Connections is the latest New York Times word game that's captured the public's attention. The game is all about finding the "common threads between words." And just like Wordle, Connections resets after midnight and each new set of words gets trickier and trickier—so we've served up some hints and tips to get you over the hurdle.

If you just want to be told today's puzzle, you can jump to the end of this article for November 12's Connections solution. But if you'd rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.

The NYT's latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with helping to create the new word game and bringing it to the publications' Games section. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer.

If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by the New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.

The entire archive of past Wordle puzzles was originally available for anyone to enjoy whenever they felt like it, but it was later taken down, with the website's creator stating it was done at the request of the New York Times. However, the New York Times then rolled out its own Wordle Archive, available only to NYT Games subscribers.

The full suite of Apple Intelligence features isn't quite ready for primetime yet, but you can at least test some of them out prior to their proper launch.

Apple launched the third beta for iOS 18.2 this week. If you've gotten past the Apple Intelligence waitlist, this beta lets you get a taste of the new AI-powered features. It should be noted that these features actually entered the public beta last week and the latest beta release is mostly dedicated to bug fixes.

Apple Intelligence introduced its highly anticipated image-based AI tools in earlier betas, but with iOS 18.2 developer beta 3, you can keep experimenting with the following:

Image Playground

First up is Image Playground, Apple's standard text-to-image generative AI tool.

It works how you'd expect: Type some text into a box describing what you want to see, and eventually, an image will pop up that should, theoretically, depict what you wrote.

That said, it's not that basic. The software will make suggestions for things to add to your photos and you can even use existing photos as inspiration for your creations. You can, of course, share your creations through the Messages app.

Genmoji

Next up is Genmoji, or AI-generated emoji.

You can use text descriptions or existing photos of people to create custom emoji.

Visual Intelligence

On the more practical, though less creative side, is Visual Intelligence.

This feature allows iPhone 16 users (yes, it is exclusive to the newest iPhones) to open up the Camera app, aim it at something, and have AI give you some pertinent information about what you focused on.

For instance, aim your camera at a business, and you might get service hours or user reviews. Visual Intelligence can also do dirty work like detecting phone numbers and addresses in images to add to your contacts list. Oh, and it can copy and paste text, which will most likely be the most useful thing about it.

Siri with ChatGPT

Finally, Siri's upcoming ChatGPT enhancements are available via the iOS 18.2 beta. The way this works is that if you ask Siri a question and it can't come up with a satisfying answer on its own, you will be prompted to optionally consult ChatGPT instead. Siri will present the answer, but ChatGPT is where it comes from.

Oh, and unlike the web version of ChatGPT, you don't need to make an account to use this feature. Take notes, OpenAI.

You can download the third developer beta of iOS 18.2 by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Beta versions of iOS can be rough around the edges, so don't forget to make a backup.

Donald Trump may have won the 2024 presidential election, but Elon Musk may end up being the bigger winner than the soon-to-be 47th President of the United States.

Musk bet big on Trump and spent millions to back him. However, Musk wasn't just doing this out of the kindness of his heart. Many of Musk's companies. including Tesla, SpaceX, X (formerly Twitter), xAI, The Boring Company, and Neuralink, heavily rely on government contracts and subsidies. They have made billions in federal dollars.

Musk's bet has paid off. Since the election, Musk has been a regular figure in Trump's orbit. He reportedly made further inroads with Trump and deepened his influence in terms of making policy and appointment suggestions. Musk was even on a phone call made after the election between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

But, how will Musk play a prominent role in politics and the Trump administration while still running his businesses? It appears that Musk will assemble an "A-Team" to act as his mouthpiece in government. 

Musk's A-Team

"America’s A team is usually building companies in the private sector," Musk posted on X just days after Trump's electoral win last Tuesday. "Once in a long time, reforming government is important enough that the A team allocates time to government. This is that time."

Musk appears to be positioning himself to encourage Trump to bring his trusted employees and allies into the administration, aiming to secure favorable outcomes for his ventures.

According to the Financial Times, some of the likely names that Musk will float include individuals like Steve Davis, president of The Boring Company, Musk's tunneling company that is ranked as one of the worst for workplace safety. Davis played an important role with Musk's pro-Trump lobbying group America Pac this year. Davis was also the key figure Musk relied on to cut 80 percent of then-Twitter's employees shortly after Musk acquired the platform now known as X.

Musk will likely also turn to Omead Afshar, who helped Musk with Twitter layoffs and the cutting of 14,000 jobs at Tesla earlier this year.

