Everything we know about Chris Pratts Way of the Warrior Kid

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 17:45

What if your Navy SEAL uncle could help you defend yourself from your bullies?

That's the main conceit of Apple Original Films' upcoming movie Way of the Warrior Kid, starring Chris Pratt. The project is based off of former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink's best-selling novel of the same name and is directed by McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation). But there's more to know about the movie where that came from. From cast to release date, here's what you need to know about Way of the Warrior Kid.

SEE ALSO: The 41 best Apple TV shows, ranked What's Way of the Warrior Kid about?

Way of the Warrior Kid focuses on struggling middle schooler Marc (Jude Hill), whose classmates bully him relentlessly. When his Navy SEAL uncle Jake (Pratt) comes to spend the summer with him and his mom Sarah (Linda Cardellini), Marc will get a chance to learn how to defend himself.

To help his nephew, Jake puts together "Operation Warrior Kid." Based on Jake's own military training, his program is less about teaching Marc to fight, and more about teaching him to embrace true courage. Along the way, Jake will wrestle with demons of his own, as both he and Marc discover their own bravery.

Its official: The Switch is Nintendos highest-selling console ever

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 17:17

Nintendo officially has a new MVP in its hardware portfolio.

The venerable video game maker announced in its latest earnings report (via IGN) that the first Nintendo Switch is officially the best-selling piece of gaming hardware in Nintendo history. You can actually see the overall leaderboard on Nintendo's website, which confirms that the Switch has now sold 155 million units, putting it just ahead of the Nintendo DS, which previously led the pack with 154 million units sold.

SEE ALSO: I got to play the new Nintendo Switch Virtual Boy. It has the same problem it did in 1995.

To be clear, that does not make the Switch the best-selling piece of gaming hardware, period. That title still belongs to the PlayStation 2, which sits at around 160 million units sold. The Switch could potentially catch up to and even surpass the PS2 if given enough time, but the existence of the Switch 2 might throw a wrench in any future success for the older console.

As an aside, Nintendo also confirmed that the Switch 2 has sold 17 million units in less than a year, putting it well above the 13.5 million units the Wii U sold in its entire lifetime.

Speaking of the Wii U, the runaway success of the Switch didn't always feel like an inevitability. The oddly named follow-up to the Wii was the company's biggest failure since the Virtual Boy, and in the months prior to the Switch's launch in early 2017, it felt like Nintendo needed a hit badly.

Now that the Switch has established itself as the most successful brand in Nintendo history, we can also safely say it was the best idea the company ever had, at the exact time when Nintendo needed it the most.

Maybe someday the Switch 2 will get articles like this, too. Who knows?

Everything we know about pickleball comedy The Dink

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 17:15

Pickleball players, you may finally get your Challengers.

OK, OK, so maybe Apple TV's upcoming pickleball comedy The Dink won't be quite as sensual as Luca Guadagnino's tennis film. But it will bring pickleball to the movies, with the help of stars Jake Johnson and Mary Steenburgen, as well as director Josh Greenbaum, who helmed the brilliant comedy Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.

SEE ALSO: 2026 movie preview: All the films you need to know about right now

From plot to cast to release date, here's what you need to know about The Dink.

What's The Dink about?

The Dink centers on former tennis prodigy Dusty Boyd (Johnson), now a washed-up coach at his father Chuck's (Ed Harris) country club. The venue is going through big changes, as the hot new sport of pickleball sweeps over the tennis courts. Chuck is against this supposed fad, and Dusty agrees, hoping to earn his dad's approval. However, when an old injury resurfaces and prevents Dusty from playing tennis, he gives pickleball a shot. And you know what? He likes it! With the help of his pickleball partner Candace (Steenburgen), Dusty could chart a new course for the club, and for himself.

Who is in the cast of The Dink?

Johnson and Steenburgen lead The Dink as a pair of pickleball partners. (Say that three times fast.) The rest of the cast includes Harris, Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, and Aaron Chen, with Ben Stiller, who also produces.

Oh, and that's not all. Real-life tennis star Andy Roddick appears as himself, aka Dusty's childhood tennis nemesis.

Why SpaceX bought xAI: Data centers in space arent the only reason

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 16:07

Elon Musk, the world's richest man, just combined his companies SpaceX and xAI, creating the most valuable privately-owned company in the world.

The reason? In a statement posted on SpaceX's website after the news broke on Monday, Musk said that the electricity demand for AI was too much and, in the long term, AI data centers will need to operate in space. Days before SpaceX acquired xAI (creating a company valued at an estimated $1.25 trillion), the company had already submitted filings to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking permission to launch satellites that would operate as AI data centers in space.

But, is that really why SpaceX bought xAI?

While Musk may genuinely want to build AI data centers that orbit the Earth, some experts are skeptical that's the real reason for the merger. Tim Farris, the president of satellite and telecom industry research firm TMF Associates, called Musk's space data center plan "a Rorschach test for potential SpaceX investors, just like Optimus does for Tesla investors," in a post on the group's website.

