If you're reading this, you're looking for a little help playing Strands, the New York Times' elevated word-search game.
Strands requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There's always a theme linking every solution, along with the "spangram," a special, word or phrase that sums up that day's theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.

X owner and Trump supporter Elon Musk reposted a message on Election Day claiming Google is helping Harris voters find polling places, while not doing the same for Trump voters, but the search giant is doing no such thing.
At about 3 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Musk reposted a conspiracy theory on X, the social media site he owns, that falsely claims Google is giving Kamala Harris an unfair advantage.
SEE ALSO: Judge refuses to stop Elon Musk’s million dollar election 'sweepstakes'Sharing a message from X user DogeDesigner to his 203 million followers, Musk wrote, "Are others seeing this too?" According to DogeDesigner, "Google shows a ‘Where to Vote’ section with a map for Kamala Harris, but not for Donald Trump.

The problem is DogeDesigner is way off — Google's "Where to Vote" section includes voting information for counties, not candidates. Possibly unbeknownst to both DogeDesigner and Musk, there is a Harris County in both Texas and Georgia.

Misinformation has been rife during the 2024 election. Lies, conspiracy theories, and political deepfakes have circulated on major social media platforms, making it difficult for people to know what's real and what's not. Just days before the election, for example, the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a warning, urging voters to seek reliable information from trusted sources, including their local election office.
You can find your local office by using this search tool from the U.S. government. Through its #TrustedInfo2024 campaign, the National Association of Secretaries of State also provides a roundup of official links to frequently asked questions about every state and territory's election process. Through these links, you can learn basic, accurate information about the election, such as where to vote and how votes are counted, topics that may be subject to last-minute rumors and misinformation.
To vet suspicious claims in real time, you may also consider consulting trusted fact-checking and misinformation-detecting outlets, including Fact.check.org, Politifact, The Washington Post's Fact Checker, Snopes, and NewsGuard's Election Misinformation Monitoring Center.
The 2024 U.S. election is rife with disinformation. Now, there's bomb threats.
On Nov. 5, Election Day, the FBI released a succinct statement acknowledging numerous bomb threats at voting centers. The agency suggests foreign tampering in U.S. elections:
The FBI is aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains. None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far.
Election integrity is among the FBI’s highest priorities. We will continue to work closely with our state and local law enforcement partners to respond to any threats to our elections and to protect our communities as Americans exercise their right to vote.
SEE ALSO: The truth about voting machine security in the 2024 electionMonths ago, the federal government warned that Russia would employ disinformation and other tactics in the U.S. election. "Russia is using its state-run media and other entities to covertly push for its preferred election outcomes, seeking to influence voter preferences in favor of the former president and to diminish the prospects of the vice president," Matthew G. Olsen, the head of the Justice Department's national security division, said at a Columbia Law School speech in September.

As always, we urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement, or submit tips to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or online at tips.fbi.gov.
Be wary of candidates claiming victory too soon. Voters may be eager to hear presidential election results as soon as possible but, according to election experts, a count is rarely official the day votes are cast, since the process for validating, processing, and counting every single ballot takes time.
Media outlets — and candidates — may call an election early, based on projected figures and the size of the margin between the candidates in various battleground states. But that doesn't mean every vote has been tabulated yet, especially in states that don't allow mail-in, absentee, or early-cast ballots to be processed before election day. Individuals are encouraged to follow the election bodies in key battleground states for the most accurate information and official counts: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

X users can enjoy a patriotic addition to their daily scroll, as Election Day revs up and our feeds fill with more and more content — and potential misinformation.
The like button now spins into a star-burst-filled ballot box animation when tapped, but — unlike the claims of some online — only on posts that use the site's official #ElectionDay and #Election2024 tags, which also sport the same patriotic ballot box emoji. And it's not the doing of CEO Elon Musk's Trump campaign sympathies.
SEE ALSO: These presidential election results maps update in real timeThe animation is merely an eye-catching part of the platform's live Election Day hub, and a common marketing option used by brands, campaigns, and holidays in the past. That context was left out of several viral tweets, in which some users erroneously credited the new animation to Musk's recent support of presidential candidate Donald Trump and in celebration of the former president's "current lead," they claimed. Posts alleging the animation was a pro-Trump move, however, weren't citing official election day numbers, but select polling figures posted by Atlas Intel, a data and forecasting company, last week.

