Plus, some exciting changes and surprises are on the horizon.

First, here's a sneak peek:

When does Abbott Elementary Season 3 come out?

The third season of the laugh-out-loud mockumentary premieres on ABC on Feb. 7 at 9 p.m. ET with two back-to-back episodes. Subsequent episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.

Can I watch Abbott Elementary Season 3 without cable?

Good news: if you don't have access to cable or local broadcast stations to watch Abbot Elementary on ABC, you can stream the episodes the following day. You'll just need a Hulu subscription. Want to watch the episodes live? You'd be better off signing up for a cable replacement service like YouTube TV, Fubo, or Hulu + Live TV. It'll cost you a whole lot more than a basic Hulu subscription, but you'll get access to more than 100 live channels—no cable company required.

We've broken down all the best streaming options for watching the new season below, as well as the best ways to save some money on your Hulu subscription.

You can get both Hulu and Disney+ (the Disney Bundle: Duo) for only $9.99 per month — just $2 more than paying for Hulu on its own. You can also throw ESPN+ into the mix with the Disney Bundle: Trio for only $12.99 per month. That's three streaming services for one low price. You'll have to watch some ads, but it's worth it for the savings of up to 49%.

Best cable-replacement option: YouTube TV Opens in a new window Credit: YouTube TV YouTube TV free 7-day trial, then $62.99/month for your first three months (save $30) Get Deal

YouTube TV is the best cable alternative due to its epic scope and affordable introductory offer. Its base plan includes access to more than 100 live TV channels — including your local networks (ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC) and other entertainment, sports, and news favorites such as FX, AMC, ESPN, FS1, and TNT. Of course, in order to watch Abbott Elementary, you just need access to ABC. YouTube TV currently offers a free seven-day trial to test the waters, then an introductory offer of $62.99 per month for your first three months. After that, it jumps back up to full price ($72.99 per month).

Note: There are other great live TV cable replacements like Hulu + Live TV or FuboTV, but they're a bit more expensive.

Apple Vision Pro has an app that can help manage anxiety

Tue, 02/06/2024 - 04:56

You can now use Apple Vision Pro to help manage your anxiety.

The Lungy: Spaces app utilizes the features of what Apple calls “spatial computing” to create bespoke interactive breathing exercises and sound-based, active meditation.

Inspired by ancient meditation practices like Tibetan singing bowls, the app lets users interact with virtual instruments to create their own relaxing soundscapes. This immersive 3D environment uses RealityKit, Spatial Audio, and hand gestures, and each user can regulate the app’s immersion levels based on their own preferences.

Lungy: Spaces was developed by health tech company Pia and NHS doctor Luke Hale, who also created the Lungy iPhone app, which offers breathing exercises to people with respiratory problems.

Lungy is available as a wellness application for helping decrease stress and anxiety, and Pia is currently developing a medical device app, Lungy Health, that is approved as a therapy for patients with breathing conditions, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Lungy Health will undergo its first clinical trial in 2024.

What is Connections?

The NYT's latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with helping to create the new word game and bringing it to the publications' Games section. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer. If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Apple Vision Pro: Watch these 3 Tesla drivers use it in the wild

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 17:28

From this guy wearing an Apple Vision Pro on the NYC subway to this gym attendee strapping it on while using the treadmill, in-the-wild social media videos of Apple's new headset have been nuts.

What's even more interesting is how many videos we've seen of Tesla drivers using the newly launched $3,500 headset. We're not sure why Tesla-and-Vision Pro combo videos are climbing in popularity, but we thought we'd let you see them for yourself.

In one video posted by @iCaleb7, an Apple Vision Pro user is seen approaching what appears to be a red Tesla Model S.

Showing what he's seeing inside the Vision Pro, the in-headset recording reveals a floating UI that lets the Vision Pro wearer control their Tesla. The driver is seen popping open the trunk by simply pinching his fingers.

"Tesla app works with Apple Vision Pro and it can become a phone key," Caleb said in an X post.

2. Driving a Tesla with an Apple Vision Pro?

Dante Lentini went viral for driving his Tesla with an Apple Vision Pro strapped on his face before seemingly getting pulled over by law enforcement.

As it turns out, according to Gizmodo, none of it is real. It's a skit. Lentini told Gizmodo that he was only driving for 30 to 40 seconds with the Vision Pro headset.

