until you turn it off.

Find Hub also now enables you to share tracked items' locations with partnered airlines in its app, helping them to find you wayward luggage. Google states that it is working with over 10 major airlines, including China Airlines, Air India, and Turkish Airlines, and expects to add others such as Australian airline Qantas soon.

NYT Pips hints, answers for March 4, 2026

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 02:00

Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest game in the New York Times catalogue.

Released in August 2025, the Pips puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.

Currently, if you're stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.

How to play Pips

If you've ever played dominoes, you'll have a passing familiarity for how Pips is played. As we've shared in our previous hints stories for Pips, the tiles, like dominoes, are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don't necessarily have to match.

SEE ALSO: Wordle today: Answer, hints for March 4, 2026

The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible – and common – for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.

Here are common examples you'll run into across the difficulty levels:

  • Number: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.

  • Equal: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.

  • Not Equal: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.

  • Less than: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.

  • Greater than: Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.

If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

The NYT's latest daily word game has launched in association with The Athletic, the New York Times property that provides the publication's sports coverage. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer.

If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake — players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Hurdle hints and answers for March 4, 2026

Wed, 03/04/2026 - 00:00

If you like playing daily word games like Wordle, then Hurdle is a great game to add to your routine.

There are five rounds to the game. The first round sees you trying to guess the word, with correct, misplaced, and incorrect letters shown in each guess. If you guess the correct answer, it'll take you to the next hurdle, providing the answer to the last hurdle as your first guess. This can give you several clues or none, depending on the words. For the final hurdle, every correct answer from previous hurdles is shown, with correct and misplaced letters clearly shown.

An important note is that the number of times a letter is highlighted from previous guesses does necessarily indicate the number of times that letter appears in the final hurdle.

If you find yourself stuck at any step of today's Hurdle, don't worry! We have you covered.

NYT Strands hints, answers for March 4, 2026

Tue, 03/03/2026 - 22:00

Today's NYT Strands hints are easy if you love to bake.

Strands, the New York Times' elevated word-search game, requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There's always a theme linking every solution, along with the "spangram," a special, word or phrase that sums up that day's theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.

By providing an opaque hint and not providing the word list, Strands creates a brain-teasing game that takes a little longer to play than its other games, like Wordle and Connections.

Supreme Court denies case seeking copyrights for AI-generated art

Tue, 03/03/2026 - 17:23

The highest court in the land has decided not to hear a case on whether AI-generated art can be copyrighted under U.S. law, as the battle over digital creation continues.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal involving an artist refused copyright for digital art created by a personal AI software. Plaintiff Stephen Thaler filed for copyright of a piece of moving digital art in 2018. The application was rejected by the U.S. Copyright Office in 2022. The office argued that the Missouri computer scientist's art was not eligible for copyright protection because it was not created by a human.

SEE ALSO: AI has made us all surveillance targets. This tool helps you fight back.

The decision preceded a 2025 report by the U.S. Copyright Office that offered further interpretation of the law and eligibility for copyright shelter, writing that "unedited outputs of generative AI tools" wouldn't qualify for protection. The report added that art facilitated by AI but "retained the centrality of human creativity" could be eligible, but not expressive elements solely determined by a machine.

The copyright of AI-generated and AI-assisted works of art remains an ongoing battle. The office has previously rejected copyright claims by artists who argue certain forms of art created with the assistance of AI tools — rather than art generated independently by AI software — should fall under the 2025 interpretation of U.S. copyright law.

Thaler has also appealed to the Supreme Court over rejected U.S. Patent and Trademark Office applications, urging the court to decide whether or not AI-generated inventions are eligible for U.S. patent protection. The Trump administration had been placing pressure on the court to deny hearing Thaler's copyright case, CNBC reports.

Thaler's lawyers expressed disappointment in the court's decision not to take the case. "Even if it later overturns the Copyright Office's test in another case, it will be too late. The Copyright Office will have irreversibly and negatively impacted AI development and use in the creative industry during critically important years."