Musk's most trusted associate Jared Birchall will likely also play a role in Trump's administration, if Musk has any sway. Birchall has been referred to as Musk's right-hand man and runs his family office while also working directly with Musk's xAI, Neuralink, and The Boring Company. Birchall also played a major role in Musk's Twitter acquisition.

SpaceX may benefit the most

The Musk company with the most to gain from relaxed regulations and favorable government contracts is his space exploration company SpaceX. According to the New York Times, Musk asked Trump to consider SpaceX employees for positions with the Department of Defense, including Senior Vice President for Global Business and Affairs Tim Hughes, former Air Force general and SpaceX advisor Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, and Senior Director of Government Affairs Mathew Dunn.

While Tesla already benefits from tax credits, Musk's EV company will find itself further wrapped up in regulatory issues as it looks to push the autonomous driving capabilities of its planned robotaxi. While most of these conflicts are at the state level, Musk may look to leverage the federal government to exert pressure on these regulators. Peter Scheutzow, Tesla's head of autopilot and AI, and safety chief Suraj Nagaraj, are also potential Musk-backed candidates for roles within the administration.

And, of course, no list of potential Musk candidates would be complete without his fellow Silicon Valley elites. Venture capitalists and hedge funders like David Sacks, Jason Calacanis, and Bill Ackman have all become more active in pro-Musk politics online and could certainly play a role in a Trump administration. Musk's weapon-tech buddies like Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale and Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey could also potentially find a place within Trump's Department of Defense.

Regardless of who Trump picks, things within the U.S. government are looking very good for Elon Musk in the coming years – as long as he stays on Trump's good side.

Wicked, indeed! Mattel erroneously printed "Wicked.com" on boxes of their new singing dolls tied to Universal Pictures' Wizard of Oz prequel film, but the movie's actual URL is WickedMovie.com, while the other web address leads to an adults-only website.

Visitors to Wicked.com are greeted with a message indicating the page is "Restricted to adults (18+) only" and "displays sexually oriented, including explicit, material of pornographic nature."

Mattel is aware of the "misprint," telling the Associated Press in a statement, "We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this." Details on Mattel's actions are unclear at the moment, though the AP notes that many of the dolls — primarily sold in the U.S. — were yanked from online stores like Amazon and Target.com. The toy behemoth is telling concerned parents with the original box to toss the packaging in the trash or keep it out of sight of kids; the toys are for children aged four and up.

The far-right gadfly account known as LibsofTikTok has already tried to weaponize the mistake, insinuating it was somewhat intentional.

While the goof is a nightmare for Mattel, Universal may be pleased at all the publicity generated by the URL. The film, starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey, arrives in theaters on November 22.

TikTok has revolutionized the way we watch videos, and it's a detail that other short-form video creation platforms can't ignore: the swipe up.

When Instagram launched its TikTok clone Reels, it included a swipe up design detail, an important aspect that makes the copycat so popular — and same thing with YouTube Shorts. Famously, all of those platforms are primarily used to vertical video. Now, it appears the YouTube app itself might be testing that gesture in its standard video player — in all its horizontal glory.

Digital Trends contributor Tushar Mehta first spotted the change and posted about it on X saying he noticed the change on the app on Android phones and asking who would want "to scroll on a long form video?" It's a good question. The general consensus — if you combine the vibe of Mehta's tweet with the headline from the Android Authority piece covering the potential change, "YouTube is testing the worst change ever in its Android app" — is that people are not excited about it. One user responded to Mehta's post on X with: "this is so frustrating. Frustrating enough to drive me to twitter to see if I'm the only one who's annoyed." Another user called it "genuinely hilarious," which Mehta responded with: "Idk how engineers come up with this to justify their $250k+ salaries."

This is not an official change, and YouTube did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable. So far it's only been spotted as a limited test on Android, and it's unclear if Google has any plans whatsoever to actually roll this out.

Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot and ChatGPT rival, could soon be breaking out on its own for iPhone users; some eagle-eyed Philippines-based individuals spotted the standalone app in the Apple App Store.

iPhone owners can access Gemini via the Google app, but a dedicated, standalone app would streamline things significantly, giving iOS users a faster, more direct connection to Google’s advanced AI — without the extra steps.

One of the standout features of the Gemini iOS app that was shared online is Gemini Live — a voice chat option that mirrors the real-time conversation capabilities seen in OpenAI's ChatGPT. Unlike the Google app’s Gemini tab, which lacks this functionality, Gemini Live appears to be the primary attraction of the standalone app.