Plus, he staged his car next to some unrelated police activity, making it seem like he fell into some serious trouble due to wearing the head-mounted display.

3. Apple Vision Pro and Cybertruck drivers

Vision Pro and Cybertruck are arguably the most futuristically quirky products to come out of Apple and Tesla, respectively, and we've been seeing both of them together across the social media landscape.

In a video that has garnered 17.2 million views to date, a Cybertruck driver is spotted wearing an Apple Vision Pro while driving.

"We're so fucked," said @blakestonks, the X user who posted the video.

“Never use Apple Vision Pro while operating a moving vehicle, bicycle, heavy machinery, or in any other situations requiring attention to safety,” Apple stated in a safety information memo. And yet, Vision Pro users don't seem to be listening to the Cupertino-based tech giant's guidance.

@TheGrizz_ posted a troll video on Instagram of himself exiting a Cybertruck and imitating the funky gestures one needs to navigate the VisionOS UI. "What is wrong with this generation..." his caption asked in jest.

Galaxy S24 problems pile up: 4 issues plaguing Samsung's newest smartphone

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 17:22

Here we go again.

Galaxy S24 early adopters are reporting bugs and other problems that they've been experiencing with their device since it launched just a few weeks ago. Much like the various issues that iPhone 15 and Pixel 8 early adopters experienced when those phones debuted last year, the reported problems with Samsung's latest line of smartphones are starting to pile up.

From display problems to wonky camera issues, Galaxy S24 owners are learning the hard way that there is a price to being the first to buy a new gadget. Of course, there will likely be some fixes from Samsung coming out in the near future, like Apple and Google rolled out for their respective devices.

But, for now, here's a rundown of what Mashable has been seeing when it comes to Samsung S24 issues.

Vivid display mode issue

One of the big selling points for the Samsung Galaxy S24 is the display. Unfortunately, that's also one of the biggest problems facing the device, according to some users.

Across social media, Galaxy S24 early adopters are finding issues with how colors are being shown on the Galaxy S24 display. Forbes found that even some users on Reddit have reportedly returned to using the previous model, the Galaxy S23, because the colors are so "dull" or washed out on the smartphone display.

Tweet may have been deleted

A well-known Android news source, @UniverseIce, believes the problem lies with the vivid display mode, which is meant to intensify the colors on the Galaxy S24 display. As many have pointed out, the color issues aren't a problem when using Natural mode.

This means that the display problem isn't a hardware issue; it's a software one. When the iPhone 15 faced overheating problems early on, Apple rolled out a software update weeks later and the overheating issue was fixed. Similarly, Samsung should be able to address the lackluster Vivid color profile with a software update, too.

There is one problem, however. Samsung is claiming that the Vivid display mode color profile isn't a bug; its intentional.

As reported by Android Police, Samsung Spain has provided the Spanish-language tech outlet Teknofilo with a statement saying that the issue many Galaxy S24 users are complaining about is just the new way Vivid display mode looks.

"We have adjusted the colors and brightness of Galaxy S24 series products to provide more accurate and comfortable viewing during use," reads the translated statement. "Some changes have been made to the display technology to provide a more natural viewing experience, so users may notice differences in color depth compared to older devices. This display behavior is an intentional color adjustment and is not a product defect, so it can be used safely."

However, the statement does also note that it's taking in feedback, so perhaps the loud rejection for the Vivid display mode on the Galaxy S24 will cause Samsung to reverse course.

Green line display issue

Samsung may be trying out some new things with the colors in Vivid display mode, but this one certainly isn't intentional.

Reddit

Some Galaxy S24 users are experiencing another, much worse, display issue: A green line appearing vertically, straight down from the top to the bottom of their screen. Some are even finding a white line going across the display too.

Reddit

To make matters worse, it's not clear why this is happening — and Samsung is reportedly not taking responsibility for the issue.

According to a post on the Samsung community forums and a report from Phone Arena, users who are experiencing this green and/or white line issue are being turned away from Samsung, claiming the responsibility to fix the issue lies with the cellular service providers like T-Mobile and Verizon. Furthermore, those Galaxy S24 owners are being given the runaround from the phone service providers, too, leaving them with no choice but to return the phone and repurchase a new one, losing out on any discounts they received from buying the Galaxy S24 the first time.

