NASA's Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are world-renowned as the "stranded astronauts": Though they haven't endured the longest spaceflight, it would certainly seem that way based on news coverage.
Perhaps it was their association with Boeing, the beleaguered aerospace company that built the spaceship that made their story go viral. The veteran astronauts took Starliner to the International Space Station last summer. The pair was only supposed to be gone for eight days. Instead, the two have been laid over in space for nine months.
Starliner experienced propulsion problems during their arrival last June, so NASA made a gametime decision to send the ship back to Earth empty and arrange for a different capsule to bring them home. In the interim, Wilmore and Williams were integrated as members of Crew-9, the team staffing the space station. Starliner's uncrewed landing, for what it's worth, touched down without a hitch.
The day of the astronauts' return is now quickly approaching, with the U.S. space agency moving up the schedule a tad to avoid some inclement weather expected later in the week.

Credit: NASA / Robert Markowitz How to watch those 'stuck' astronauts returnCurrently, the plan is for Wilmore and Williams' SpaceX Dragon capsule to undock from the space station at 1:05 a.m. ET on Tuesday, March 18. A splashdown landing should follow at about 5:57 p.m. ET, also on March 18.
NASA plans to provide live coverage of both the undocking process and the ship's reentry into Earth's atmosphere through landing. People at home can watch the hatch closing with a broadcast that begins at 10:45 p.m. ET on March 17. Undocking will roll into the next day at 12:45 a.m. on March 18.
Then, following the Dragon capsule's deorbit burn, NASA will resume the broadcast at about 4:45 p.m. ET on March 18.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.Though nine months is indeed a long time to be away from the planet, it's not the longest time any astronaut has spent in orbit. Just prior to the Starliner saga, NASA astronaut Frank Rubio experienced his own delayed return in 2023. Due to a tiny but concerning leak in the Russian Soyuz capsule set to bring him home, the two space agencies decided to arrange a different ride for Rubio and two cosmonauts to be safe.
The change of plans led to Rubio spending over a year in space — 371 straight days to be exact — the longest single spaceflight for an American. The Russian cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov still owns the record for most consecutive time in space, at almost 438 days, but Rubio's stay surpassed U.S. astronaut Mark Vande Hei's previous record of 355 days, set in 2022.
Despite continuous references to Wilmore and Williams as "stuck" and "stranded," even being dubbed as such by SpaceX's billionaire founder Elon Musk, the Dragon capsule intended to bring them and their crewmates home has been docked at the space station since September 2024. That means in the event of an emergency at the laboratory, orbiting 250 miles above Earth, the astronauts could have evacuated and returned home.
From left, Sunita "Suni" Williams, Aleksandr Gorbunov, Nick Hague, and Barry "Butch" Wilmore prepare for their return home from the International Space Station. Credit: NASAStill, rampant misinformation and politics have seemed to hijack that narrative. Musk, who has since become President Donald Trump's most visible kitchen cabinet adviser, claimed in late January that SpaceX wanted to move up the astronauts’ return but that former President Joe Biden's administration was to blame for the delay. Trump has echoed those remarks.
Wilmore and Williams have achieved an unexpectedly high level of name recognition, but they are not traveling alone on this journey. With them will be crewmates Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov.
Rather than deserted castaways, Wilmore and Williams' remained at the space station to ensure it was fully staffed before Crew-10 arrived to relieve them. Those replacements — Anne McClain, Nichole Ayers, Takuya Onishi, and Kirill Peskov — successfully reached the lab on Sunday, March 16.
TikTok is making it easier to personalize security settings in-app, introducing a new all-in-one security hub to better manage account access and data.

