On Tuesday, Apple officially announced the new Mac mini M4 and M4 Pro. And the rumors were true: Apple has made its small desktop computer even tinier – about the size of the Apple TV.
The Mac mini is the most affordable option for users who want a Mac computer. Since the debut of Apple's silicon chipset, and the subsequent release of the M1 Mac mini in late 2020, the Mac mini has also been an incredibly affordable option to those looking for a powerful computer.
Here's the new Mac mini M4 and M4 ProFirst up, the Mac mini's most attractive feature: the price. The even more powerful M4 and M4 Pro Mac mini models are still going to provide the most bang for your buck. Apple is keeping the $599 starting price for the base M4 model with 10-Core CPU and 10-Core GPU.
And even better, Apple has finally dropped the base 8GB of memory from the Mac mini M4 lineup and that starting price now gets consumers 16GB of RAM, which is upgradable to 32GB.
As for storage, the Mac mini M4 will continue to ship with 256GB for the base model and can be upgraded with up to 2TB of disk space.
The front of the new Mac mini M4. Credit: AppleThe Mac mini M4 Pro model, however, can be upgraded even further. The Mac mini M4 Pro base model starts with a 12-Core CPU and 16-Core GPU as well as 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage at a price of $1,399. In addition to the upgraded base model memory, the new Mac mini M4 Pros can be maxed out to 64GB of RAM, which is double the amount of the previous Mac mini model and the new Mac mini M4 base models.
Apple has fit this all into its smallest computer yet as the redesigned Mac mini measures at 5 inches by 5 inches as opposed to the 7.75 inches by 7.75 inches dimensions of the previous model.
Apple says the new M4 chip has 2.5 times faster performance than the M1 Mac mini and is 20 times faster than the last Intel Mac mini, which came out in 2018.
The new M4 and M4 Pro Mac mini models replace the M2 and M2 Pro Mac mini configurations, which were released in January 2023. Apple skipped the M3 chipset for the Mac mini.
The tinier form factor on the redesigned Mac mini M4 and M4 Pro does mean some changes to the ports usually found on the computer. There are no more USB-A ports found on the new Mac mini M4 and M4 Pro.
However, previous owners of the Mac mini will be happy to see that Apple has finally moved some ports, two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, to the front of the device.
The back of the Mac mini M4 has three Thunderbolt 4 ports as well as HDMI and Ethernet ports. The Mac mini M4 Pro has the same ports in the back except the three Thunderbolt ports are upgraded to Thunderbolt 5. This basically gives the new Mac mini models the ability to connect to up to three displays at once.

Apple announced the new Mac mini one day after it kicked off its week of new Macs announcements. These new Macs coincide with the launch of Apple's own branded AI, Apple Intelligence. While previous Silicon chip-powered Macs will be able to use Apple's AI features, the M4 chipset was made for Apple Intelligence so Apple is clearly hoping the two work in tandem to bring customers out for both.
The new M4 iMac was unveiled by Apple to start the week off. The base model for the iMac, which comes with a built-in monitor, starts at $1,299, which makes the $599 Mac mini an alluring option for those who already have a computer screen at home.
On Monday evening, Amazon appeared to have accidentally leaked details of the new Mac mini M4 and M4 Pro when it uploaded a Mac comparison chart to its new iMac M4 product page. The image was promptly removed, but not before a number of social media users saved the image and shared it around the internet.
The new M4 and M4 Pro Mac mini models are available for pre-order now and will be available in stores on Nov. 8.
Black Friday is officially one month away, but there's really no need to wait to start your holiday shopping. We're seeing prices drop to all-time lows at Amazon this week on some of our favorite products from our favorite brands — Apple, Sony, Beats, and even Amazon itself. If you're looking to save some money this season, you might as well start ticking off your list now.
Here are our top picks for the best Amazon deals of the day on Oct. 29. Make sure to check out our picks from yesterday, Oct. 28, if you missed them. Plenty of those deals are still live as well — including a record-low M2 iPad Air.
Our top pick Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Amazon Fire Max 11 tablet $159.99 at AmazonAmazon's best iPad competitor and our favorite budget tablet, the Fire Max 11 is back at its record-low Prime Day price of $159.99. That's 43% in savings. As Mashable's reviewer noted, "The Amazon Fire Max 11 has a large, 11-inch display and is blazing fast, making it a good alternative to pricier tablets for streaming and games." It also features 8MP cameras that support 1080p video, an upgraded octa-core processor, WiFi 6 compatibility, and a 14-hour battery life.