Looking around online, it seems like this green line display issue occurs on some older models after years of use. However, Galaxy S24 users are experiencing this issue after just days of usage. Unless these users are dropping their device and inflicting the damage, these green lines appear to be a manufacturing defect, one which Samsung would be responsible for.

Faulty cameras

One of the major selling points of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the priciest of the company's new line of Galaxy phones, are the cameras.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a total of four rear-facing cameras including a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

Some unfortunate Galaxy S24 Ultra early adopters have received defective phones that jump while switching camera to zoom in. There are also issues with certain lenses producing grainy and dull photos.

Tweet may have been deleted

As Phone Arena noticed, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra user @smasithick on X posted a video showcasing the "image shift" when switching between different cameras immediately after a zoom. The user says he had not experienced this issue when testing out the phone in-store, but had heard from others, including users in Spain and Thailand, who faced similar problems with the camera.

Tweet may have been deleted

According to @smasithick, when he went to the Samsung service center, "the manager was already aware of the issue affecting many first-batch devices made in India." Samsung offered @smasithick a replacement unit, but in his latest update @smasithick says the company is now planning to release a software update to fix the issue.

Tweet may have been deleted Android Auto issue

Longtime Samsung smartphone users may be very familiar with this problem. Connectivity issues with Android Auto, the Android-device feature that connects your smartphone to your vehicle's dashboard, have been especially prevalent with Samsung's devices. And the Samsung Galaxy S24 is no different.

There's a page addressing the Android Auto issue on the official Samsung UK website, as first noticed by 9to5Google.

"Some users have reported that they are unable to use Android Auto to connect their Galaxy S24 to their Volkswagen, Skoda, or SEAT cars," says Samsung.

While Samsung recommends some potential fixes, like checking the Android Auto settings, the company says the problem lies not with the Galaxy S24 or Android, but with the aforementioned car manufacturers like Volkswagen.

For example, with Volkswagen, there is a known hotspot bug that might require an update on the vehicle from the dealer, says Samsung.

'True Detective: Night Country' episode 5 is airing early. Here's when.

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 16:15

Itching to learn what chilling secrets True Detective: Night Country has in store in episode 5? Then you're in luck: We get to watch it a full two days early.

According to a press release from Max, episode 5 will get an early streaming premiere at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 9, ahead of its HBO premiere at the usual time of 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 11. The Friday streaming drop takes Night Country out of direct competition with the Super Bowl — and gives us two extra days to work on our fan theories about what happened to the Tsalal scientists.

HBO pulled a similar move last year with an episode of The Last of Us that coincided with the Super Bowl. However, the series returned to its regularly scheduled airtime in the following weeks, and Max has confirmed in a press release that the Night Country finale will air on Sunday, Jan. 18.

True Detective: Night Country episode 5 is streaming on Max Friday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. ET.

UPDATE: Feb. 5, 2024, 5:04 p.m. EST This article has been updated with information from a Max press release.

The best gift ideas for people in long-distance relationships

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 15:58

Long-distance relationships are the epitome of bittersweet.

A perpetual ache takes the place of the company you wish you were keeping; whoever said "absence makes the heart grow fonder" was really onto something. They were also corny as hell, but mushy quotes elicit less of an eye roll when you treasure falling asleep on FaceTime together every night.

However, LDRs don't have to be as dramatic as Fake Deep Twitter makes them out to be. There are tons of items out there that can make the separation more bearable, especially if your next trip to see each other is still up in the air. Until teleportation is a thing, fill the void with these nifty gifts that can make you feel more connected, keep that spark alive, or simply help your S.O. feel less alone. (The presents can't prevent every downside, but at least they'll give your person reassurance that they're on your mind.)

With Valentine's Day coming up, this is an especially opportune time to let your long-distance loved ones know you're thinking of them with a gift. While some of these gifts are clearly for couples, others aren't limited to a romantic long-distance relationship. Living far away from family members or friends and not seeing them often can be just as hard. Many of these gifts would make just as sweet a gift for your BFF or your family.

Martin Scorsese and daughter Francesca team up for Super Bowl ad teaser

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 14:30

What do you get when you put the minds behind Killers of the Flower Moon and some of 2023's best TikToks together? A charming father-daughter collaboration... that also happens to be an ad for Squarespace.