This move would align with Google’s broader push to make Gemini a more central, standalone product in its AI ecosystem, like Microsoft’s approach with Copilot. Google hasn’t commented on the app sightings yet, but if they’re in a testing phase, we could see Gemini rolling out to a wider audience soon.

Black Friday being one of the best times of year to buy a TV is knowledge that we were all simply born with, it seems. Where to find those stellar TV deals is less obvious, and for many, is a question that boils down to one thing: Amazon or somewhere else?

To be frank, likely the only time Amazon will have the "best" TV deal in any given category is on its own Fire TVs. These, including its Amazon-branded Fire TVs as well as Fire TVs made by TCL, Toshiba, Hisense, and Insignia, get the most attention discount-wise from Amazon during any shopping holiday, and are all but guaranteed to drop to a new record-low price for Black Friday. If you're partial to the Fire TV platform or merely trust Prime shipping the most, Amazon's not a bad place to find an affordable mid-size 4K TV with a smooth interface. For bigger or fancier QLED or OLED models, Best Buy is your best bet. Its selection of large screen premium options from Samsung, Sony, and LG is much vaster than Amazon's, and that selection isn't riddled with questionable third-party sellers like Amazon's is. Best Buy's early Back Friday deals also confirm that Best Buy is making sure to have a stake in the "small, cheap QLED" club.

At any rate, you may still want to peruse Amazon's early Black Friday TV deals to get a head start on your comparisons to other TV deals. American music mogul Pharrell Williams has never been one to color inside the lines. So, it's no surprise that his biopic takes a completely different approach than, well, anyone else. Directed by Oscar-winning documentarian Morgan Neville, Piece By Piece "is a winsome reinvention of the music biopic" that's told entirely through Lego-inspired animation. Williams, of course, lends his voice and produces, inviting in his famous friends and collaborators — also in Lego minifigure form. It features Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z, just to name a few.

If you missed it in the theaters, it's no big deal. Piece by Piece is now available to watch at home, and here's everything you need to know.

What is Piece by Piece?

Piece by Piece is a music documentary of Pharrell Williams' life and career, told entirely through the use of Lego figures. Like many documentaries that came before it, interviews with some of his major collaborators and famous friends help to tell the chronological life story. But beyond the interviews themselves, the film offers a colorful and whimsical in-depth look into the most transformative moments of his career, illustrated through playful visuals and metaphors. From his childhood in Virginia Beach through his modern day relevance as a cultural icon, the Lego documentary reinvents the boring talking heads biopic format.

Is Piece by Piece worth watching?

While it struggled at the box office, only pulling in $9.5 million against a $16 million budget, Piece by Piece earned largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Pharrell Lego documentary has an 84 percent critic rating and 90 percent audience rating with over 500 verified reviews. Mashable's own reviewer, Film Editor Kristy Puchko, called it "a delight that could well have audiences dancing in the aisles."

It's not perfect, as it glosses over the low points of Williams' life and career, but it has more positives than negatives. "The more I mulled over what this movie does offer, the more I was won over by its playful, glossy approach," Puchko writes in her review. "Animation is enthusiastically employed to bring the audience into the experience of being Pharrell Williams. The colorful blocks not only allow the construction of musical beats to become a physical act rather than an abstract idea, but also give a Ratatouille-like understanding of how this art form affects its hero. His synesthesia is showcased in waves of color as the beat bounces."

Rumor has it that Apple is working on a thin next-gen device called iPhone 17 Air. However, new whispers claim that Apple is having trouble with it.

The source comes from news aggregator account yeux1122 on the Korean blog site Naver, per MacRumors. According to unnamed industry sources, the post speculates that Apple is struggling to produce the rumored “iPhone 17 Air” thin enough to match its name. The usual culprit? The battery size.

Apple is reportedly planning to use a 6mm-thick battery in the new, slimmer iPhone, which limits just how thin the device can actually be. It will likely be at least a few tenths of an inch thicker when you factor in everything else that goes into building a phone, too.

As MacRumors noted, the thinnest iPhone to date was the iPhone 6, measuring 6.9mm thick. If this rumor is accurate, the iPhone 17 Air likely won’t be much thinner than that.

Of course, a rumor from a news aggregation account nearly a year ahead of the iPhone 17’s release should be taken with a grain of salt. But if there’s any truth to it, some might find the new slim iPhone a bit underwhelming.