"Both allow for near term demonstrations that look impressive but aren’t meaningfully revenue-generating, while allowing Musk to make long term projections of 'infinite' revenues that can be (nearly) infinitely postponed," Farris writes.

As experts point out, a merger allows the companies to pool their resources to help with their bottom line.

SpaceX is reportedly planning an IPO later this year, which could raise up to $60 billion at a $1.5 trillion valuation.

Starlink, Musk's satellite internet service under the SpaceX umbrella, is the main revenue driver for the company. However, Farris points out that there are only so many rockets available to launch more satellites into space.

If SpaceX is not spending on Starlink, what should SpaceX do with those billions? Musk's AI company xAI, on the other hand, needs money badly. Bloomberg recently reported that xAI, along with its AI chatbot Grok, is burning $1 billion every month as the AI arms race with OpenAI, Google, and Meta heats up.

But, as Farris mentions to CNBC, xAI provides SpaceX with a bonus as well. Despite xAI's money problem, AI is a hot investment trend right now, and potential investors looking to get involved could be wooed by the prospect of investing in Musk's AI company via a SpaceX IPO. This may be more of a draw for some investors, as SpaceX itself has consistently missed its revenue projections.

So, Musk might be saying AI data centers in space are the reason for the acquisition, but the deal could also give both SpaceX and xAI a boost.

TV audiences fell in love with Anya Taylor-Joy thanks to her riveting lead performance as Beth Harmon in The Queen's Gambit. Now, following several major film roles — including a blazing turn as a wasteland warrior in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga — Taylor-Joy returns to the small screen in Apple TV's upcoming limited series Lucky, where she trades playing a chess champion for playing a con artist.

Grindr is testing a new AI plan that could cost $220 a week

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 14:57

Grindr is testing a new premium tier that could cost up to $499 per month, Business Insider reported.

The new EDGE membership will be powered by Grindr's proprietary AI stack, "gAI," according to a blog post by the app's chief product officer, AJ Balance.

SEE ALSO: Grindr beefs up safety features for 2026 Winter Olympics

"Grindr is becoming an AI-first company," Balance wrote. "EDGE is designed for users who want a more efficient, higher-signal experience — less scrolling, better conversations, and stronger follow-through."

EDGE features include:

  • A-List, which the blog describes as "a recap of meaningful chats and missed connections." When Grindr spoke to Mashable in 2025 about the A-List beta, the company described it as profile and chat summaries, as well as a short list of best matches.

  • Discover: personalized profile recommendations

  • Profile Insights: compatibility data and some other context, like how often they respond and when they're active

Grindr has been testing EDGE in Australia and New Zealand, and it's now expanding the pilot to Canada and some U.S. cities. Because EDGE is an experiment, users may see different prices, the blog post states.

On X, multiple posts show the EDGE price as $219.99 for one week or $349.99 for one month. Online reports show the price ranging from $349.99 to $499.99 per month, according to Business Insider.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

AI-powered features can be turned off in the app's Privacy Settings (though, if you're paying $220 a week for AI features, you probably won't).

Existing subscription tiers (Grindr XTRA, $22.99/month, and Unlimited, $44.99/month, per the App Store) are unchanged.

In the sea of TV deals live in honor of the Seahawks vs. Patriots showdown this weekend, one of Best Buy's TV promos stands out with more than a flat discount.

Not only are several Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs from 2024 and 2025 already discounted by $1,000+ themselves, but buying one will also get you a free 50-inch Samsung U7900 4K TV (a $299.99 value). If you're already looking for a premium model to upgrade your living room TV, why not upgrade your bedroom TV or garage TV for free while you're at it?

Sizes on sale range from 65 to 100 inches, and discounts range from 20% to about 34% off. The best deal (the one with the biggest price cut percentage-wise) is the 85-inch Samsung QN900D Neo QLED 8K TV on sale for $3,999.99. That's $2,000 off its usual $5,999.99.

SEE ALSO: Sony hands TV business to TCL. What it means for you.

Do you necessarily need an 8K TV right now? Not exactly. There's still not a ton of 8K content out there to even take advantage of an 8K TV's incredible resolution. Being on the expensive side, 8K TVs are a bit of a hard sell at full price. But when they're seeing sale prices like what Best Buy is offering here today, they're a steal. A premium Samsung Neo QLED is still a premium Samsung Neo QLED in all its glory. The Samsung QN900D and QN900F series are exceptionally bright with sensational glare handling, and the mini LED backlight provides quite rich contrast for a non-OLED TV. (Need a refresher on TV specs? Read my super straightforward breakdown.)

This type of free TV promo is quintessential clearing house that we see from the big retailers every winter. The cycle kicks off at CES in early January, when the big brands unveil their 2026 TV lineups. But most of those announced flagship TVs don't actually become available for sale until March or April, leaving February as the key month to downsize stock of last year's TVs. The timing just happens to line up perfectly with the biggest football game of the year.