Opens in a new window Credit: Beats Beats Solo 4 $99.99 at AmazonThe Beats Solo 4, the latest addition in the Beats lineup, saw their biggest price drop to date on October Prime Day. Today, on this random Tuesday in October, they're back down to that record-low of $99.99. That's 50% in savings. While we wish the Solo 4s had noise cancellation, we're willing to overlook it at this price. They do improve upon the previous generation with upgraded drivers, rebalanced acoustics, an improved frequency response, and better battery life (about 50 hours).
Opens in a new window Credit: Amazon Echo Show 5 with Energetic smart color bulb $49.99 at AmazonWhile we're partial to the Echo Show 8, its smaller sibling, the Echo Show 5 is still a great device. Plus, for a limited time, when you grab it on sale at Amazon for just $49.99, you'll get a free Energetic smart color bulb with it. That's 51% in savings for the bundle. Mashable reviewer SaVanna Shoemaker called it a "solid addition to the Amazon lineup," noting its improvements over the first generation, like a beefed up camera and new Alexa functions (i.e. motion-activated routines and home monitoring).

Mashable's Alex Perry reviewed it last year and called it "a slick, powerful machine" that "might be better than the iPad in a bunch of ways." Those ways include a bigger, superior display, more base storage, and a faster refresh rate. Usually $479.99, it's also competitively priced. As of Oct. 29, however, you can snag it on sale for just $340 — that's a 29% savings and a new record low.

Opens in a new window Credit: Sony Sony WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones $299.99 at AmazonThe Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are some of our favorites on the market. Mashable's Deputy Reviews Editor Miller Kern gave them a nearly perfect rating and a coveted Mashable Choice award. These babies offer impeccable sound quality, impressive noise cancellation, customizable sound, up to 30 hours of battery life, comfy ear cushions, and a "quick attention" mode that helps you hear boarding announcements or order a beverage on board a flight without shutting off your tunes completely. We wish they folded up into a convenient carrying case, but we can't always have it all. As of Oct. 29, you can grab them on sale for only $299.99 instead of $399.99. That's just $2 away from their lowest price on record.

SAVE UP TO $220: As of Oct. 29, multiple Dyson cordless vacuums have significant markdowns at Dyson's website, including the Dyson V12 Detect Slim at $429.99 and the Dyson V8 Absolute at $299.99 (both $220 off).
Dyson is getting in on the pre-Black Friday deals action just like all the other big retailers. It's just not officially calling it that.
In the midst of Walmart announcing its Black Friday plans on Oct. 28 and Best Buy doing the same the week prior, Dyson is also giving us a sneak peak as to what to expect this November with an unnamed, but not-so-casual sale on several cordless Dysons. While Dyson doesn't shy away from dropping prices on its vacuums whenever throughout the year, these discounts are more intense than we're used to seeing on any random sale day, making them feel like a true nod to the upcoming holiday season.
SEE ALSO: Why Eufy's X10 Pro Omni is the most surprising robot vacuum I've tested all yearFor instance, both the Dyson V12 Detect Slim and Dyson V8 Absolute are just $20 or $30 from last year's Black Friday prices, and the V15 Detect Submarine Absolute (the one that mops) being on sale at all is a rarity in itself. Unless you really want to wait and see if you can save a few more bucks come Black Friday, we say make the investment now and enjoy your new Dyson for an extra month.
Best Dyson vacuum deal Opens in a new window Credit: Dyson Our pick: Dyson V12 Detect Slim $429.99 at DysonThe cheapest way to bring Dyson's iconic dust-highlighting laser technology home is through the V12 Detect Slim. And yes, the laser is worth the extra coin over the $299.99 V8 — hands down.
The V12 Detect Slim has been my ride or die since it first graced the floors of my apartment two years ago, and I'll recommend it to anyone who asks which Dyson (or which cordless vacuum at all) they should get. This is almost fully due to the impact of that laser I just hyped up, which illuminates tiny crumbs, fur, and specks of dust that the naked eye may not pick up on, but that your bare feet or allergies might. The laser is such a comfort that I actually use it in my robot vacuum testing to see what a botvac may have left behind after a cleaning run.
SEE ALSO: Shark vs. Dyson: Which cordless vacuum should you get?The included attachments are also noteworthy, namely the mini motorized tool that is absolutely crucial in keeping up with furniture or carseats that pets sit on. If you're comparing the V12 Detect Slim to a Shark cordless vacuum in a similar price range, just know that I'd personally choose this attachment (which Shark makes you buy separately) over Shark's self-empty dock.