Martin Scorsese teams up with his daughter Francesca Scorsese for this four minute-long clip, which is only a teaser for Squarespace's upcoming Super Bowl ad. In the video, Martin is working on a short film and struggling to understand the main character: a website. Luckily, Francesca has a solution at the ready. To get inside the mind of a website, one should just build a website.

Technical difficulties ensue, as Francesca tries to walk her father through creating a website. What will his domain name be? What fonts will he use? And does he even know what a URL is? You'll find all this and more — Rants about aliens! Martin using modern-day slang! Francesca regretting her life choices! — in the teaser. Then tune into the Super Bowl to see the Scorseses' final product.

In the words of Martin Scorsese, we're sure it will "slap."

Sexy Valentine's Day gifts guaranteed to spice things up

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 14:24

It's time to wake up and accept the fact that Valentine's Day is the sex holiday. Sometimes spicing things up in the bedroom is the most romantic thing you can do.

We've scoured the internet to find the sexiest gifts on the market. Whether your boo is into BDSM, toys, or is just one of those people who gets turned on by food, there's bound to be a gift option that satisfies their nether regions and their heart.

NSFW warning: Before you scroll any further, we'd suggest making sure your screen isn't visible to bosses, children, or conservative family members. However, if you're in public with just randos behind you, it's your call as to whether you want to be that person shopping for vibrators in Starbucks.

We apologize in advance for using the word "penetration" so many times. No matter how sex-positive you are, that word sucks.

'Starfield' and 3 other Xbox exclusives may come to PS5

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 14:19

The console wars may officially be over.

OK, that's a little dramatic, but it sounds like Xbox is gearing up to make a major shift in the gaming space. According to separate reports from Giant Bomb, The Verge, GameFile, and XboxEra released over the past few weeks, several high-profile Xbox (and PC) exclusive titles might eventually come to PlayStation 5 and/or Nintendo Switch. The main titles in question are the already-released Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves, as well as the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

SEE ALSO: Xbox, Spotify leaders blast Apple for App Store changes. Here’s why.

Of course, Microsoft hasn't confirmed any of this, and release dates for the PS5 and Switch (in Hi-Fi Rush's case only) versions of these games are unknown. However, it seems that this strategy might keep some games Xbox-exclusive on at least a temporary basis. The Verge claims that Indiana Jones' period of Xbox exclusivity might be relatively brief, lasting only months instead of a year or more.

The best evidence we have of this reported shift in exclusivity is some data-mined in-game outfits for Hi-Fi Rush that seem awfully close to PlayStation and Nintendo branding.

That said, where there's smoke, there's usually fire. Plus, these are reports from multiple very credible sources. This possible shift feels like a natural evolution of Microsoft's strategy over the past several years, which has seemed to place more emphasis on acquiring big-name IP and driving Game Pass subscriptions than raw game and console sales numbers.

In other words, it seems like Microsoft would rather get its properties into as many people's hands as possible than adhere to previously established exclusivity standards.

Of course, that would naturally devalue the Xbox consoles themselves. It will be fascinating to see if this plays out as reported and how it affects Microsoft's hardware business going forward.

Apple Vision Pro: The $3,500 headset was dropped on purpose. Did it survive?

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 14:17

The metal-and-glass Apple Vision Pro is nearly $4,000, so for all that money, it better be solid enough to withstand a few bumps and a couple of drops, right?

Tech YouTuber AppleTrack, also known as Sam Kohl, tested the Vision Pro's durability with a few sudden shocks. Did it remain intact? For the most part.

The Vision Pro features a light seal that blocks light from seeping through, allowing for total immersion into the headset. However, according to Kohl, if you grab the Vision Pro by holding the light seal, you risk dropping the headset because its magnetic attachment isn't strong enough.

If that happens, would it survive the fall? Kohl dropped the Vision Pro from a height of about six feet. Despite the impact, the headset didn't crack. A few scuffs, sure, but no notable fractures. Even the aluminum and downward-facing cameras remained intact.

R.I.P to the Vision Pro's left speaker, though, because it didn't withstand the drop.

With the headset on, Kohl also walked into walls and jambs, testing to see whether the Vision Pro can handle clumsy stumbles into obstacles. Other than a scrape or two, the Vision Pro remained fine.