Last week, TikTok announced new parental control features that allow caregivers to set stronger app restrictions and monitor their teens' accounts more closely.
Credit: TikTokData privacy is at the heart of TikTok's political contentiousness over the last year. In January, TikTok briefly left U.S. digital marketplaces following a years-long campaign to ban the app for U.S. users, but was restored to app stores by the Trump administration under the pretense of potential new ownership.
Prior to its ban, the Chinese-owned platform was accused of being under the influence of foreign government interests, with congressional members arguing its access to Americans' data presents a wide scale national security risk — civil rights groups, meanwhile, argued against the ban. Despite fielding several offers, the White House appears to be pushing ahead with a deal that could see American software company Oracle taking over the reigns, as the platform continues to update its user control options.
Save 41%: As of March 17, the Beats Studio Buds + are at a record low price of $99.95. That price drop takes $70 off their $169.95 MSRP.
Opens in a new window Credit: Beats Beats Studio Buds + $99.95 at AmazonAs someone who covers deals, I've learned that sometimes, the best price drops come at the most random times.
Take the Beats Studio Buds +. I've seen them drop in price to $129.95 enough times that that price stopped feeling like a deal worth reporting on. During shopping holidays, these earbuds might drop a bit lower to $119. Yet, it's during a random March day that I spot the Beats Studio Buds + are down to a new record low price of $99.95 at Amazon, slashing an impressive $70 off their list price (and putting them at the same sale price as the older and cheaper Beats Studio Buds).
Though these earbuds came to the scene in 2023, they're still an especially good choice for folks who want strong Apple integration in their earbuds, without paying Apple prices. (At the time of writing, the cheapest ANC you can get with AirPods is for $148.99, thanks to a sale price on the AirPods 4).
SEE ALSO: Ozlo Sleepbuds review: Can earbuds really improve your sleep? When I tested them in 2024 for our best noise-cancelling earbuds roundup, I found they acted incredibly similar to AirPods in how they paired with my phone and in their battery life — like the AirPods Pro, they offer six hours per charge with ANC on. (Unlike the Pros, their case has 36 hours of battery to the Pros 30).
You will miss out on spatial audio with head tracking and the ANC isn't quite on par with the Pros, but you still get great sound quality that delivers plenty of bass, while still providing plenty of balance (which does help, considering there's no companion app with an adjustable equalizer).
In addition to their fun aesthetics, I found that the Beats also fit better in my ear than any pair of AirPods ever has, but they still favor button to touch controls on the earbuds themselves, which made the wear experience especially great. Obviously, everyone's ears are different, but if you've never been a fan of the fit of Apple earbuds, Beats might be worth checking out.

Opens in a new window Credit: Beats Beats Studio Pro headphones $179.95 at AmazonAs a shopping reporter, I'm always checking out people's gear. Whether I'm at the gym or walking to the corner store, I always have my eyes peeled for what people are sporting, especially on their ears. I spend all day hunting for deals and testing products, but I like to see what headphones people are actually buying and wearing. And easily my most spotted headphones are the Beats Studio Pros.
And I get it, there's a reason we awarded them a Mashable Choice award. The Beats Studio Pro headphones deliver active noise cancellation and 40 hours of battery life. They deliver rich audio while blocking out loud noises whether that be city scapes or a busy office space. Like Apple's AirPods collection, Beats bring the same breezy connectivity. Just by turning on the headphones, they'll connect to your iOS devices seamlessly. But unlock AirPods, Beats offer great connectivity to Android devices too.
At their standard price tag of $349.99, the Beats Studio Pros are a little pricier for our liking, even if they are nearly half the price of the Apple AirPods Max. Luckily, as of March 17, you can find the Beats for just $179.95. That offers $170.04 in savings for 49% off. The lowest price we've ever seen the Beats Studio Pros dip down to is $159.99 so this isn't a bad deal, just $20 away from that price.

Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, and Han Gi-Chan lead an all-star cast in The Wedding Banquet, a remake of Ang Lee's 1993 romantic comedy that we frankly can't wait to see.
Directed and co-written by Fire Island's Andrew Ahn with Lee's co-writer James Schamus, the film centres on a group of friends, two couples, each with major life hurdles ahead of them — and one brilliant scheme that spins out of control.
Killers of the Flower Moon Oscar-winner Gladstone and The Last Jedi star Tran play Angela and Lee, lesbians who are struggling with their IVF journey and its towering costs. Meanwhile, Wicked star Yang and Our Song's Han Gi-Chan play gay couple Chris and Min, who are navigating differing levels of commitment and Min's looming visa expiry.
For the ultimate win-win, the four decide on a deal: Min and Angela will get a green card marriage if Min and Chris will pay for Angela and Lee's IVF expenses. But then Min's grandmother (Pachinko and Minari screen legend and Oscar-winner Youn Yuh-jung) arrives to plan the banquet, the wedding scheme levels up in stress, extravagance, and comedic potential.
The Wedding Banquet hits cinemas on April 18.
Apple just can't keep a lid on its next batch of iPhones.
Courtesy of leaker Sonny Dickson, we now have something resembling photos of the four iPhone 17 models that Apple is expected to launch this September. Dickson posted photos on X over the weekend of dummy models (primarily used by accessory makers for measurement purposes) of all four iPhones.
Most notably, this leak seems to further confirm the existence of the thinner iPhone 17 Air model, which looks like it might replace the Plus model Apple had been offering for the past few years.
SEE ALSO: Why are there no iPhones in 'Severance'? This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. There are a few things to pay attention to here. First, it looks like every model except for the base iPhone 17 will have a camera bump that runs the width of the phone, similar to a Google Pixel. The Air model looks pretty big, with a screen size that is between the Pro and Pro Max models. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the display will measure in at 6.6 inches. It does, indeed, look to be much thinner than the other iPhone 17 models, and it only has one rear camera like the iPhone 16e. However, it also allegedly has some more modern niceties, such as a 120Hz display and Dynamic Island support.
SEE ALSO: Some very detailed foldable iPhone predictions just dropped, and you won't like the priceAs a reminder, Apple will most likely not make any of this official until September of this year. At this rate, we might know everything about these new phones before Apple tells us about them, anyway.

Save 28%: The EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds are on sale for $64.99 with an on-page coupon at Amazon as of March 17. The coupon helps bring their price down $25 from their $89.99 MSRP.
Opens in a new window Credit: EarFun EarFun Air Pro 4 $64.99 at AmazonUsually, a pair of budget headphones or earbuds comes with an obvious trade-off: they might sound great but struggle to connect to your device consistently, or have sub-par ANC.
When I tested the EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds for our best noise-cancelling headphones guide, I struggled to find that trade off. Their excellent battery life, noise-cancellation, sound quality, and customization made them feel much more expensive than $89.99. And as of March 17, with Amazon offering an on-page coupon for the black EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds, their price feels even more impressive on sale at $65.99.
Admittedly, part of what I liked about these earbuds during testing is that they do go on sale relatively often, so if you can't pick them up now, I imagine we'll see this deal again — and if you can, it's a great time to grab them.
SEE ALSO: Ozlo Sleepbuds review: Can earbuds really improve your sleep?Along with the earbuds, you'll get access to the companion app, which allows you to customize the touch control settings, use the custom EQ tool (making earbuds that sound great out of the box even more suited to your audio taste), and adjust the different ANC modes — a feature which I've not seen on headphones twice the Pro 4's price. They also connected to two devices, and switched between them, without issue.
Battery-life wise, EarFun claims about 7.5 hours per charge with ANC and 11 without, with 27.5 hours and 41 hours in the case which each of those respective modes. Thanks to the light indicators on both the inside and outside of the case showing the relative battery life of the buds and case, I never felt caught off guard by a low battery indicator.
So what's the catch? Well, the case is plastic and is perhaps where the earbuds most obviously show their price. Performance-wise, their touch controls are sensitive, and not great at distinguishing between a one, two, or three press motion, making it easy to adjust the wrong setting altogether. For that reason, I toggled them off, and although not convenient, this didn't detract from the experience enough to outweigh all of these earbuds' pros.

