Have you ever cleaned your mattress? Better yet, have you ever thought about cleaning your mattress? If you've spent any time in the #cleantok rabbit hole on Instagram (you know, where the millennials hang out with their cleaning hacks and '90s throwbacks), you've probably seen some stuff. Dust mites, dead skin cells, bodily fluids, etc., are all having a field day in your mattress right now — but there's a mattress vacuum cleaner on sale that can help you clean all that right up.

As of Jan. 29, you can get the Jimmy WB73 mattress vacuum cleaner for $79.99 at Amazon (don't forget to clip the on-page coupon). That’s $100 off the list price and a damn good deal for a vacuum you can use on your mattress, couch, and anywhere else there’s a flat surface to suck up all that nasty buildup.

SEE ALSO: The best vacuum cleaners for picking up pet hair

What makes this vacuum different is its UV light, ultrasonic sterilization technology, HEPA filter, and dual cyclonic filtration system. It’s built to thoroughly clean mattresses and remove 99.99% of allergens from your home in a way that a standard vacuum just can’t. It also has a dirt detection sensor that’ll let you know when your mattress is clean (the LED light will appear red if it’s dirty and green if it's clean).

The only downfall of this vacuum is that it’s corded, so you'll need to be close to an outlet to use it.

Starlink connectivity is coming to iPhone via T-Mobile

Mashable - 9 hours 44 min ago

Starlink connectivity is coming to Apple's iPhone.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported that Apple has been secretly working with SpaceX and T-Mobile US to add support for Starlink in Apple's iOS 18.3.

T-Mobile partnered with SpaceX last year and launched a beta program for Starlink connectivity last December. However, the company originally only offered the option on Samsung phones. Now, this has been expanded to the iPhone as well.

The service is still only available as a (very limited) beta. T-Mobile users with iPhones who have signed up for the beta started seeing text messages from T-Mobile telling them to update to iOS 18.3 to get Starlink connectivity.

SEE ALSO: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max: Which one should you buy?

Apple iPhone users have already had a chance to try out satellite connectivity via Apple's Emergency SOS feature. That feature, however, was quite limited as it could only send some emergency data out, and it required users to point the phone at the sky.

Starlink connectivity is different, as it won't require users to point the phone upwards; instead, it should work like other mobile networks, even when the device is in the user's pocket. The initial version, however, will only allow texting.

Tweet may have been deleted

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk commented on the news, saying that "medium resolution images, music & audio podcasts should work with the current generation Starlink direct-to-phone constellation." He also announced that the next generation Starlink constellation will do "medium resolution" video.

The feature should be available on "most current iPhone models," Bloomberg's report said. It's also coming to Apple's Ultra smartwatch later in 2025.

Nasty WhatsApp bug let users access View Once photos multiple times

Mashable - 11 hours 16 min ago

WhatsApp has a feature for those moments when you want to share something, but don't want it to stick around. Called "View Once," the feature lets you send a photo or a video to someone; after they've seen it, the content is gone forever.

That, at least, is how the feature should work, but a recently discovered bug — fixed in the last version of iOS — allowed users to see "View Once" content as many times as they wanted.

SEE ALSO: Are Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp all down? Meta companies experience serious issues.

First publicly described in a blog post last week by cybersecurity researcher Ramshath, the bug was extremely easy to exploit as it required no technical knowledge to do so. If someone had sent you a "View Once" image or video, all you had to do to access it again was go to Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage. If you then found the sender's chat and sorted the storage by "Newest," the "View Once" content was still accessible.

The bug only affected iPhone users, which is still a huge demographic, making this issue a pretty big privacy mishap by WhatsApp and its parent company, Meta.

Ramshath claims he reported the issue to Meta through the company's bug bounty program, to which Meta replied that it was already aware of the issue and working on a fix.

Indeed, the fix arrived fairly quickly, with WhatsApp version 25.2.3 on iOS. Users are advised to update to the latest version — especially if they want their "View Once" content to keep working as it should.