Only Murders in the Building Season 4 threw everything it had at the murder wall, with red herrings, twists, and wild cameos aplenty. Easter eggs are the name of the game in this show, and in the season finale, there was a teeny, tiny throwback to Season 1 hidden in the dialogue.
Consider this your spoiler warning.
SEE ALSO: 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 4 ending explained: Who killed Sazz and why?By the end of the episode, the killer has been revealed, allowing Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steve Martin) to get back to finishing the Only Murders in the Building Movie — now with a great script written by the late Sazz (Jane Lynch).
Cut to the Hollywood actors hired to play the core three — Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis — filming a scene in Charles' apartment, as their real counterparts watch on.
The neat thing is, they're actually performing a scene from Only Murders in the Building Season 1, episode 4, "The Sting."
During their first-ever investigation of the murder of Tim Kono, Charles is falling for Arconia neighbor and bassoonist Jan Bellows (Amy Ryan). About to go on their first date, he asks his friends for advice on whether it's the right time for romance considering someone was murdered in the building.
"Isn't it insulting to flirt now?" asks Charles.
"Oh, who the hell knows? Suddenly it's rude to tell a secretary she looks pretty in a pair of slacks," replies Oliver.
"Nope," responds Mabel. "No to that whole sentence."
"Compliment her purse," suggests Oliver. "If it isn't on their body you can like it."
"No, again, to every word that's coming out of your mouth," says Mabel, who then turns to Charles. "I'm glad you're doing this. Being alone in life is making you a little weird."
As Longoria, Levy, and Galifianakis perform the lines, the real Mabel, Charles, and Oliver stand with Sazz's script in hand, watching the whole scene flow the way it should have — written by their friend.
Only Murders in the Building is now streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the UK.

There's a new Apple Magic Mouse — and not everyone is happy about it.
Apple updated its mouse this week, selling a new $99 version that has precisely one major difference: it can be charged via USB-C now instead of Lightning. That should be met with universal praise, or at least one would think that.
Instead, however, the internet is pissed off because Apple changed the port, but kept the port's location on the underside of the mouse. This means you still can't charge the mouse while using it.