Extreme drop test

Even after standing on top of a couch, giving more height to the Vision Pro drop test, the headset's glass front didn't crack. Mind you, this is after the Vision Pro had been bump-and-drop tested several times already.

It wasn't until Kohl launched a second drop test from his couch, this time putting his arms up to increase the height of the drop, that the Vision Pro's front finally shattered. Interestingly, Kohl said he was able to peel off this cracked glass layer, exposing a perfectly polished plastic front.

And to Kohl's surprise, the sensors and the cameras were left unscathed. Plus, the Vision Pro continued to work just fine. Save for the broken left speaker, the Vision Pro functioned without any issues.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is $100 off and just $10 away from its lowest ever price

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 11:30

Save $100: The 41mm Apple Watch Series 9 with GPS is just $299 at Amazon and Walmart as of Feb. 5. This smartwatch is $399 at full price, netting you a 25% discount.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and the seasonally appropriate pink Apple Watch knows it.

We've seen this watch hovering around $309 for nearly the past week, but as of Feb. 5, it's finally dipped (just) below $300. If you're okay with the pink colorway, you can grab the 41mm Apple Watch Series 9 with GPS for just $299 at Amazon and Walmart. This isn't this watch's lowest price ever — that honor belongs to the $289 deal it hit in December — but it's still rare for the watch to get this 25% markdown.

SEE ALSO: Apple Vision Pro teardown: What's inside the $3,500 headset

The Apple Watch Series 9 had a rocky start to the year. As the result of a patent dispute with a medical tech company, Apple removed the blood oxygen sensor from its watches. This wasn't a new sensor — along with the heart rate monitor it made up some of the core health features of previous watch generations — but it is a knock to this watch's overall fitness capabilities.

Still, for just $299, you will get a host of features that could make this watch well worth its discounted price. There's Double Tap, which was introduced for the Series 9 and allows you to navigate your watch by simply tapping your thumb and forefinger together, instead of actually touching the watch. There's the 2,000-nit display that makes this watch much more readable in the sunlight (which was one of Mashable Senior Editor Stan Schroeder's favorite features of the smartwatch).

At full price, this watch isn't a surefire upgrade for us, but for just $299, it's much easier to make the case. And if you're not too big on fitness features in the first place, it's definitely worth a look — or you can check out the even more basic Apple Watch SE, which is on sale for $189 at the time of writing.

Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' already has everybody talking

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 11:14

At the 2024 Grammys on Sunday night, Taylor Swift surprised fans by announcing her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, while accepting Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, her first of two awards — including the night's final prize, Album of the Year. The new album title — The Tortured Poets Department — is four words long, giving Swifties and casual listeners alike so much to talk about.

Swift darted off stage and uploaded the moody black and white album cover to Instagram with a sneak peek of a verse of poetry that ends with, "All's fair in love and poetry ... Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department." Of course, the speculation and jokes rolled in on X / Twitter.

Immediately, fans started claiming the album as being for the "English and classics girlies," BookTok, "tote bag carrying, bookstore wandering, literature-loving girls," and those who identify with the dark academia aesthetic.

Others poked fun at the seemingly Tumblr-inspired title album cover. One X user captioned a Tumblr-era doodle with, "Her mood board when naming the album." Another said, "That one girl in high school photography classes that would post her homework on Tumblr with 30 Seconds to Mars lyrics."

Yet the dramatic, black-and-white cover and verbose title were also met with excitement. One fan exclaimed, "The Tortured Poets Department? YES. MILLENNIAL CRINGE IS THE MOMENT. 2008 TUMBLR CORE. IT’S GIVING 274 PHOTOS IN THE FACEBOOK ALBUM. MOVE OVER GEN Z, WE ARE BACK."

Some even started to theorize about The Tortured Poets Department because if there's one thing Swifties (and the internet) love to do it's speculate.

If Swift is the chairman, the internet cast Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, Girls' Hannah Horvath, Little Women's Jo March, The Tumblr Teens, and, of course, Dead Poets Society as her cohorts.

With just four words, a photo, and a verse, the speculation is underway. Fans clocked that the title might be a reference to Swift's ex-boyfriend actor Joe Alwyn. In an interview with Paul Mescal, the pair revealed that they are in a group chat with Andrew Scott titled, "The Tortured Man Club."