Others rode the claim that Musk made the animation for Trump's campaign purely to farm likes, combining the official tags with pro-Trump messaging and "Repost for Kamala, Like for Trump" engagement bait.

Earth is a profoundly isolated rock.
The European Space Agency's Hera craft, en route to an asteroid, recently captured footage of our planet and the moon, set against the black ether of space. The two objects gradually shrink as Hera journeyed from some 860,000 to 2.4 million miles (1.4 to 3.8 million kilometers) away in October.
"As #HeraMission sped away from its homeworld it witnessed the Moon orbiting Earth," the agency posted online.
Tweet may have been deletedFor reference, the moon is located about 239,000 miles from us.
Our greater solar system is extremely isolated, too. There are huge distances between the stars. "In fact, if you were to shrink the sun to the size of a sand grain, the distance to the nearest star would be measured in miles," Sally Dodson-Robinson, a planetary scientist at the University of Delaware, previously told Mashable. The nearest solar system is Alpha Centauri, located 25 trillion miles from Earth.

The mission will rendezvous with the asteroid Dimorphos in December 2026, at a distance of some 121,167,000 miles, or 195 million kilometers, from Earth. It's a planetary defense expedition: Hera will use a slew of cameras and instruments to survey the impact site of NASA's successful asteroid-deflection test, which proved humanity can alter the path of a potentially menacing asteroid. Dimorphos, which is no threat to Earth, is about the size of a stadium, at 525 feet (160 meters) across.

To prepare for all sorts of future contingencies — such as a colossal asteroid or one that surprises us — researchers are also investigating the potential of detonating a nuclear device near an asteroid to change such a menacing rock's trajectory.
Although there's no known threat from an asteroid for at least the next century, it behooves us to be prepared, even if the odds of an impact are exceedingly small.
"You wouldn't want to take chances on an asteroid the size of a city," Nathan Moore, a physicist at Sandia National Laboratories, previously told Mashable.

It's almost the end of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour (almost 150 shows later), and dancer Kameron Saunders is still stealing the show every night. This week in Indianapolis, he delighted fans with a sublime TikTok shout out.
That's right friends, "Scram!" made the Eras Tour, the TikTok-viral delight made by comedian, actor, and writer Kel Cripe (@reallygoodimpressions).
SEE ALSO: The 'hear me out' cake TikTok trend, explainedDuring the live version of Swift's GFY anthem "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Saunders has carved a fan-favourite moment in the Eras Tour. In particular, it's the part of the song when Swift does her spoken monologue — "Ugh, so he calls me up and he's like, "I still love you" / And I'm like, "I just, I mean, this is exhausting, you know / Like, we are never getting back together, like, ever."
Every night of the Eras Tour, Swift hands the mic over to Saunders for the final "like, ever," which he delivered to script for the U.S. dates. But for the international shows, Saunders has shaken up the line each show, and it's become one of the most anticipated moments for fans.
So this week, at a show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Saunders used the line to scream one very online word: "Scram!"
TikTok fiends will immediately recognise Saunders' reference, Los Angeles based-comedian Kel Cripe's viral post in which they send "a message to all the guys tryin' to talk to my girl" wearing an outstanding wolf tee and holding raised fist, ready to deliver a freshly made knuckle sandwich.
At the time of writing, the video has 9.3 million views on TikTok. And it rules so hard.
"Scram! Leave her alone! She...she doesn't want to talk to you! Get outta here!" Cripe says in the video, as a piano version of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" plays and the camera recedes. Honestly, it's the perfect accompaniment to Swift's song about telling someone to absolutely piss off — or else.
Cripe indeed saw the Eras Tour moment and crafted a lip-synched post to celebrate the occasion.
"scram is also my ringtone. I'm never changing it," commented @mrs.jessi.g.
"This is like, bigger than going viral?! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!" wrote @essmeow.
"My fiance and I can’t stop saying scram to our kids and animals 😂😂😂" wrote mandynvr04.
If their official "Scram" tee wasn't already sold out, it'd be near impossible now.