SAVE $7.96: As of Oct. 29, get The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom for Nintendo Switch for $49.99 at Woot. That's a discount of 18%.
Opens in a new window Credit: Woot The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom $49.99 at WootThe Legend of Zelda is an enduring adventure series that's been around since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Usually, you take on the mantle of Link, the Hero of Time and work to rescue the beautiful Princess Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule. But for so long, fans have asked to swap the roles and give Zelda a chance at being the hero for once. That actually happened this year, when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom made its Switch debut. And if you haven't had a chance to experience it yet, now's a great time since it's on sale.
As of Oct. 29, you can get The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom for $49.99 at Woot. That's $7.96 off its normal price and a discount of 18%. This is the physical edition, so it'll have to be shipped to you, and it's a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
In this adventure, you take on the role of Zelda as she creates "echoes" of monsters and items she meets along her adventure to save Link and the kingdom. The Tri Rod, given to her by a fair named Tri, is her way to interact with the world as it can summon multiple monsters and copies of items. She can also use the action "Bond" to tie objects to her and move with her. Of course, she can also fight with a sword that gives her the daring new Swordfighter form. She's got everything she needs at her disposal to bring Link back, which will likely be a refreshing change of pace for players who have been asking to step into her shoes for some time.
Mashable reviewer Alex Perry praised its "old-school structure with new ideas" and "creative puzzle-solving" as well as its art style and great soundtrack: "Its aesthetic and music are endearing, the echo system creates tons of really clever puzzle solutions, and it harkens back to old Zelda games without abandoning what makes the newer ones special."
Grab yours now at a discount and jump in or hang on to a copy to give as a holiday gift to someone who may not have any idea Zelda finally took over the spotlight.

Opens in a new window Credit: NordVPN NordVPN $159.03 at NordVPNWe know that it's still October, but Black Friday deals are kicking off. It's going to be a long holiday season. Thanksgiving falls at the very end of November, so you have to wait until November 29 for Black Friday to officially arrive. Walmart is hosting an entire month of deals so you can shop all month long. Meanwhile, other brands are just kicking off their Black Friday sale a whole month in advanced. NordVPN is part of the early sale crowd, launching some major savings on their services.
Among the services we've tested, NordVPN is the best premium option. While it has far more than the average VPN user needs, users who want maximum customization will relish all that it has to offer including a password manager, ad blocker, and anti-malware protection. It starts with three tiers of plans: Basic, Plus, and Ultimate. You can subscribe monthly or on a one- or two-year plan. Monthly plans are rather expensive, but users can sign-up for yearly subscriptions at a discount.
And those yearly plans are even better during Black Friday. NordVPN is offering 74% off two-year plans plus three months free. That covers you for 27-months of service. Deals are available on all three levels of plan. Basic plans are down to $80.73, while Plus is just $105.03, and Ultimate is $159.03. However, if you're not able to take advantage of this deal now, don't worry, there are likely to be more rice cooker deals like this one popping up soon over Black Friday. Considering Cuckoo made an appearance in Prime Day sales this year, it's worth keeping an eye out on Amazon during the next big sale event to try and find it again.
If you like playing daily word games like Wordle, then Hurdle is a great game to add to your routine.
There are five rounds to the game. The first round sees you trying to guess the word, with correct, misplaced, and incorrect letters shown in each guess. If you guess the correct answer, it'll take you to the next hurdle, providing the answer to the last hurdle as your first guess. This can give you several clues or none, depending on the words. For the final hurdle, every correct answer from previous hurdles is shown, with correct and misplaced letters clearly shown.
An important note is that the number of times a letter is highlighted from previous guesses does necessarily indicate the number of times that letter appears in the final hurdle.
If you find yourself stuck at any step of today's Hurdle, don't worry! We have you covered.

We sort of know that Apple's Mac mini is coming soon — based on rumors and Apple's own 'Mac week' announcement — but Amazon jumped the gun and shared the tiny desktop's specs slightly ahead of time.
The new Mac mini can be seen in a comparison chart (now removed) on Amazon's site (via MacRumors) that lays down the key specs for two variants of the new Mac mini.
SEE ALSO: Apple is about to smallify its Mac mini even moreAs the chart indicates, the new Mac mini will be available either with an M4 or an M4 Pro chip, with up to 14 CPU cores, up to 20 GPU cores, up to 64GB of unified RAM memory, and up to 8TB of storage. Pretty darn powerful for a mini desktop computer.
The comparison chart even gives a small (very small) glimpse at the new Mac mini's design, which (in line with previous reports) will be a lot smaller, and slightly more square-ish than the current one.
Unfortunately for Space Black fans, it appears that the new Mac mini will only be available in one color: Silver.
Apple is likely to announce the new Mac mini sometime this week, probably before its quarterly earnings results which the company plans to share on Thursday.