Netflix's limited series Adolescence, co-created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, is impressive in a number of ways, but one thing that's really got people talking are the technical elements.
Filmed by Boiling Point director Philip Barantini in one shot per episode, the crime drama follows the characters without ever cutting away — and in one memorable sequence at the end of episode 2, the camera suddenly lifts up from the ground, soars through the air, and travels several streets away before descending for a final shot.

Just like the real animal, the robot flaps its ears, moves its tail, and sprays water through its trunk. The mechanical elephant is 11 feet tall, weighs 800 kilograms, and can carry a person on its back.
Donated to Irinjadappilly Sree Krishna Temple by PETA India, the robotic elephant is part of an initiative that aims to tackle the issue of animal abuse in religious rites. Used for ceremonies, elephants are subjected to physical and psychological stress, and exposure to flashing lights, loud noises, and crowds during festivities can cause uncontrollable reactions in the animals, often resulting in human casualties.
Asian elephants, which are an endangered species, are an important part of Indian culture. In ancient times, elephants played a crucial role in warfare, serving as a force on the battlefield and a symbol of power. Beyond their role in warfare, elephants have also long held deep cultural and religious significance. In Hinduism, they’re considered sacred due to their association with Lord Ganesh, a Hindu god with an elephant head who represents wisdom, new beginnings, and the removal of obstacles. But here comes the paradox — because they are worshipped, the wild animals are captured to perform in religious rituals, but their taming means physical harm, sedation, and imprisonment.
Currently, there are around 2,700 reported captive elephants in India, and the country’s Centre for Research on Animal Rights (CRAR) recently alerted Kerala’s chief minister about an alarming increase of mortality rates in elephants held in captivity, citing that 138 animals have died between 2018 and 2023.

Cleaning air in smaller rooms in the specialty of the Shark NeverChange Compact Pro air purifier. Your home office, bedroom, nursery, dorm room, or guest room are all perfect options for this mini air purifier. Shark says this model is ideal for rooms that measure 250 square feet or less.
Like all Shark air purifiers, this model uses a HEPA filter which can capture 99.98% of all pollutants and irritants that float around in the air. Dust, pet dander, pollen, and viruses are some of the most common irritants a HEPA filter can remove, but the Shark also features extra filters that capture larger particles like pet hair and dust bunnies, leaving the actual HEPA filter cleaner for getting rid of small particles.
The Shark NeverChange Compact Pro has a front display LED screen that updates in real time, showing you the overall air quality level. When used in auto mode, the Shark air purifier will automatically adjust the purifier's speed to ensure the air remains clean.
This model is really great for bedrooms since the LED screen has several brightness levels, including a night mode that turns it off entirely. Its quiet operation is also a great benefit for light sleepers.
The "NeverChange" part of this air purifier refers to the HEPA filter, which Shark says can last for up to five years before it'll need to be replaced. Since HEPA filters tend to be pricey, this can help cut down on the overall cost of using an air purifier.
If you tend to suffer with spring pollen, consider the benefits of the Shark NeverChange Compact Pro air purifier. Snag the Dove colorway for just $119.99 at Amazon and get through spring without the misery of allergies.