This is not the first time WhatsApp has had issues with the "View Once" feature. In September 2024, security researchers found that the disappeared content was still available by entering the exact URL of the media file, as it was still insecurely stored on WhatsApp's servers. This issue (which was followed by another, similar problem with the "View Once feature) was since fixed by WhatsApp.

Stephen Kings The Monkey review on Threads is pretty unambiguous

Mashable - 12 hours 54 min ago

Stephen King is always happy to make his feelings clear when it comes to adaptations of his work — whether the author likes them or he doesn't.

SEE ALSO: Every single Stephen King movie adaptation, ranked

The latest movie in the horror master's thoughts is Longlegs director Osgood Perkins' upcoming adaptation of The Monkey, produced by Saw's James Wan and starring The Gentlemen's Theo James. The film, which centres on a creepy cymbal-banging monkey toy associated with gruesome deaths, uses King's 1980 short story for its inspiration.

The verdict, which the author posted recently on Threads? Well, it certainly sound like the film made an impact.

View on Threads

"You've never seen anything like THE MONKEY. It's batshit insane," wrote King. "As someone who has indulged in batshittery from time to time, I say that with admiration."

That sounds...good, right? It's certainly in keeping with the tone of the movie's teaser, too. As to where it will land on our comprehensive list of the best Stephen King adaptations? Time will tell.

Scientists discover a super-Earth. Something about it is strange.

Mashable - 13 hours 7 min ago

Scientists found an intriguing world in our galaxy.

They confirmed the existence of a rocky planet, called a "super-Earth," that's some six times as massive as Earth. While the world HD 20794 d is larger than our planetary home, it's relatively low-mass compared to the huge and inhospitable Jupiter-like gas giants out there. Importantly, it inhabits a compelling part of its solar system, a region called the habitable or "Goldilocks" zone, where liquid water could exist on a world's surface. (Earth, for example, orbits in this special area, where it's neither too hot, nor too cold.)

"For me, it was naturally a huge joy when we could confirm the planet's existence," Michael Cretignier, an exoplanet detection researcher at the University of Oxford who led the research, said in a statement.

Evidence for the initial detection, made in 2022, was thin: Cretignier needed more observations to conclusively prove HD 20794 d's existence.

SEE ALSO: NASA scientist viewed first Voyager images. What he saw gave him chills.

But there's something unusual about this super-Earth.

Planets orbit their stars in elliptical, or oval, shapes, though these ovals tend to be almost circular (but still can't literally be called circles). Yet Cretignier notes HD 20794 d has a "peculiar orbit." It's highly elliptical, which means as the planet orbits its star, it moves from the inner edge to just beyond the outer edge of the habitable zone every year. This raises questions about its habitability, or likelihood that it harbors conditions that could support life as we know it.

You can see a conception of the planet's strange orbit below. The outer planet is the super-Earth HD 20794 d, and the green region in space is this solar system's habitable zone.

An illustration of a habitable zone in a solar system. Credit: NASA

The research was recently published in the peer-reviewed journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. The exoplanet team harnessed two decades of light observations captured by the HARPS and ESPRESSO (Echelle SPectrograph for Rocky Exoplanet and Stable Spectroscopic Observations) instruments, located in the profoundly dark and dry Chilean mountains. These sensitive instruments detect minute gravitational effects an exoplanet has on its star. You can think of these effects as faint, almost imperceptible wobbles.

Although HD 20794 d still remains largely mysterious, it's possible that future exoplanet missions — such as NASA's Habitable Worlds Observatory — a space telescope that would look for signs of life in the atmospheres of other worlds — will be able to closely investigate this intriguing super-Earth.

"Excitingly, its proximity with us (only 20 light-years) means there is hope for future space missions to obtain an image of it," Cretignier said.

There are likely more than a trillion planets in our galaxy alone, and a large proportion could be super-Earths. One day, we might confirm that some are ocean worlds, like Earth.