P.S. The Seahawks vs. Patriots game will be streaming on Peacock. You can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Walmart+ and get a free month of Peacock. That'll also cover the Olympics for you.

Leaks suggest Nothing Phone 4a is coming very soon

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 13:05

Companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google release new flagship phones every year, but if you're tired of the relentless upgrade cycle, you might want to keep an eye on Nothing.

The U.K.-based tech startup that's made its name over the past few years with distinctive-looking, affordable Android phones allegedly has a new one coming out very soon. Leaker Yogesh Brar (via Android Authority) posted on X that the Nothing Phone 4a and 4a Pro models will launch on March 5. The same post indicated that the phones will have upgraded storage, a slight jump in battery capacity, new Snapdragon chips, and a higher price from the Phone 3a, which starts at $379.

The name "Phone 4a" would sort of imply that this is a mid-range take on the Phone 4. The only problem with that assumption is that there isn't a Nothing Phone 4. Company CEO Carl Pei recently confirmed the firm is taking a year off of doing a major flagship release, so it seems like the more budget-friendly Phone 4a models are all we're getting in 2026.

In other words, if the annual race to the top from the other companies is exhausting to you and you need a new Android handset, maybe the Nothing Phone 4a is worth a look.

Whats the Minions drama at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 12:59

The first major drama of the 2026 Winter Olympics has arrived before the opening ceremony, and the Minions are at the scene of the crime.

Spanish figure skater Tomàs-Llorenç Guarino Sabaté said Tuesday that he received last-minute clearance from Universal to use music from the Minions in his short program after copyright concerns briefly derailed his Olympic program. While the situation is ongoing, and he doesn't have all of the music cleared, it's enough to officially say: The Minions are headed to the Olympics.

Why was Tomàs-Llorenç Guarino Sabaté's Minions music initially blocked?

Just days earlier, Sabaté, 26, revealed on Instagram that he was no longer permitted to skate to the music in his Minions short program at the Milan-Cortina Games. The routine combines multiple songs and sound bites from the Minions franchise: It begins with the Universal theme sung by the Minions, includes Pharrell Williams' "Freedom" from Despicable Me 3, and ends with bass-heavy "Papaya (Vaya Papayas)," which features the Minions singing about bananas and papayas in Minion language.

Sabaté performed this program all season, and had submitted it for approval through the International Skating Union’s ClicknClear system back in August.

Despite this, the skater said he was informed of the issue late last week, leaving him scrambling to consider reworking his routine on the eve of his Olympic debut.

"Finding this out last Friday, so close to the biggest competition of my life, was incredibly disappointing," Sabaté wrote. "Nevertheless, I will face this challenge head-on and do everything I can to make the best of this situation."

How did the Minions music get cleared for the Olympics?

The decision was reversed after people rallied online, questioning how the music could be blocked so close to the Games and urging the rights holder to intervene. (The people need their Minions — and, frankly, how dare laws and rules get in the way of whimsy?) On Tuesday, Sabaté confirmed via his Instagram Story that Universal had granted him permission to use the soundtrack for what he described as "this one special occasion."

"Huge THANK YOU to everyone who reposted, shared, and supported," Sabaté wrote. "Because of you, Universal Studios reconsidered and officially granted the rights."

Figure skating analyst Jackie Wong, reporting from the Milan-Cortina Games, noted that while only two of the four musical cuts in Sabaté's program have been cleared so far, the most difficult hurdle has been resolved. "The Universal one at the beginning was the trickiest," he wrote on X, "and that was the one they got special clearance for."

As for Sabaté, he's just relieved that the routine's centerpiece has been saved. "I'm so happy to see that the minions hitting Olympic ice is becoming real again!!" he wrote on IG. "I'll keep you posted."

How did fans influence Universal's decision to approve the music?

Simply, the internet did what it does best and bullied Universal into relenting. Figure skating fans and those fond of joy flooded social media with posts and pleas demanding that Sabaté get his Minions music back.

There are multiple, actually. It begins with the Universal theme sung by the Minions, which should be a familiar sound to anyone who has ever seen a Minions film. The program also features Pharrell Williams' "Freedom" from Despicable Me 3 and ends with "Papaya (Vaya Papayas)" from Juan Alcaraz and The Minions — who share artist, writing, arranging, production, and engineering credits on the song, according to EW.

Why did Sabaté choose Minions music for his Olympic program?

Sabaté has skated to songs from the Minions animated film franchise all season, performing his short program in a yellow-and-blue costume inspired by the characters. He previously said the routine was designed to bring joy and a playful style to the ice while still meeting every required technical element.

"This season I competed with my Minions short program to bring joy and a playful style to the ice," Sabaté wrote earlier this week on Instagram, adding that the program was meant to show "that skating as a male Olympic figure skater can be fun."

When will Sabaté compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

While the Milan-Cortina Winter Games open on Friday, Feb. 6, the six-time Spanish men's champion is set to make his 2026 Winter Olympics debut alongside the Minions during the men's single skating short program competition on Feb. 10.