An uneven chronicle of grief, Steven Feinartz's Are We Good? follows comedian and podcast host Marc Maron during and after the isolation of COVID lockdown, during which he lost his partner, the filmmaker Lynn Shelton. It's a documentary of immense detail and a vast number of opinions on Maron's personality, and how he deals with loss through stand-up comedy. However, this context pales in comparison to his actual art and artistic process — the brief glimpses of which are more enticing than the film surrounding it.
SEE ALSO: SXSW: What are the movies and shows you need to know about? The movie feels, at times, like having a lengthy stand-up routine interrupted in order to explain its origins. For a comic like Maron, whose work is filled with expository, self-reflexive piss and vinegar, this doubling down often proves extraneous. Essentially, Are We Good? doesn't give you that much more than Maron's recent specials.
What is Are We Good? about? At its core, the film is about Shelton, and eventually, her absence. The hole she leaves in Maron's life is central to his story, and in that vein, Feinartz creates an adequately radiant portrait of the late indie darling.
The strengths of Are We Good? lie in its edit, courtesy of Derek Boonstra, Natalie Ancona, and Jenn Harper. Through old Instagram Live broadcasts from Maron's account, an intimate lockdown portrait emerges of the comic's life before and immediately after Shelton's passing, affording him the opportunity to essentially hold his own camera and tell his own story. However, outside of this specific setup, Are We Good? tends to lie in wait, practically meandering through rote documentarian traditions until it decides to toss in a few clips of Maron on stage.
This spotlight is where Maron is most comfortable, unfiltered, and vulnerable — it's where he's most himself — but there isn't nearly enough of it in the movie. While it can be fun to have other comics opine on his persona, from John Mulaney to David Cross, their observations seldom offer anything new. This is no fault of theirs, mind you. Rather, it's an outcome of Maron's casual delivery and his tendency to self-deprecate, which conveys the same information in its most raw and potent form. If anything, this is the wrong kind of movie for his skill set and style of comedy.
Are We Good? isn’t a good fit for Marc MaronThere are several moments during the production, as Feinartz follows Maron around his home with a camera, during which the comic seems annoyed. This is, of course, part of his idiosyncratic charm and part of what drew Shelton to him in the first place. However, one gets the sense that the filmmakers ought to have taken Maron’s lucid criticisms to heart.
There are moments when, seemingly as a joke for the audience (or perhaps a ploy to playfully annoy Maron), the documentary employs a specific flourish soon before or after the comedian decries it. For instance, the use of an animated photo montage, one of several "gimmicks" Maron critiques as an unnecessary substitute for Feinartz’s sheer glut of up-close-and-personal-footage.
Getting the cranky side of Maron is fun and honest, but this approach also hangs a lampshade on some of the movie's biggest flaws. As the partner of a former director, as an actor himself, and as the long-time host of the podcast WTF with Marc Maron (which has had numerous high-profile guests from both sides of the camera), Maron clearly knows a thing or two about movies. It's hard to avoid the sense that he's right about these numerous flourishes feeling like unnecessary distractions.
It would be one thing if Are We Good? then adjusted to his whims, but that it treats his jabs as mere complaints results in the movie feeling at odds with its subject.
Are We Good? takes a distant approachA lot of the movie contains archival images and video of Maron, but it uses these to explain various highlights (and low points) across his life much like a Wikipedia article might. For the most part, it only captures Maron as he wants to be seen. It isn't a film of inquiry so much as simply observation.
It would be different if Are We Good? were treating Maron as some kind of unknowable enigma but it's very much an overarching biographical portrait, given the breadth of its old footage. And yet, its approach remains fundamentally at odds with his own: one of opening the darkest, angriest parts of himself to his audience through frank conversation.
As a movie, it's too withdrawn and tepid, relying too heavily on that which Maron provides. Its lens looks, but doesn't see, and it certainly doesn't seek to probe past its subject's annoyance to capture what lies beneath it. Feinartz seems respectful of Maron's loss, but perhaps Are We Good? is too respectful for a comedian who trades in surprising his audience by pushing unexpected emotional buttons.
In fact, the film is arguably at its strongest when pulling from some particularly vulnerable episodes of WTF — his Shelton in-memoriam, or his discussions on loss with Andrew Garfield and Patton Oswalt — during which it accompanies the audio clips with visual waveforms. These white, musical squiggles on a black background take on an almost spiritual form in the process, becoming jagged, unnerving externalizations of grief. But again, even these soundbites are entirely on Maron's terms.
There's perhaps a more confrontational version of Are We Good? — either on some cutting room floor or simply in the imagination — which further pushes Maron into his signature paradoxical zone, where he's most at ease bleeding for his art. Then again, one could just as easily argue that this version would entail Maron's stand-up specials in full. So, it's hard not to wonder if viewers would be better off watching those instead, rather than being enticed by clips from them, before having them constantly yanked away.
